  1. You arenā€™t alone. On this point, or the broader one about the album overall. Going even further, I actually think Wildflowers is my favorite Tom Petty song. Iā€™ve been listening to him tons recently because of this thread and I love all of it so much and Damn the Torpedoes is one of the most influential albums of my youth. But I love the grace of Wildflowers (the track) - the orchestration, the restraint and simplicity, the subtly dramatic bridge. And interestingly it feels like a bridge to the Wilburys stuff. Iā€™ll also admit Iā€™m probably in a rare group that absolutely loves the track Donā€™t Come Around Here No More. Thereā€™s something kinda soulful and blues and funk to it with a rock ballad veneer.

  9. Man, this whole thread is a walk down memory lane. Everythingā€™s been mentioned above but living far from Texas now, I miss all cafeterias. Miss the Turbo Tman. Gattis, Cicis, Panchos, El Fenix (which was maybe a little high end given there was one in Northpark Mall growing up), LJS, Popeyes, Gumbyā€™s (extra ranch), AYCE pepperoni rolls, BOGO CFS on Tuesdaysā€¦ and one I havenā€™t seen above but Souper Salads buffet had all kinds of good shit. Also brings up a fond you-probably-had-to-be-there moment at a Jimā€™s (south congress maybe?) in the middle of the night. Five or six of us staggering inā€¦ Guy 1: Iā€™m gonna eat biscuits and gravy like itā€™s nobodyā€™s business. Guy 2: What does that even mean? Guy 1: I just told you, itā€™s none of your business. 11. Thatā€™s awesome. As an aside (and again, gentlemen, Iā€™m a drummer) but I bought this little mofo when it was Stupid Deal of the Day and I know not what I do. But Iā€™ve always been interested in mandolins. Anyone have any mandolin pron (or at advice)? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. Is this a Gibson black beauty? I have a friend who got one a few years ago (and probably over generalizing what that guitar is) and that thing was a) awesome, and b) heavy as shit. Spoken as a drummer who a) doesnā€™t know shit but lives guitars and b) is in love with a snare drum also named the black beauty. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  15. I have always admired Adeleā€™s voice and style but havenā€™t ever found myself sitting down and choosing to listen to her albums. But holy shit this song. And this performance. Unreal. Thanks for finding that. I love watching great artists in the studio. There are some great videos of the War on Drugs out there (not to derail the thread at all). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Thatā€™s an interesting point. And yeah that it was a lesser known song as a Prince song was part of what we liked (that and then that nothing compared to Prince, etc). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I work in the ad industry (again, cue Bill Hicks) and have licensed countless tracks and been involved in some pretty wild negotiations and conflicts. The only one that I would have bordered on regretting was with the Prince estate (the first licensing of his music ever done). But what we made was kickass and was done as a tribute and then we released the license after it aired. It was a two minute spot for the google pixel phone where we had people all over the country record (on their pixel phones of course) covers of ā€œNothing Compares 2 Uā€ and then we edited it into a music video that we aired (unbranded) on the Grammys right after he died. 18. These brags, they arenā€™t of the most humble variety. That said, if you can sneak in a few guitars AND still have the political capital to get the Porsche, then Godspeed, my friend! In a weird way, I think i could get ā€œpermissionā€ to buy the car more easily than more music shit right now. My wife noticed a CYMBAL lying against the wall BEHIND a drum kit in a room she very rarely goes in and made a comment about ā€œkids, Christmas, etc.ā€ Itā€™s gear-DAR they have. 19. That hi hat clutch cruser linked is a great accessory. One other thought would be ear plugs or sound dampening headphones. Vic Firth makes a great pair of headphones specifically for drummers that I donā€™t think are super expensive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Iā€™ll give it some more thought but maybe a new stick bag or stick holder or some packages of Moon Gels. Thereā€™s also a bunch of cool effects cymbal things - google ā€œstack ringsā€ for example but might be pushing the budget a little. I donā€™t know much about what metal players might want from a sound standpoint. Might be able to get a drum tuner or metronome in that budget range. Maybe a practice pad and stand. And if nothing else drummers love whiskey. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Man, Iā€™d be down to help or support in any way. If things start to percolate, maybe we can be in touch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  23. Nice. I love contrasting bass hoops. Whatā€™s Tommy up to these days? Any chance for a fibes reboot, I wonder? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  25. Yeah the toms are amazing. The floor toms roar. I also have a matching 18ā€ kick and might break it into two kits - one big and one little bop set up. Right now Iā€™m just focused on dialing it in to have a Gadd-like sound but damn if they arenā€™t just a little too ā€œmusicalā€ versus a Yamaha recording custom tom sound, if that makes sense. I also have been playing with upsized cymbals all around and 15ā€ hats and the whole thing is just monster sounding. I also bought a new Yamaha FP9 pedal and that shit is a blast to play. And the snareā€™s the third BB Iā€™ve had - thereā€™s a reason theyā€™re beloved. Iā€™d like to get a vintage nickel-over-brass Supraphonic (see Gadd comment above) and I just sold a maple recording custom 6.5ā€ that I kinda miss already. I may use the 5.5ā€ BB as a semi-piccolo now and again. But all of this is what Reverb was invented for. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
