  1. Username, etc. “Did you see what he had on?” “Yeah, it was pretty cool.” Sorry tangential Bottle Rocket reference in honor of future man. As for the new one, can’t wait. Initial impressions have been positive. And I liked French Dispatch but admittedly watched it in installments on various train commutes over a couple of weeks and it worked as a “serial” that way.
  2. And cumin. That’s also what’s missing in so many store salsas. I think because it’s hard to shelf stabilize and the flavor gets bitter as it deteriorates. But not sure.
  3. That was some of the worst bleeping of bad words I’ve ever seen.
  4. I’m a sucker for On The Border salsa but haven’t eaten at one in probably 15 years.
  5. What you think I mean bald? Bald. BALD bald. She’s bald? She’s bald, Jerry!
  6. Only one way to find out!
  7. I haven’t played Pearls for years mainly because of their hardware and lots of my drum setups are Franken-sets, but damn they make some pretty drums.
  8. So true. “Horseman, Pass By” is one of my all time favorite book titles. Followed closely by “Some Can Whistle” and “Your Turn to Curtsy, My Turn to Bow” You could do worse than just spending a month hopping amongst Larry McMurtry, William Goldman, and Cormac McCarthy. All great American voices that in my mind have a weird through-line to one another. As a totally guilty aside, “Anything for Billy” by McMurtry is one of my all time favorite books, (almost at the same literary level as “The Once and Future King” by TH White) but just so good and simple. Almost E. B. White good and simple. And just sorta perfect. Cormac was obviously later than THW and EBW, but he was a contemporary influence on Goldman and McMurtry. I love to think their work was so great because of his literary pioneering, directly or indirectly.
  9. Exact same. Border trilogy is amazing and beautiful. Blood Meridien is life altering. The Road is, too, but it’s also more narrative one the surface. I’m an English major dork, but, without exaggerating this point, I switched to English my freshman year entirely because I encountered and then devoured McCarthy.
  10. We better hear you posting some clips here or the Drum thread soon, Sidis.
  11. The fuck is a John Rich? Garth pretty much ruled my early high school years. Glad to hear he’s continued to be a good dude.
  12. Damn. My wife’s from Maine (incidentally won’t go within 5 feet of mayo, sadly) and we live in Connecticut so this mostly hits close to home.
  13. Kruger would never allow two KoKos! Sounds like runs a real tight ship.
  14. Team sparkle. Champagne or silver are my sparkles of choice. I still also keep scrolling up to Sidis’s new kit. I like darker sparkle backgrounds because on a stage under any kind of light they just look badass.
  15. I’m sorry, George, but it’s true.
  16. I can just see myself smashing that thing against the load-in door at Ego’s (not Emo’s, mind you) back in 1997 and then having our bass player leave a cigarette burning on the kick drum. Or I’d spill my own Jack n Diet on it mid-set and not have any kind of towel or anything. I like to look at exotic wood drums but don’t think I’d ever spend for one. I beat up drums to badly (and not just back when on the middle-of-the-week, pay-us-in-beer gigging circuit in Austin). That said, lots of the mainstream makers (DW, Noble & Cooley, CC, Yamaha, Mapex, Tama primarily) do some very cool wood drums. I had a friend who is a Sonor artist in Austin and they gave him one of these last summer and it was pretty sweet sounding. And looked amazing.
  17. Okay last one for a bit, this kit I sold when I moved from Los Angeles to NYC and had to seriously downsize. Custom orange sparkle with white powder-coated hardware. And massive 22x24 cannon of a kick drum. No idea who I thought I was when I had this made but it was a great kit.
  18. Can’t find too many good pics but this is a hand-painted Melon Collie-era kit that Jimmy Chamberlain toured with. It’s bananas.
