  1. IMPORTANT PSA for Travis County voters. On May 4th, you will be able to vote for the assholes who control the Travis County Appraisal District. Here's your chance to be heard. Honest question, is TravisCAD the only CAD where we can vote for the BoD? https://www.austinmonitor.com/stories/2024/04/democrats-vs-republicans-first-election-coming-for-travis-county-appraisal-district-board/ Even though their party affiliations will not be on the ballot, three Democrats, three Republicans and a Libertarian are running for three seats on the Travis Central Appraisal District Board of Directors. That election on May 4 will be the first such election since passage of a law requiring that three of those directors be elected. A new state law dictates that at least two of the three elected members of the TCAD Board of Directors agree on all Appraisal Review Board (ARB) appointments. The Travis County Democratic Party has endorsed the three Democrats in the race: Jett Hanna, Shenghao “Daniel” Wang and Dick Lavine – in Places 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Two well-known Republicans – Travis County Republican Party Chair Matt Mackowiak and former Austin City Council Member Don Zimmerman – and a lesser-known candidate, Bill May, are also vying for the three seats. In addition, software engineer Jonathan Craig Patschke, who is listed online as the treasurer of the Travis County Libertarian Party, is running against Wang and Mackowiak for Place 2.
  2. The snake most definitely swallowed the moray. That species preys on eels. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/transcoded/c/c7/Sea_Snake_eating_Moray_Eel%2C_Fiji_(Laticauda_colubrina_vs._Gymnothorax_sp.).webm/Sea_Snake_eating_Moray_Eel%2C_Fiji_(Laticauda_colubrina_vs._Gymnothorax_sp.).webm.480p.vp9.webm
  3. O&G billionaires: is the ROI on all this shit less than the 100s of millions I'm making doing the bare minimum status quo? Yes? Then fuck that shit. You want our state leaders to build the best grid for Texans? Not in a million years. Our state leaders will approve to build what the O&G assholes, who own them, tell them to build. What ever is best for their wallets is best for our leaders and by default, Texans.
  4. Yep, everybody needs to stay the fuck away from Austin, that includes moving to and visiting. Please stay in your suburbs and vacation in Houston or Dallas.
  5. The rural parts of Texas will be "Hell yeah, we don't want no part of those major cities!" And when they find out how much of the population and businesses in those major cities pay for shit the rural counties desperately rely on, "Hey, I didn't mean that. Can you please come back? We need your socialist money."
  6. Exactly. But my Appraised and Net Appraised are pretty much even now. Will be interesting what happens next year.
  7. Which is why no one wants the reactor in their backyard or downwind from it. Mother nature don't give a shit about about redundancy plans. The chase for profits by corporate leaders and greedy billionaires will insure that cost is minimize, processes and safety be damned. Hi, Boeing.
  8. I'm all for nuclear energy. The problem will be finding people who want it in their city/county.
  9. How many people are surprised that the Deion show is a shitshow?
  10. Damn. Saw it for the 2nd time and it's even better. This may be the best movie I've ever watched. It's damned near perfect. I was sad the movie ended the first time, I'm more sad this time. On 2nd viewing and with better understanding of Vil's vision for Paul and Lisan Al Gaib, Chani's character becomes much more relatable and hits the feels. Anyone bitching about her pouty role better also be bitching about Rabban's character which was basically consisted of pissed off yelling. I eagerly await Vil's Holy War conclusion.
  11. Then he's definitely not winning any tournaments. This year will be 10 years since his last major win.
  12. I'm too lazy to research but I think most of the rumors of defection have come true. I don't doubt that the ones which didn't come true were players actually considering the jump but reneged for whatever reasons. After Rahm left, Rory definitely changed his tune on LIV, taking a much softer stance. I think he wants the perverse sum of money from LIV thinking/hoping there will be a merger in the future and all will be forgiven. If someone were dangling $850M in front of me for simply entertaining people by "competing" in golf, I'd sure the fuck sign. But I would know that I sold out and would be ostracized and be labeled a dick by most of my peers and fans.
  13. If you live in Austin, you know the story of this fuckhead. He's held a community hostage for years. He's finally getting "help". How many other dipshits like him are there terrorizing Austin? https://www.fox7austin.com/news/rami-zawaideh-next-steps-austin-texas A homeless man who has terrorized a neighborhood in South Austin for years is finally getting help. Neighbors are relieved and are hoping they can now enjoy some peace and quiet. It’s been almost two years of what neighbors call "hell." Here's What a New Roof Should Cost You In North CarolinaHomeBuddy| Sponsored Learn More "There is a guy with an ax just screaming violent profane and chopping on trees," Westgate resident James Murff said. "Always walking around with a chainsaw and then after a week he had a pole saw," Westgate resident JJ Pepper said. Residents in the Westgate and Cherry Creek neighborhoods know the man by name, Rami Zawaideh. Man accused of carrying chainsaw, chopping down trees in Greenbelt Court documents show the man has been arrested multiple times for criminal trespassing. Neighbors said they’re concerned for their safety and want something done. He was first arrested in Travis County in July 2022 for criminal trespassing. The county attorney declined to prosecute. Zawaideh was arrested again in August, twice in September, and again in October 2022, but he was quickly back in the greenbelt threatening residents, chopping down trees, making sculptures, and screaming early in the morning. "There's only so much we can do. We can arrest them. We can file the charges and after that, that's up to the court," Austin Police Sgt. William Beck said. Residents said they thought charges were going to stick when Zawaideh took a sledgehammer to city property in January 2023. "This level of escalation with the boulders is just really worrisome," Cherry Creek resident Frankie Hefley said. Zawaideh was arrested and charged with felony criminal mischief, but the district attorney dropped the charges. Residents continued to push to get help for Zawaideh. "Mental health is obviously an issue, and we just don’t know when he’s going to snap and take it to another level," Hefley said. "This person needs to be removed and rehabilitated, so they can be put back into society, because they’re just unwell," Pepper said. Zawaideh’s mother agreed. She drove from New York to Austin and spoke with FOX 7 last week. She said she had been in town for about a month because she was planning on taking Zawaideh back home with her. She said she was told city officials had come up with a plan for Zawaideh and that he would be picked up, not jailed, but taken to a hospital, evaluated, stabilized, and he’d then be on his way to New York. Time passed though, and Zawaideh was still out in the greenbelt terrorizing a new neighbor. Residents hope for more action on homeless man with chainsaw Residents in the Westgate and Stassney Lane area have been reporting sightings of a homeless man chopping down trees with a chainsaw in a nearby greenbelt. "He's very profane, he's beginning to target me and my little dog, talking about murder, calling me obscene names," Westgate resident Debbie Horne said. She said she called 911 more than 30 times but, "I just don’t have any help." Just hours after FOX 7 contacted council member Ryan Alter’s office, the district attorney’s office, county attorney’s office, sheriff’s office, and the Austin Police Department, Zawaideh was picked up and taken to a hospital. City officials said it was a voluntary commitment. Zawaideh’s mother said an order of protective custody would be filed. She said she hasn’t been able to get in contact with her son since he’s been picked up but hopes he will call soon and agree to head north with her. A city representative couldn’t tell FOX 7 how long Zawaideh would be receiving treatment in Austin.
  14. My bad. I should've read the PGA thread before posting.
  15. How it started. how it's going So we can expect Rory to join LIV in 3 months. His 180 on LIV stance especially as it relates to Ryder Cup is interesting. Maybe it all makes sense because he's going to bail. If $850M number is true, no one can blame him. Fuck him, but good for him.
  16. That doesn't phase me one bit. Trump got 10 fucking million more votes in 2020 than in 2016. 10 fucking million people who didn't vote for Trump in 2016 saw the complete bullshit that was his presidency and thought, "Gee golly, I'm mad that I didn't vote for him last time but I want 4 more years of chaos, pettiness, lying, and racism." That broke me for the future of this country.
  17. Not disagreeing with anything you said. I know who Ed Young is. We lived in Dallas and had friends who were regulars at his son's, Ed Jr, "church" in Grapevine. We have "friends" who are in Olsteen's flock. Ed Youngs website clearly details what type of bullshit christianity that he preaches. I doubt anyone who goes there is voting for Biden. Same for Ed Jr's flock, same for Olsteen's flock. They are exactly the type of "christians" who have perverted the Republican party.
  18. Any member of this charlatan's "church" is most likely a MAGAt anyway. They've heard way worse bullshit. But fuck him and his congregation.
  19. He's returning to the US, except headless. https://russiavsworld.org/russell-bentley-texan-pro-putin-fighter-and-russian-propagandist-found-decapitated-in-russian-controlled-donetsk/ Texan Russell Bentley was found decapitated in Petrovskiy district of Donetsk (temporary occupied territory of Ukraine) at 10 AM, 14 April 2024. Beside his beheaded corpse were found Bentley’s passport with registration in Donetsk, Makarov pistol, credit cards and his wallet. He used to fight for the pro-Russian militia battalion “Vostok”. Russell Bentley went missing on 8 April 2024. Russell Bentley, 63, who is married to a Russian woman and has a passport from his adopted country, disappeared after an attack by Defense Force of Ukraine, according to reports. He was last seen in Donetsk on 8 April before moving in an ‘unknown direction’, and his current location is unknown. Bentley has posted that he was ‘heading west with the “Liberators of Ukraine”. We may stop in Kiev, we may stop on the English Channel. We may liberate the USA.’ In 1999 he escaped from a minimum security US facility where he was being held for drug trafficking. I didn’t have to dig a tunnel or take anybody hostage. But I did escape from prison’, Bentley said. He was later captured and put in a high security facility to finish his sentence. He became a fighter for pro-Putin forces in 2014 after breaking up with his yoga-instructor girlfriend, though he spoke almost no Russian. He called himself the information warrior and had worked for a media outlet affiliated with Sputnik, a Russian state media outlet.
  20. More good news. https://hsc.unm.edu/news/2024/04/microplastics-in-organs.html Microplastics Make Their Way from the Gut to Other Organs, UNM Researchers Find In a recent paper published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, University of New Mexico researchers found that those tiny particles – microplastics – are having a significant impact on our digestive pathways, making their way from the gut and into the tissues of the kidney, liver and brain. “Over the past few decades, microplastics have been found in the ocean, in animals and plants, in tap water and bottled water,” Castillo, says. “They appear to be everywhere.” Scientists estimate that people ingest 5 grams of microplastic particles each week on average – equivalent to the weight of a credit card. Over a four-week period, Castillo, postdoctoral fellow Marcus Garcia, PharmD, and other UNM researchers exposed mice to microplastics in their drinking water. The amount was equivalent to the quantity of microplastics humans are believed to ingest each week. Microplastics had migrated out of the gut into the tissues of the liver, kidney and even the brain, the team found. The study also showed the microplastics changed metabolic pathways in the affected tissues. “We could detect microplastics in certain tissues after the exposure,” Castillo says. “That tells us it can cross the intestinal barrier and infiltrate into other tissues.” Castillo says he’s also concerned about the accumulation of the plastic particles in the human body. “These mice were exposed for four weeks,” he says. “Now, think about how that equates to humans, if we're exposed from birth to old age.” He has previously found that microplastics are also impacting macrophages – the immune cells that work to protect the body from foreign particles. In a paper published in the journal Cell Biology & Toxicology in 2021, Castillo and other UNM researchers found that when macrophages encountered and ingested microplastics, their function was altered and they released inflammatory molecules. “It is changing the metabolism of the cells, which can alter inflammatory responses,” Castillo says. “During intestinal inflammation – states of chronic illness such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, which are both forms of inflammatory bowel disease – these macrophages become more inflammatory and they’re more abundant in the gut.”
