  1. Kinda crazy that the Cubs have two of the top 3 ERA leaders in the NL (Steele slipped to #3 since your post), and are nonetheless in 4th place in their division. And that's in the shitty NL Central, for chrissakes. And when was the last time you saw a division that had only one team with a positive run differential . . . and that team was in 4th place? I'm not sure if that says more about the ineptitude of the NL Central or the Jekyll-and-Hyde nature of the Cubs. Maybe both.
  2. I tried broiling the japs once, and it honestly didn't make a huge difference to me. Maybe I needed to broil them longer than I did. If you can't get Tacodeli salsa dona but live near a Trader Joe's, TJ's has a jarred Jalapeno sauce that is similar and good, but this homemade version beats it, IMO.
  3. I picked up a jalapeno sauce (it's not really a salsa) recipe off Surly a few years ago. I can't recall offhand which poster shared it, but whoever it was I tip my hat to him. I've made it a bunch of times. It's good and incredibly easy. 6 jalapenos (I sometimes substitute a habanero for one of the japs to kick up the heat, but I like it spicy)3 cloves garlic1/4 cup olive oilHandful of cilantro1 tsp kosher salt (original recipe called for a half teaspoon)Boil peppers and peeled garlic for 20 minutesThen take and put them in ice water to cool off.Once cool, cut stems off peppers and put them, garlic cloves, oil , cilantro (stems and leaves), and salt in blender.Liquefy. Profit
  4. Saw Pete play the Folk Music Center in Claremont, CA this past weekend. Terrific show. He did "A Million Miles Away" and told a story about how he and his band had snuck into a recording studio the first time it was recorded. He even covered a Burt Bacharach tune as well as a John Coltrane (!) song -- PC was playing the piano with a bassist accompanying him on those two.
  5. The article speculates that it will be body-on-frame, and I agree with Anton Chigurh that it will almost certainly be on the -F platform. We'll know soon enough.
  6. I used to see Anchor Steam in bars and restaurants a lot more than I do now. Once upon a time many years ago, it was one of the few "craft" beers I would see on a regular basis. But it got overtaken by the craft brewing revolution that it helped spark. I haven't had an AS in either bottle or draft form in a long time.
  7. Yeah, he was pretty much the antithesis of a hippie in 1941, which came out the same year as Hair.

  10. Quoted for truth. P.S.: And 786 Degrees is just a couple blocks down from a liquor store (Mission Liquor) with a really good selection of bourbon, scotch, tequila, wine, beer, etc., etc.
  11. In the words of the immortal Joe Schultz: Shitfuck.
  12. It's win or go home. Can't wait for him to work out the kinks, Pierce.
  13. Yep. Dude's a DH who's hitting below the Mendoza line (a sentence that has maybe never been written before). He needs to do anything and everything in his power to get on base any way he can.
  14. Farmer 84 never saw a bigger choke. Farmer 84 must not have witnessed this game.
  15. I did not realize Jack Lee had written this song. Thanks for dropping this knowledge on me.
  16. This news probably deserves its own thread, IMO, but I'll put it here for now. RIP Jack Lee. And fuck cancer. https://pitchfork.com/news/the-nerves-jack-lee-who-penned-hanging-on-the-telephone-dies-at-71/
  17. Ran across this video of a German lass covering Led Zeppelin's "Rain Song," and I dig it. She's got a nice voice.
  18. Looking forward to this, but the voice/accent Leo is using is going to bug the shit out of me.
  19. If that post is legit . . . it's yet another example of how pervasive and twisted aggy's envy of Texas is -- willing acceptance of an aggy loss in a regional championship game (with the accompanying loss of any shot of making it to the CWS) if it will prevent Texas from winning an award that aggy won't come within miles of sniffing.
