  1. Oh, not a problem. There - I erased it. But it was in pen. You fake erased.
  2. Goddamn. What a clip. I was at UT ā€˜94-98 and saw them a lot - huge fan and a big part of what was a massive swell of good local music in Austin. Arc Angels, both Sextons, Storyville, Velvet Hammer, Soulhat, MC Overlord, etc etc. Chris and Tommy never donā€™t blow me awayā€¦ their blood pressures never even budge meanwhile theyā€™re flat out murdering the pocket. Chris still owns/plays that purple Fibes kit (drool) and Tommy just looks like he was literally invented here on earth to hold a bass. And whatever happened to Malford? He was such a talent and great voice. Great in the studio and live.
  3. Actually. Youā€™re right - I meant for zildjian donā€™t go below A. K is generally their best overall but the A line has more ā€œspecializedā€ variations. And there are a lot of factors and variations, primarily along the lines of weight and brightness. Zildjian and Sabian both have great cymbals (as do Paiste and Meinl). Itā€™s just a matter of ear and preference. I started playing sabian and just have (mostly) stuck with them. And Iā€™ve had nearly a dozen and a half drumsets come and go, but my cymbal library just keeps growing and can serve many different applications and styles. Kinda the same can be said for snares but I generally have played a Ludwig black beauty in some iteration as my go-to.
  4. Double stamping the used cymbal and use earplugs comments. If Iā€™d been smarter when I was starting out Iā€™d be able to hear better now and would have a little more cash in my wallet. But regardless, buy the best cymbals you can buy with your budget. For sabian - which is what I play - do not buy below their AAX line and for zildjian - donā€™t go below K line. And if you can go hit some used cymbals in a shop or even Guitar Center. Sometimes youā€™ll find a no-name or very old cymbal that looks like shit but sounds great. The one thing I disagree with JJ on, which is very rare, is donā€™t polish your cymbalsā€¦ Be proud of that sweet, sweet patina. The time youā€™ll spend polishing she could be practicing! Final cymbals comment, for starters you might also look for a cymbal set - hats, crash and ride are all you need - and they often go on sale new. I also recommend finding the set she wants and look for a gently used one but if you go that route I wouldnā€™t buy from an individual. A used gear shop or drum shop will do a little quality control and theyā€™ll be much more expert at shipping which for a layman is a huge pain in the ass to do. Also, watch some videos on drum tuning (especially snare). There is an art to it and it takes a lot of playing around to dial in your sound.
  5. Any recos for Tidal? I have Spotify but itā€™s been commandeered mostly by my wife, 5 yo and 8 yo so that shitā€™s all wack.
  6. Seeing these new pics, Iā€™m back to thinking tortoise pick guard. But itā€™s a looker either way!
  7. Thatā€™ll eat. By the way, tell me about that panā€¦ carbon steel or cast iron? Canā€™t tell.
  8. Just the wines you picturedā€¦ good lord.
  9. Kroger is a very well run company and grew to dominate the pure play grocery category through acquisition (Fred Meyer, Ralphā€™s, etc). This is just another -admittedly largest footprint - iteration. The paths to domination in grocery evolved 10 years in about 2 days during Covid March. E-commerce and first party data. Kroger is behind Amazon (Whole Foods) and Walmart in e-commerce but gaining share and launching a hub and spoke high tech ecomm only offering outside of their current footprint. Huge. And theyā€™re kings with 1PD. If the FTC looks at anything it will be the shopper data implications of this merger first and foremost.
  10. I think heā€™s more of a master debater.
  11. Thatā€™s a fine-looking truck, Cajun. Iā€™m in the Tacoma market because the new Tundras are so spendy, but they are such good trucks.
  12. Sorry for a non-guitar-god questionā€¦ but what does ā€œdetentā€ mean?
  13. I generally love tortoiseshell on any color Fender but Iā€™m this particular one, I think it looks great as is. Unless itā€™s more blue / less turquoise than the picture suggests and then Iā€™d be skinning up a turtle pronto.
  14. Jerry and Elaine are drinking coors yella to celebrate the break up of David and Beth Lookner.

Yeah those bronze ones are nice and loud. A little darker sound than brass, usually. But they can all be tuned across a range of tones to really pop. Copelands sound was very well known and distinct and shifted a lot of drummers sounds from the more resonant snare sound to what then was more prevalent in the 80s onward (and was also in a lot of pop electronic drum sounds, aka the hand clap).

Itā€™s a brass 14x5 with 10 lugs and a die cast batter hoop. Itā€™s thicker than most (1.5mmā€¦ most brass shells are closer to or even thinner than a mm thick). It really has a crazy ā€œcrackā€ and breakthrough sound. Iā€™ve got same sized Black Beauty and even tuned super tight it doesnā€™t quite have the same pop. That said, the BB is, in my opinion, the best sounding and versatile snare you can buy.

Great thread. I think Iā€™ll follow todayā€™s game with a little listening party. I, too, have Zenyatta as my overall favorite but I will say Synchronicity II --> Every Breath You Take ā€”> King of Pain ā€”> Wrapped Around Your Finger is a killer string of songs on one album. Just a murdererā€™s row of melodies. Also, I think Copeland is one of my top 5 favorites and easily one of the best and most innovative drummers in rock music. And his snare sound is like no other. And about once a week I check Reverb for a deal on one of his signature Tamas.
  18. Could someone explain to me like Iā€™m five what the consensus is (or if there is one) on whether the Great Filter is ahead or behind us? And are we really closer to the final step at an interstellar scale?
  19. Iā€™m just gonna say - and this is probably not a popular opinion - but really like binding on telecasters.
  20. Great tune. And I hadnā€™t thought about Big Star in a while until that article. Good find. Great tune. And I hadnā€™t thought about Big Star in a while until that article. Good find.
  21. Wtf?! I had not heard about this but I was always fond of the olā€™ girl. Of course, she probably kinda sounded like shit on a practical level - dimensions and acoustics and what not. But sad news. Next youā€™re gonna tell me people are reconsidering ā€œThe Eyesā€ - as if!
  22. Iā€™ve switched to mostly Yamaha hardware but was all Tama before (dw for cymbal stands). They make very good hardware. Love that youā€™re continuing to upgrade all around! I might need to wander over the the Drum Center of Portsmouth site soonā€¦..
  23. Yeah, as a Yankees fan actually paying attention, this season was a fun ride but not because there was some real likelihood that we actually were the best team in baseball. Judge was amazing. The first third of games were feel-good summer fun. If we turn around and advance a little, thatā€™s great. But we are playing exactly like who we are. Everything now is just bonus.
