Glad you did my favorite part about visiting Paris, walking around getting "lost" in the city and finding out how fucking awesome it is. The "rude Parisians" are the ones clueless American's walk up to and without even a polite "Bonjour Monsieur/Madame", immediately start speaking/asking questions in English, and then get pissed that the French person France is not so nice or cordial in answering. Florence is awesome but for me Florence is a place where I love to visit. Paris is a place where I'd love to live.

Worst bike crash I ever had. We had a neighborhood slide like the below which broke. We decided to convert it into a bike ramp. Laid if flat on the ground which meant the ramp was about 60 degrees straight up. I was the first and only idiot to try the jump. Hauled ass, took the jump, which basically shot me up vertically. No down ramp to come down on. I landed straight down on both wheels. My handle bar stripped forward. I fell over the front of the bike as the handle bar stripped. My nuts crashed the goose neck at the base of the handle bar. I broke my balls and dick. I don't think I stopped crying for 30 mins. My friends could not stop laughing the entire time. It was the last time I ever tried any stupid shit on my bike.

Yay, another historical global heat record!!!!! https://www.cbsnews.com/news/record-high-temperatures-12-straight-months/ World hits 12 straight months of record-high temperatures — but as warming continues, it'll be "remembered as comparatively cold" The world has now marked one full year of back-to-back monthly heat records, the European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service announced on Wednesday. It said last month was the hottest May in recorded history — the 12th consecutive month in which the monthly high temperature record was broken. It was also the 11th consecutive month where the global average temperature was at least 1.5 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial average. If that trend continues, it would mean the world is passing a major climate change milestone. May's average temperature was 1.52 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial average, Copernicus reported, while the global average temperature from June 2023 to May 2024 was 1.63 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial average. The pre-industrial average refers to the period before there was a sharp increase in emissions of greenhouse gases, which trap heat from the sun within the Earth's atmosphere and warm the planet. Experts have long warned that keeping average global temperatures no more than 1.5 degrees Celsius above that mark is critical to reduce the risk of rampant damage caused by rising global temperatures. As the planet warms, the heat leads to more precipitation and melting sea ice, fueling extreme weather conditions that can result in shifting coastlines, agricultural issues, mass migration and harmful health consequences. Carlo Buontempo, director of the Copernicus Climate Change Service, said that the 12-month streak "is shocking but not surprising," and that while the streak will likely see an interruption at some point, "the overall signature of climate change remains." "There is no sign in sight of a change in such a trend," he said. "We are living in unprecedented times. ... This string of hottest months will be remembered as comparatively cold."

The whole family including the dog could stand to lose a few 10-50 pounds. Maybe this shit wouldn't happen. The bitching from the wife is the chef's kiss.

So this whole internet thing...lust and sloth.

At this moment, humanity has access to the any information which has ever existed. As a result, we as whole are more stupid and angrier than ever. There's no public discourse anymore. It's just yelling to further entrench our points. But the porn is great. The internet facilitated our descent into stupidity. -

+1 on Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak drive Take the train which runs along Arkansas River through the Royal Gorge. It starts and ends in Canon City. Your kids will enjoy it. https://www.royalgorgeroute.com/ Canon City is kinda dumpy and not much to do. Then drive to the top of the bridge and see the gorge from that perspective. https://royalgorgebridge.com/ When driving back, take a small 5-20 min detour to Skyline drive. https://maps.app.goo.gl/byK6sxjTBXDC5j5d8 Manitou Springs is a nice little town to walk around. https://www.visitcos.com/areas/manitou-springs/ Seven Falls is an easy, beautiful hike/climb. You can do this when you visit the Broadmoor. https://www.sevenfalls.com/ We took our kids twice to Colorado Springs when they were 4 and 6, and again at 6 and 8. Both times they loved everything that we did on the list. Edit: Warning, all these things will be touristy and crowded. Your kids won't care or remember the crowds. They'll remember the experience.

Interesting to see what the internet does to a reclusive society. I'm of the opinion that the internet is a net negative. Porn and discord. Everyone is angrier, especially the dudes not getting laid. https://www.news.com.au/technology/online/internet/remote-amazon-tribe-finally-connects-to-internet-only-to-wind-up-hooked-on-porn-social-media/news-story/6abfea69d9dd7e49541ef46eb61558c4 A reclusive tribe in the Amazon finally got hooked up to the internet — only to be torn apart by social media and porn addiction. A reclusive tribe in the Amazon finally got hooked up to the internet, thanks to Elon Musk — only to be torn apart by social media and pornography addiction, elders complain. Brazil’s 2000-member Marubo tribe has been left bitterly divided by the arrival of the Tesla founder’s Starlink service nine months ago, which connected the remote rainforest community along the Ituí River to the web for the first time. “When it arrived, everyone was happy,” Tsainama Marubo, 73, told The New York Times. “But now, things have gotten worse. Young people have gotten lazy because of the internet, they’re learning the ways of the white people.” The Marubo tribe gained access to Starlink last September. Picture: Navi Global The Marubo are a chaste tribe, who even frown upon kissing in public — but Alfredo Marubo (all Marubo use the same last name) said he is anxious that the arrival of the service, which delivers super-fast internet to far-flung corners of the planet and has been billed as a game-changer by Mr Musk, could up-end standards of decorum. Alfredo said many young Marubo men have been sharing porn videos in group chats and he has already observed more “aggressive sexual behaviour” in some of them. “We’re worried young people are going to want to try it,” he said of the kinky sex acts they’ve suddenly been exposed to on screen. “Everyone is so connected that sometimes they don’t even talk to their own family.” Starlink works by connecting antennas to 6000 low-orbiting satellites. The necessary antennas were donated to the tribe by American entrepreneur Allyson Reneau. Initially, the internet was heralded as a positive for the remote tribe who were able to quickly contact authorities for help with emergencies, including potentially deadly snake bites. “It’s already saved lives,” Enoque Marubo, 40, stated. Members are also able to share educational resources with other Amazonian tribes and connect with friends and family who now live elsewhere. But elders say people quickly became addicted to porn and social media. Picture: Navi Global It has also opened up a world of possibilities for young Marubo, some of whom have been unable to conceptualise what lays beyond their immediate surrounds. One teen told The Times that she now dreams of travelling of the world, while another says she aspires to become a dentist in São Paulo. However, Enoque also complained of the significant downsides. “It changed the routine so much that it was detrimental,” he stated. “In the village, if you don’t hunt, fish and plant, you don’t eat.” “Some young people maintain our traditions,” TamaSay Marubo, 42, added. “Others just want to spend the whole afternoon on their phones.” ‘Young people have gotten lazy because of the internet.’ Tribespeople became so addicted that Marubo leaders, fearing that history and culture — which is passed down orally — could be lost forever, they have now limited access to the internet for two hours each morning, five hours each evening, and all day Sunday. But parents still worry the damage may already be done. Another father, Kâipa Marubo, said he’s anxious about his children playing violent first-person shooter games. “I’m worried that they’re suddenly going to want to mimic them,” he stated. Meanwhile, others say that they’ve fallen victim to internet scams given that they lack digital literacy, while many youngsters are chatting with strangers on social media. Flora Dutra, a Brazilian activist who works with indigenous tribes, was instrumental in helping connect the Marubo to the internet. She believes anxieties about the internet are inflated, and asserts that most tribespeople “wanted and deserved” access to the world wide web. Still, some officials in Brazil have criticised the rollout to the remote communities, saying special cultures and customs could now be lost forever. “This is called ethnocentrism,” Ms Dutra said of such critiques. “The white man thinking they know what’s best.”

47 yr old man living in his 70 yr old mom's basement kills and lights her body on fire because he was gaming too hard, bro. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/man-sentenced-to-decades-in-prison-for-killing-mother-after-argument-over-video-games/ar-BB1nDggb Thomas Humphrey was living in his mother's basement at the time of the killing. She had just given him a PlayStation for his 47th birthday, and the two were arguing about how loud he was playing video games before she was stabbed 22 times and almost decapitated.

Didn't want to start a new thread so this is where this story is going. Dead at nursing home. Alive at funeral home. Dead at hospital. https://abcnews.go.com/US/woman-believed-dead-hospice-care-found-alive/story?id=110792361 The "unusual" incident began Monday morning, according to Lancaster County Chief Deputy Ben Houchin. The woman had been transported from a nursing home, where she had been declared dead at around 9:44 a.m. local time, to the Butherus-Maser & Love Funeral Home in Lincoln, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities responded to the funeral home after an employee noticed the woman was breathing and "instantly called 911" at approximately 11:44 a.m. Monday, according to Houchin. Funeral home staff conducted CPR on the woman -- identified by authorities as Constance Glantz of Lincoln -- and she was transported to a local hospital alive, Houchin said. Glantz ultimately died at the hospital at approximately 4 p.m. Monday, Houchin said. Her family has been notified, he said.

26% of Fort Worth’s single family homes are owned by companies

I like capitalism which socializes the losses but privatizes the profits. That's the best capitalism. -
Prometheus absolutely ruin this franchise for me. This looks to go back to the original 2 movies which is a horror movie in a spaceship. They were great but do we need another one decades later. I really want someone to make a movie worth a shit about the Creators and Aliens without the magic goo but I guess we'll maybe settle for an Aliens 2 reboot.

What the fuck is wrong with you, Houston? Non-CR thread
crash_davis replied to crash_davis's topic in Daily Texan
Other than LA, the other cities are inland. I always thought of LA as a slightly prettier Houston, which is saying it's fucking ugly as shit but not quite as ugly as Houston. I don't visit inland CA so I have no idea, but what about inland CA makes it so shitty, other than the people and the meth. -

American dream is disappearing for the younger generation. https://amp.star-telegram.com/news/local/fort-worth/article288911228.html Roughly one out of every four single family homes in Fort Worth are owned by an investor, company or corporation, according to a city analysis of data from the Tarrant Appraisal District. The city’s report is just an estimate, because data from the appraisal district doesn’t specify if a home is owned by a company or individual. However, the city was able to make an approximation using information about tax exemptions, owner names and addresses. The city classified owner-occupied homes as those with a homestead exemption, homes where the owner’s address matched the property address, and the owner’s name didn’t include terms like LLC, LTD, Inc., or trust. Commercially owned properties were defined as those without a homestead exemption, owner names containing the previously mentioned terms, and those where the owner’s address didn’t match the property address. Using those classifications, the city found that 64,372 of the 247,485 single family homes, or 26%, in Fort Worth were owned by a corporation or company.

2024 Presidential Election Thread - Let's keep the party going.

I don't give a shit about the Electoral College. It's been the way we vote for Presidents for over 2 centuries. It is what it is. I just find it funny as shit that Republicans are so against AA and DEI but it's because of DEI/AA that their candidates even stand a chance of being elected. -

Houston is the dirtiest city in America! No wai!!!!! https://www.kxan.com/news/local/2-texas-cities-are-among-the-dirtiest-in-us-study/ The study analyzed data from various federal agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Census Bureau, Department of Energy, and Environmental Protection Agency. Houston topped the list of so-called dirtiest cities due to high levels of pollution, a significant cockroach problem, and greenhouse gas emissions from large industrial plants. Researchers also cited a 2022 report from the nonprofit media organization Grist, which found that some of Houston’s “petrochemical facilities severely violated EPA safety guidelines.” 1 Houston, Texas 2 Newark, New Jersey 3 San Bernardino, California 4 Detroit, Michigan 5 Jersey City, New Jersey 6 Bakersfield, California 7 San Antonio, Texas 8 Fresno, California 9 Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 10 Yonkers, New York 11 Shreveport, Louisiana 12 New York, New York 13 Birmingham, Alabama 14 Ontario, California 15 Los Angeles, California 16 Modesto, California 17 Palmdale, California 18 Hollywood, Florida 19 Las Vegas, Nevada 20 Fort Lauderdale, Florida In Ohio, cigarette litter is a common problem across the state, according to the study. Cleveland had the highest percentage of smokers (29.1%), leading to litter problems despite strict laws. -

Instead of Pagosa Springs, for the month of July we are staying the month in the mountains about 15 miles west of Golden. The house is around 9k feet which should be absolutely gorgeous weather wise. I love Pagosa Springs but the wife thinks it's a little too far from civilization (that's what I love about it) to retire. So we are going to explore the foothill towns west of Denver as ideal places to retire. Nice compromise between mountain towns and close to civilization (major airport, restaurants, shopping, doctors/dentists, etc). I'm thinking Loveland but we'll see. Anyway, counting the days until I can leave Austin/Texas for a glorious month. Retirement cannot get here soon enough.
