    REK

No2 Love Dinner doesn’t have a stinker on the whole album and I wore that thing out back in the day. Think I may fire up a little Gringo Honeymoon and Sonora’s Death Row this morning. His voice is both so bad and so undeniably infectious at the same time. Would love to see an older more refined REK. He and Lyle Lovett were doing some online shows in the early pandemic days and now I’m kicking myself that I didn’t catch one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. Agree totally and I wasn’t being flippant about the REM thing either (although that might just be because the chorus hook vocally is similar). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  7. Love “Wild” and excited to hear more. And JJ I really need to know more about your DCI days. I’m a massive fan of Cavaliers (and drum and bugle in general). I was a trumpet player but never committed and probably wasn’t good enough for that level. I don’t know if it’s own thread but I love it and respect the shit out of anyone that did jt, especially at the level of the Cavaliers. And love drummers who grew up in that rudimentary world (Gadd not least of which, but I love Glenn’s Wilco contributions too, style of which is unique). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I don’t hate on PRS guitars that much but also see them as just technical geek guitars - and beautiful sounding and well made for sure. But more substance than style if that makes sense. I live in a little Connecticut town full of finance and lawyer and marketing exec types… and our “School of Rock” equivalent (which I love by the way) played a little festival thing in the fall and there was one kid playing a Nirvana cover on a (admittedly gorgeous) PRS McCarty (I think?) hollow body and it just didn’t compute and made me oddly mad - in a supportive way, of course. I wouldn’t hate PRS in a session setting or with a Pat metheny type virtuoso but doesn’t feel like the guitar it wants to look like. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. I was through four episodes and got derailed but it was one my all time favorite first impressions of a show ever. Glad I saw this thread - I’m going back in! Huzzah indeed! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I agree. Wish that blue was a bit more “Pelham blue” and the green more Gretsch Olive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Arc Angels!

Quick CSB, a band I played in way back in the early 2000s was involved (long story) in a film that premiered at sxsw about the impact of corporate radio on great music. In support of the film, there was a big showcase at Austin Music Hall and my band was one a couple of openers for a show that has as its finale DBII, Erykah Badu, questlove, and DJ Jazzy Jeff. It was a highlight of our little band’s short tenure with the only downside being that I’d loaded in my drum kit and at the last minute I had to play questlove’s kit and he is about 6’ 3” and I’m 5’ 8” so that wasn’t nerve-wracking at all. But point of the story is that of all those guys (and a number of other real locals like Chris and Tommy, Malford Milligan, Charlie and Will, etc), Doyle was the coolest motherfucker in the world and treated everyone at soundcheck and pre and post show exactly the same. (Maybe a little extra love for Erykah). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Arc Angels!

I always wondered that too. I just assumed they were all so busy with other gigs, but they did have a special something together. DB II sure tries to channel SRV but if anyone has a right to do a little copycatting I supposed it’s him given his parentage. And says a lot that Chris and Tommy have supported them all along. Btw, Chris still has and plays that sparkly Fibes kit from the Alamo show. Love it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Lots of great stuff. I would just suggest going to Harry’s New York bar in Paris. Great fun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I’ve recently added a little tomato paste but not actual tomatoes but I can see it being great. In the course of a good chili cook you could add tons of tomatoes, or rotel, or, onions, or just about anything and cook it down to nearly nothing anyway.
  23. There is a disturbing trend this weekend of picture-less posts in this forum. But, I can picture it in my mind and it sounds good (even if a can of Rotel was used - and I can’t talk because I’m currently simmering a batch of kid-friendly turkey chili with beans eg, chili stew). And I, too, am curious about the non-meat gravy recipe. Looks smashing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Looks fantastic. I’ve been wanting to try this. A couple of questions…. How deep is the pot you’re using there? Looks kinda Dutch oven depth. And when you remove the fat and reserve what do you do with the rest of the liquid? And the veggies? I think this may be my next-weekend project up here in snowy Connecticut - just need to get my hands on some chiles which are hard to source right now (and generally up here). 25. One more random thought on Wildflowers (the song) it feels Tweedy-like in his more “pretty” songs - Airline in the Sky, California Stars, etc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
