  1. I was at the English Teeth and Low Cut Connie show at C-boys and it was great. I’m friends with English Teeth and play with them occasionally but they really brought it. And two of the three English Teeth guys are with us in Infinite Hiss at High Noon this evening; Garrett T Capps also playing and then White Denim. We go on at 6 for anyone interested.

  3. If anyone wants to see a surly-ite play drums come see Infinite Hiss at the Rambler party at High Noon - we play at 6 inside and then white denim is headliner.
  4. Emperors
. So, double ply on batter, single on resonant.
  5. I’m an Ambassador resonant-only kinda guy.
  6. I’m more interested to understand why someone would be married to clear heads
. Regardless coated heads tend to be generally more versatile and sound better for the widest range of sounds. And double ply, same thing.
  7. I need to get out of a rut and somewhere between the Steel Shank thread and Shit I’ve Cooked Lately, I’m looking for ideas for easy and healthy-ish weeknight ideas. We regularly do tacos, turkey “chili,” chicken piccata, turkey burgers. What are some of y’all’s go-to meals?
  8. I was gonna say “Road to Ensenada” or “Red Dirt Girl” by Emmylou, along these same lines.
  9. He’s a friend of a friend. You know Corky Ramirez up on 94th street? Well, one day we were playing Pachenko
. Same episode: Do I scare you? NO
 a little.
  10. Nice! I watched one of Roland’s artists play their new acoustic design set at CES and it was unreal. If only I had an extra $9k burning a hole in my pocket
.
  11. I’m wrasslin’ with deciding what I want and figured here would be a good place to gather opinions (cuz I know y’all have them). I’m looking for a roper boot and can’t decide between lizard and full quill ostrich - either would be in a chocolate or butterscotch-ish brown. Never bought anything exotic - if either of those would be considered to be - but those are the two I’m most drawn to.
  12. Or just sell it and downsize? Oh, wait. Right.
  13. Bonus points for the Lego tool in the background.
  14. I’m so keen-o For beef-a-reeno What a delicious cuisine-o Fit for king or queen-o
  15. Just discovered this thread and it’s a great one. I have lots of opinions and I’m team Purple Rain as it relates to Prince. But one that always pops into my head related to this question is actually a b-side from Smashing Pumpkins. “Set the Ray to Jerry” Its a great melody and kinda like everything SP does well in one song. Plus Chamberlain just impeccable throughout.
  16. Haven’t scrolled all the way up (and, he’ll, I might have already posted) but two for me: - Rushmore - when Max introduces Herman Blume to his father. The reaction from Bill Murray is one of the most poignant 2 seconds I can think of in any film - Braveheart - “freeeeedooooooooommm!” - Full Monty - several scenes with the dad and son and with Dave feeling insecure and the reaction when the older guy doesn’t get the job because they pranked him. Great acting everywhere. Then it’s such a feel good ending. (Nttawwt?)
  17. Quick update. Got an email from the teacher yesterday that there was indeed a typo in that question 2 and she appreciated how much people are supporting the kids and classes (apparently across the four third grade classes who all get the same math challenges, several parents pointed out the issue). I respect the hell out of her and our whole group of teachers (we moved to our town at least half because of the renown of its schools). And I think, overall, teaching is the noblest and least appreciated job in our struggling society. But I’ll admit I was secretly thrilled to be vindicated. (I should probably get out more.)
  18. Yes, exactly. And "bonus challenge" questions aren't related to core curriculum, they're intentionally big stretches to get the kids thinking about math concepts and logic. Nevertheless, you would hope the teacher would write answerable questions, knowing parents are going to be helping out.
  19. For the first, it's 12 and 18. That one's easy and she may have graded that one correctly. For the second one, though, it doesn't work with whole numbers as written, e.g.: x+y=41 To solve for x: y=2x+1 X+(2x+1) = 41 3X + 1 = 41 3x = 41 -1 3x = 40 x = 13 1/3 and y=27 2/3 So, 14 and 27 is close, but doesn't meet both equations. And here's the REAL kicker, the teacher said x=20 and y=21. Am I crazy?!
  20. Despite being told there would be no math, I need some help. My daughter is in the third grade and each week they have a bonus "math challenge" that hits on logic problems, algebra, etc. Now, I'm not a math guy, but I retain enough from high school to be dangerous. And I also know that out of 20 or so questions this year, on 5 or 6, her math teacher has fundamentally either written a long form question ambiguously such that there are multiple correct answers and/or has just flat out not graded the correct answer. Two examples are below if you'd care to solve them with me and we'll just see how smart she is! 1. The sum of two numbers is 30. Three times the first plus twice the second number is 72. Find the numbers. 2. The sum of two numbers is 41. One number is one more than twice the other. Find the others. What say the Surly?
  21. I can’t speak to the Tesla question but we had a 2017 xc90 that had all kinds of electronics issues and with the climate system (which, again is all linked to the interface and cpu). Finally, after third “reboot” by the dealer we traded it for a 2021 and it’s been flawless. Our guy at Volvo basically said that 16-18 model years were just glitchy in about one out of ten made. They apparently overhauled it in 2018. Also had issues with the auto-start override.
