  1. Oh and the bridge in Thorn In My Pride is the first thing I very played along to that I actually cried while I was playing. It's weird how powerful it was at the time and how clearly I remember every single detail of it - just one random night in the ping pong room of my parents' house probably with a few snuck sips of whiskey, playing it a dozen times or so then finally really just landing on it alongside the recording. It was as great a moment as any else I've had on the drums. And it was all mine.
  2. I love the black crowes. SYMM was out right as I was learning how to be a drummer. Not learning the drums, but how to be a drummer. I was so encouraged by the way Gorman wasn't a "great" drummer. And he never was except for live. Listen to the Fillmore live version of My Morning Song and you'll hear a real good live musician - fuck the tempo, we makin' music, motherfuckers! As an aside, Chris is one of the most confounding musicians I can think of. When he's on it and in it, he might really have the most earnest, soulful voices in music. But goddamn if those moments are just so few and far between. Otherwise he is too often just seeming to flail. Sometimes out of genuine musicianship and soul, sometimes just too contrived. But the album version of Descending from Amorica.... the first three measures he sings are 6 seconds of just maybe the most transcendent performance ever recorded. Not kidding. That first phrase he sings was the very thing that inspired me to create the "post a song that makes you say holy shit" on the old site.
  3. Where dem drums gonna go? Actually, where dem drums?
  4. His stage name is Brendan Fraser. Or Owen Wilson.
  5. How does everyone do it? We used to do the whole list, big shop on a weekend for the whole week. But now with two kids, we literally go to the store 5 times a week. I'm afraid to even look at how much we actually spend are versus what we have in our "budget." We also go to three stores in rotation - whole foods for meat and veggie stuff, Trader Joes for frozen stuff and beer, and Stop and Shop for diapers, paper towels, etc. Is this just because I'm a bad person who can't plan or does everyone shop like that now? I've been working more from home and tend to go morning or mid-day and I've started to recognize the same shoppers over and over. I may just start doing instacart or amazon and say the hell with trips. It's like a part time job.
  6. I also would have cooked the potatoes. (JK, I'd super smash that whole plate)
  7. And all the lx470s, if I recall.
  8. Dynaudio bookshelves and a sub.
  9. Aja is an all time favorite but I celebrate their whole catalog. My daughter goes around the house singing Dirty Work (she's 4). Gaucho is my favorite song but the Gadd and Purdy tracks on Aja are just unlike anything else.
  10. With a Pearl tom the other technique is to lift up with both hands by the sides and toss it right in the dumpster. (just kidding.... My first kit ever was a Pearl export that I loved and wish I still had. That thing took a beating, so to speak)
  11. I'd check one suitcase full of booze. And 5-10 Bibles.
  12. Yeah, I would never have an FJ40 as a daily driver, but I've had an FJ80 that I drove for years - on and off the road - and it was, simply, a perfect automobile (assuming you don't need to go, like, fast). And the 200 series (especially 2016 onward) are just perfect (assuming you don't need, like, extra money).
  13. This is probably my answer too. Me three.
  14. The fuck is he talking about?
  15. Their white bean dip and spicy hummus are amazing. And vegetable spring rolls. And their ginger miso marinated cod. What else am I missing out on?
  16. Well, it is a show about nothing.
  17. For comedies in MY lifetime: Seinfeld Cheers Night Court Newhart (if nothing else for the finale as mentioned above) Honorable mention to Threes Company because of Crissy
  18. Prefer a black pick guard. Pass.
  19. Pro Tip: if you don't have any 9s, go down to Canal around W. Broadway and you get some 7s or 8s.... you can hardly tell the difference. Bring cash.
