  1. Yep, the irony was not lost on that one. Valence Effect (overestimation of positive outcomes and underestimation of negative ones), one could argue, is tied to emotion.
  2. What is it for the 2nd half?
  3. Valence Effect on full display in this thread. I'm a UT alumnus. Born and raised Texan. Been rooting for UT since I was knee high to a grasshopper. Of course I want us to get in the CFP. Of course I think if we win out, we have a strong case to be in it. But ... Our big win against Alabama was a long time ago. Both teams look far different today. Alabama looks much better and I'd argue we look worse. We haven't been dominant in many games. We've scratched out wins vs. burying teams...unranked teams. We have a lot of injuries to key players (Brooks, Ewers, Worthy, Sanders, etc.). If FSU is going to suffer in the rankings due to not having Travis, then the same could be applied to us. I could easily see some "eye test" argument made in selecting another 1-loss conference champion over Texas (Oregon or Alabama; probably not FSU if they lose to UF and beat Louisville). Oregon is already ranked ahead of us, with the same record and with the same information the committee will have should Oregon and Texas both win out (both teams have already had their losses and their wins...except Oregon will likely have a big win over #4 Washington to bolster their argument). Alabama will have lost to us - "but that was early in the season and they still hadn't figured out what to do with Milroe. Since then, Texas has gotten worse and Alabama has only gotten better. Plus, they just knocked off the 2x defending champions Georgia." Ya'll like to talk about recency...well, Alabama will have just knocked off Georgia. And, for that matter, Georgia will have FINALLY LOST A GAME "to a really, really good Alabama squad." Texas has been in the wilderness for awhile and even while we sucked, we still acted like we owned college football. We're not exactly everybody's favorite right now and we're not going to get favors thrown our way just because "we're Texas." String together a few 10+ win seasons, legitimately be "we're baaaaack", and that'll likely change. But that hasn't happened yet. All that said, FSU losing is our best chance. Oregon/Washington will take care of one of those two and Ohio State/Michigan will take care of one of those. That's 2 spots. FSU loss will bump us up the 3rd spot to #4. Hate that Travis got hurt and definitely wouldn't wish for it to happen like this, but it did, so let's hope it pays off.
  4. I don't think there's a chance in hell the SEC champion gets left out of the CFP. Alabama or Georgia will be in, possibly both if Alabama beats UGA in a close game.
  5. Yeah, I'm aware that we're in the CFP system now vs. the BCS of the past. Thanks for the heads up. That example was one of mental gymnastics to justify their intended action, which is relevant no matter the system.
  6. Maybe so and I hope for our sake, you're right. Hopefully it's all irrelevant hypotheticals anyway. We definitely have to beat Tech next week and then win the CCG before any of it matters. First things first.
  7. How did they make the argument that Alabama should be in the 2012 NCG when they didn't even make it to their CONFERENCE championship game? People make up all kinds of stuff to justify doing what they want to do. "Eye test", etc. "Texas has squeaked by a few unranked teams and their loss is to mid-ranked OU. Georgia's only loss is to the conference champion and juggernaut, Alabama. Georgia is clearly the better team." The above might be absolutely true (I think UGA is better than Texas, especially with all the injuries), but it shouldn't matter. You should have to win the games and your conference, period. But "shouldn't matter" doesn't mean it won't matter. Let's say Oregon beats Washington, Alabama beats Georgia, and we win out. We beat Alabama, but do you think if Texas and Alabama are both 1-loss conference champs, Alabama would be the one left out because we beat them head-to-head?
  8. I certainly hope so. I'm not making the argument. I'm simply saying others have made the case that a 1-loss non-conference champion, 2 x repeat national champion UGA would get in over one of the 1-loss conference champs - with Texas being that team since UW/Oregon and Michigan/Ohio State are all currently ranked ahead of us. I don't agree with it and think it would be pretty heinous, but weirder things have happened. (Remember when Alabama didn't even make it to their conference championship game at all and still went to the Natty game in 2012? Yeah, they won it 21-0, but they never should have gotten the chance.)
  9. I should have quoted the post to which I was referring. It assumed an FSU loss, since Travis is out and they have Florida and Louisville left, making a loss likely.
  10. Got anything to add other than your faux aggressive, message board-tough tone? But yeah, you're right. OU scored with 15 seconds left. The record has been corrected to be technically accurate. All good now?
  11. A lot of people seem to think if Alabama beats UGA in the SECCG, then UGA will still be in the CFP as a 1-loss non-conference champ, blocking out Texas (assuming we win out). - Big 10 champ (Michigan or Ohio State) - Pac-12 champ (Washington or Oregon) - SEC champ (Alabama) + UGA It would be bullshit, but I could see it happening. Of course, once again, don't lose to OU on the last play of the game and it's a non-issue.
  12. ESPN has updated the conference championship games' participants since last night and the Big 12 game is still TBD vs. TBD. There must be some scenario where we lose to TTU and don't get in.
  13. Now we have to avoid the "we're already in the Big 12 CG" letdown game vs. Tech.
  14. Fake kneel, pop pass. TD.
  15. I want a TD. Because fuck ISU.
  16. Baxter has been getting a lot of criticism the last few games, but he's mainly been running the ball late in the game when everyone knows we're running. He's over 100 tonight on 15 carries because he's gotten the ball in a mix of situations.
  17. Y'all didn't think 23-9 in the 4th QTR was comfortable, did you?
  18. 4th QTR and Iowa State has ZERO penalty yards. ZERO.
  19. We have a WR named Whittington? Who knew?
  20. Baxter. CAR YDS AVG TD LONG 8 69 8.6 0 21 Sark about to throw 15 passes in a row.
  21. Baxter has 7.2 YPC in the first half. Just an FYI.
  22. Whitt never came down in bounds. Bullshit call and forced us to burn a TO.
  23. "Quinn is holding the ball too long" No shit. They're dropping 8 into coverage and he can't read a defense to save his life. If his pre-snap target isn't wide fucking open, he has no clue who IS going to be open. The key to beating us is to play 3 high safeties and only rush 3, forcing Quinn Ewers use his brain.
  24. Safeties gonna cheat up on that slant and get burned deep. Watch.
  25. Yup. ISU has a history of knocking off top 10 teams. Getting jobbed and losing to them at home wouldn't draw much scrutiny.
