Republicans voting for Democrats this cycle is like if some aggy voted for Texas to save football because the maggy diehards started fucking sheep on the field and ruined the traditional weird routines. They all just want to get back to their version of normal and get the freaks out of the picture even if they have to hold their noses and vote for us.

My folks voted for Trump in 2016. In the 70s, my dad bought and wore a button that said “Leave Nixon Alone!” They were unwilling to vote for any Dem other than Biden in 2020. Now they’re suddenly Yellow Dog Democrats. January 6 shook the scales from their eyes, and they slowly realized left wing policies are actually kind of good for people and maybe assault rifles and being judgy dicks to nice people just because they make different life choices aren’t real Christian values.

Ironically enough, Trump saved my parents from Republicanism.

It was covid that changed my parents. My mom was going through chemotherapy at the time and was deadly serious about staying healthy and safe. My parents took it extremely seriously and lockdown is what caused them both to fully retire. With time and nothing to do and a topic they deeply cared about, they watched Trump's daily briefings and it was their first time ever seeing a politician directly in action. They were shocked at how the other republicans would rally around Trump's obvious bullshit, too. It basically shocked them into leaving the party. It was republicans who drove my parents away, nothing else.

Same here. My mom has been posting quotes from DNC speakers the last few nights on FB and is more fired up about this election than any I can remember. Growing up, they always voted Republican. Her parents had a signed portrait of Ronald Reagan on their wall until the day they died. And yet here we are.

My dad legitimately had a picture of Regan hanging in his office for years and years and years when I was growing up.

Same here. My folks were willing to vote for Biden (the first Democrat either of them voted for since my mom cast a protest ballot for Ann Richards). But they are excited to vote for Kamala and Walz.

Ya they voted for Biden just to keep Trump out, but it was perfunctory. I never thought I'd see my parents watch a national convention period, democratic or republican. They set aside all 4 nights to watch and have been sending me clips all week of the parts they're rewatching.

It's having a knock-on snowball effect too, because now they know the names of a lot of other democrats suddenly, people they'd never heard of before.

Kinda feel like this is the first time in my entire life that entire generations of people are willing to give the democrats an honest, real look at their platform. As in, more than just the republican narrative about democrats being "socialists marxist radical leftists demons"

Don’t disagree. But one of the main reasons he got picked was he doesn’t have presidential ambitions. Though they’d probably make the best presidents

That he seems like a real, honest, normal dude is amazing. That's precisely why he doesn't want the job, and precisely why I'd want him to take office one day. He seems like he cuts through the bullshit effortlessly in a way everyone understands.

The rivalry series will include up to 19 sports, where the results will determine the winner of the annual Lone Star Showdown rivalry series trophy. 7. My dad and I finished TNG sunday. As always, All Good Things is a perfect ending and one of the best episodes in all of Trek. We've timed this perfectly: my dad is aware of the "Grow the beard" trope, and I've been telling him that once TNG ends, DS9 gets *really* good. Well, we've been ping-ponging between episodes of DS9 and TNG, and it just so happens that next weekend when we see our next DS9 episode, Sisko grows his beard, haha. Perfect timing, just as TNG ends on a high note, DS9 starts to kick into high gear.

Man this franchise is so good when you see it in the intended airing order.
