  1. I can see why you used to be a CPA. Dementia is a bitch.
  2. Accurate title is accurate.
  3. It was a serious question. You told other people it would work. I was hoping you'd realize through this comparison why that doesn't make sense. I actually don't hate tariffs as a rule. Tariffs can help us create certain domestic industries that we have lost or are losing (chip manufacturing, solar panel manufacturing, ship building, etc). But these tariffs on goods like lumber from Canada are just going to raise prices. There is no real economic windfall or development to be gained. Supply chains went through hell during Covid. Expect more of the same if these go into effect.
  4. Have you considered just not believing in tariffs? Maybe that way they will not do anything and you don't have to worry about it.
  5. What, we're going to make more trees? Tariffs related to specialized, critical industries that we need to develop domestically make a bit of sense (e.g., semi-conductor manufacturing). Tariffs on fucking lumber are fucking stupid.
  6. Bullshit. No one is negotiating shit. Either they go into effect and we all suffer or they don't go into effect because someone is convinced this is an idiotic, self-destructive idea. Pretending otherwise is fucking stupid.
  7. It is good to suck for everyone. Nothing good will come of it.
  8. No. Adler is very much the opposite of that guy. https://www.transparencyusa.org/tx/contributor/jim-s-adler
  9. Obviously the solution to that is to cause another recession as soon as possible! But also, like, we were just in a recession not too long ago? Why didn't the dollar collapse then? Anyway, it will be really funny when your parade of horribles come true because of the person and policies you voted for. Such self-ownage is truly impressive.
  10. 1. I'd argue that the difference between 1 week and the perhaps 12 days is completely irrelevant. The rhetorical points stands: there was very little time given to consider this offer (or whatever you want to call it). 2. The tweet literally used quotes around the term buyout. The whole point of that is to suggest that it isn't really a buyout. Trying to argue that makes the tweet wrong is fucking asinine. 3. What part of the tweet is wrong about the impact on the ATC staffing at the time of the crash? I don't see any specific reference in the tweet. More critically, I don't think you have any knowledge of what affect it had on staffing, so I'm unclear why you believe you're in a position to judge. Here is her statement again for reference: "I represent LaGuardia Airport as well as workers for JFK. Trump gutted the Aviation Safety committee last week. Air traffic controllers - already understaffed - got Trump’s “buyout” this week with a 1 week ultimatum to decide. It’s not DEI - it’s him. And Elon too." In short, I think you're talking out your ass.
  11. The general trend for PI firms has been to increase the contingent fee. We previously had 3 tier contracts with 1 rate for pre-trial, 1 rate for trial, and 1 rate if it goes on appeal. But, the reality is that it was often confusing for the client, and frankly a poor indicator of how much work had to go into the case. We've moved to a single rate for our cases. That said it is possible some of the firms that focus on volume car crash work still have lower rates. But I don't know of anyone going under 1/3rd contingency on a normal basis. I have had cases that resolve relatively quickly and recommended reducing the fee after the fact, but that is a voluntary reduction based upon the actual work and not guaranteed upfront.
  12. Here is an archived version of that link: https://web.archive.org/web/20240204125304/https://www.faa.gov/pwdp I'm going to assume that the blind and intellectual disabled wouldn't have necessarily been selected for the role of an air traffic controller, but I'm sure there are things that they could assist with in connection with air traffic control. It seems like people with paralysis, missing extremities, and dwarfism could still fulfill the role of an air traffic controller assuming they are otherwise qualified.
  13. There are a lot of things we should let die, I agree.
  14. Sounds like some want to live in blissful ignorance of the negative consequences of the world they voted for. I'm all for ignoring that wish.

@DixonHur do you agree that the law requires you to have a license to drive? If the law wouldn't give you a license because of your sexual orientation, would your response be (a) frustration and anger and advocating that the law should change or (b) not caring because you believe the law is stupid. And if (b) would you feel the same way if you were jailed for driving without a license? That's what you're arguing Dixon. It is really stupid stuff.

Good god, what opinion do you think you're expressing? Read my posts. Right now, your opinion appears to be that because you don't like the law, it doesn't matter or affect anyone. That is a stupid opinion. If otherwise, you're going to need to clarify. Your shit doesn't make sense. Whether you realize it or not, you also appear to be expressing the idea that you don't care that gays may not get the benefits of legally recognized marriage because those benefits didn't always exist and were only created to protect certain people (i.e., not gays).

    LBGTQ

That's rich. You're the one conflating unlike things. This isn't about your belief about how government should work. We are criticizing your dismissal of a very real issue that very really affects a lot of people and prejudices their ability to exist in society as equals. That we may all want to live in a world where things were different is completely irrelevant to the question of how the current world--including its "antiquated" laws and rules--operates. You have some fucking perspective and realize that you're whistling past the graveyard of rights that are being taken away from people RIGHT FUCKING NOW. So yeah, you're going to get some heat, deservedly so, because you have no fucking perspective yourself. Who the fuck cares that people couldn't file their taxes jointly 100 years ago? You can today if the government recognizes you as being married. If you don't believe it would be right to exclude LBGTQ people from that benefit then I don't understand what point you think you're making. See my previous post on sovereign citizenship bullshit. That's what you sound like right now. The rules apply to you and other people no matter what you think of the rules or how the world should operate.

    LBGTQ

What? That's sovereign citizen talk. That's like saying I don't think it should be illegal to steal so I'm going to ignore the law and steal shit. I can do it. But I'm not going to be free from the consequences when I get arrested and thrown in jail. Similarly, I can believe the government shouldn't have any say in marriage, but that isn't going to help me get tax benefits or any other benefits provided by the law to married couples.

    LBGTQ

Government recognition of marriage significantly impacts one's life regardless of personal beliefs. An obvious example of that is the ability to file jointly on a tax return and the tax benefits that provides, but other examples include the recognition of the rights of both parents of an adopted child. Your belief isn't being attacked. Your dismissal of the importance of government recognition is. It doesn't impact you because the government will readily recognize your union. It didn't always do so for others and will likely revert to those old ways.
  20. That makes sense. Just a terrible tragedy.

    LBGTQ

Essentially the same basis as it affirmed abortion. The death of Roe v. Wade has already ended a number of previously recognized rights. It'll just take time for the law to catch up.
  22. Now we know what to blame. But seriously, I've hated every time I've flown into DCA and now I'll hate it even more. I already deal with a healthy fear of flying despite doing it a lot. This is just more nightmare fuel for the fire. We really need to overhaul our air traffic safety. Too many close calls recently and it appears to be getting worse. It sucks that anyone died, but it especially sucks that it was plane full of talented kids. RIP to all.
  23. Why is Russian State media covering this or interviewing people? That seems odd to me.
