  1. Fascinating and infuriating read. I don’t know, Hank. I, of course, want to say fuck ‘em all, too. But the machinery is so vast that there has to be room for shades of grey (or shade of stupid) if even at the top it’s all charcoal black. Like it or not, there are impactful government careerist and military types who are republicans still but ultimately answer to the constitution and rule of law. If we lose them, we are fucked. Not being a traitor doesn’t mean you’re a hero; but with known traitors in their midst, I’m glad somebody is there to put a governor on the madness… and the unthinkable outcomes.
  2. No because of CT fair trade law. He made money off selling lies. We don’t like that up in these parts.
  3. You couldn’t script a better gut punch. Hahaha. Fuck OU to hell.
  4. I know there is a big guitar bias here (and I am all for it) but don’t forget that the syncopated cowbell, the 16th note triplet kick, and the super “thunk-y” quarter note big tom transition fills changed how every rock drummer (and bass player) thought about, not just their instrument, but about their role in MAKING THE MUSIC. Indeed, the world was never the same.
  5. I agree. When I upgraded all of my game to SS (and cast iron skillet, of course) I thought I would be cool and eschew non-stick. And then I remembered I like not working too hard sometimes on just simple foods/meals and saving my energy for more ambitious cooking. And I also like eggs.
  6. What is a barometer exactly? It’s pronounced “thermometer.”
  7. I really like Tedeschi/Trucks and I think Susan’s got a fantastic voice, but I kinda get a Joe Bonamassa vibe from them. A little too affected at times.
  8. Let’s go on out Peter Luger on the nyc list (which could be very long!)
  9. Looks like a guy wearing waders that will drown him if he goes over.
  10. I find pastrami to be the most sensual of all the salt cured meats.
  11. Just random ones but that set a “new” tone for their respective bands for that particular album: Peter Gabriel - Come Talk To Me - Us Black Crowes - Midnight from the Inside Out - Lions (underrated album) Patty Griffin - Flaming Red Wilco - Misunderstood - Kicking Television live Dire Straits - So Far Away - Brothers in Arms Phosphorescent - Sun, Arise! - Muchacho
  12. My eyes might have been bigger than my stomach. *not pictured: entire velveeta block of queso ** also not pictured: my wife who’s out of town for the evening
  13. I’ll have a Guinness and a shot of Jameson. (furious swirling beer bubbles in the pint glass)
  14. We love Westport. It’s kinda a big playground for grownups and an easy laid back family town. Great beaches and boating, the town tennis and golf and other facilities, leagues, etc are top notch. It’s also got a strong local vibe versus some burbs where it’s all just a pit stop in between commutes to the city. Has a great arts and cultural community (lots of ex Broadway and arts folks live here) versus the money and snobby feeling that is pretty strong in a lot of coastal CT. And the schools are about the best in the state and that is saying something in CT. The only issue is it’s about as far a commute as you would want to have to NYC. I go in 2-3 days a week and it’s about an hour and half door to door. Used to be quicker when I worked right by Grand Central.

    Facing Nolan

Reposting because Tapa is fucking me up: Loved it. I was at the Ventura game in Arlington. He was my hero before but after that night, he was a god. Only negative thing about this doc for me was that some of the last scenes were a little blurry…. my iPad probably just stirring up a little dust in the room, I reckon. Edited to humble brag that I was also at David Cone’s perfect game in Yankee stadium (disclaimer I’m a lifelong Yankees fan) a few years later and i doubt I’ll ever be a part of a more transcendent sporting experience, but the Nolan ass whooping is still the one I feel most lucky to have seen.

  17. I lived in New York for four years after UT, then back to Austin and then back to NYC again and then to LA and then back a third and final time about 6 years ago. I actually now live in Westport now so the last few questions hit close to home. As for October activities near Westport, lots of great hiking and outdoor stuff but it’s kinda a weird time for “activities.” It’s a beach and golf and tennis town so summer is really our prime time. You can do plenty of nice scenic leaf-viewing drives, apple picking, and other Autumn stuff. Some great breweries in the area and Litchfield distillery is a fun time. Now, if you happen to fish / fly fish, it’s a good place to be in October - both stripers on the sound or trout in the rivers.
  18. It’s not bad. The chicken is great but the waffles are a little too….. …oh, wait. I see it now.
