  1. Yep, on 4th and 1, he needs to hold the block on the 1st man longer to ensure the 1-yd gain. Blocking seems to be his kryptonite and that could hurt his NFL prospects. TEs have to block; not every team will use the TE like a Kelce/Kittle.
  2. Worthy competes in traffic. Mitchell will make an effort, but only if it's uncontested. He could learn a lot from X.
  3. If we scored on 1st and Goal from the 1 yard line against OU, we wouldn't be needing a bunch of teams to lose. Always, always, ALWAYS handle your own business and never leave it in the hands of external forces. We failed to do that and here we are.
  4. That's a generous line. But, perhaps Ewers' absence will force us to run the ball more. I could see Baxter and Brooks feasting, even if BYU knows it's coming. Murphy is good enough they can't totally sell out on the run, but Sark will probably keep the play-calling "less exotic" - which could work in our favor.
  5. Peyton and Eli are obviously athletic enough to be big time QBs, but they aren't otherworldly. What they are is phenomenal football quarterbacks, and that comes from the mental side, understanding the game to an insanely deep level, etc. Cooper Manning, Arch's dad, was the best athlete of the 3 - so Arch isn't lacking the genetics. And with Archie for a grandfather, and Peyton and Eli for uncles, you can damn sure bet he knows how to play QB. I have some ties to people in LA who really know football and they said his last name adds a star, so I'm not suggesting he's Football Jesus - but you can bet he won't suck.
  6. Well ... I did say I'm not dogging Ewers in the slightest. He has one of the best arms in the game. He throws one of the most catchable balls out there; it's Joe Burrow-esque. His arm talent alone is what makes him a 9/10 QB. What's keeping him from being a 10/10 Heisman shoe-in is his inability to process information quickly enough. If he could, he'd be throwing to wide open WRs too.
  7. Ewers has a golden arm, but he's not intelligent enough to make the most of a Sark offense. He cannot process information quickly enough, plain and simple. He can hit the guy the play was schemed for, and if that guy isn't open, he can check down. But he has no idea who's going to be open based on a pre-snap read or reading the defense at the snap. He takes the snap, checks the primary and then checks down. Teams have begun to scheme the defense to take away his initial read and it shows. His success is coming from having some absolute weapons at WR and a great arm. Mac Jones could maximize a Sark offense, which is why it seemed like he was always throwing to a wide open WR vs. having to force throws into tight coverage.
  8. Do they think Murphy is capable of leading a quick drive into FG range to win it with a FG (if UH gets a TD + 2)? Or even that he can win it in OT?
  9. UH time killing TD drive and a 2pt conversion. That's about how this game feels.
  10. Have we thrown a slant to X or AD all game?
  11. RT absolutely close lining the rusher for a good 3-4 seconds and no flag. Unreal.
  12. What in the fuck is going on here? Houston is kicking our asses and simultaneously beating themselves in the process. Can we get pressure on the QB? They can't run the ball, but we can't stop the pass when we KNOW they're passing it.
  13. I've long thought Ewers is "slow" to process information. He can make any throw on the field (long ball is a little iffy) if the play is schemed up to go to a specific receiver. He just can't make anything other than a primary read and then a check down. No pre-snap read, nothing. Just primary, check down, dance around. He doesn't come across as very smart and it shows in his play.
  14. Clark probably put up more points in the football stadium than the football team has.
  15. Relax. You sound emotional. I'm not referring to YOU specifically, but rather the pervasive "we'll beat them in the rematch" mentality - as if it's a given we'll be there. We have to play Houston next in 2 weeks. There is nothing except Houston until that game has been played. Nothing. BYU, Kansas State, TCU, Iowa State, and Texas Tech do not exist until the week of THAT game. Focusing on the task that is immediately in front of you and nothing else is the way. Play THIS game. Execute THIS play. Execute THIS detail of THIS play. That's what Oklahoma did today and what we failed to do, and it cost us the game. It's what separates the greats from the "pretty goods" ... and not just in football.
  16. The theme of this thread is the reason we got beat today. Acting like it's just a given that we make the Big 12 CG ... Is it likely? Maybe. But the games have to be played. This game had to be played and look what happened.
  17. We have the lead with 1:17 on the clock and I don't like it.
  18. Not as good range and gives them the ball back with plenty of time.
  19. Play for the last play of the game, for sure.
  20. Need a 1st down here, even if playing for the FG.
  21. Need one of those long, run-it-down-their-throats drives like we had against Alabama. Playing for OT may be our best bet. Score with little time left and hold on for dear life.
  22. This stop has to be quick. If they have a long time-eating drive and we have to do the same to score, they'll have the ball last.
