  1. My go-to pretty much all year 'round. At home, I actually up the gin and reduce the vermouth so it's like 2-3-1 parts Campari-Gin-vermouth and definitely add some orange bitters. Another variation I made recently is to do 2-1-1 parts Gin-Campari-Grand Marnier. I also used to have a home barrel that I made a big batch in to age for a few weeks. Kinda mellows out the bitterness a little but generally overkill... the key to the drink is it's summery mediterranean-coast Italian simplicity. And there is no such thing as a vodka negroni. There's no such thing as a Grand Marnier negroni either, I suppose, for that matter.
  2. ....but I will need to see this hat.
  3. Newman wouldn't eat broccoli if it was deep fried and covered in chocolate sauce!
  4. Yeah, Carlock is a real badass. And was touring with some heavy hitters at a really early age... anyone who can sit in with Steely Dan AND Toto is something else. One other that hasn't been mentioned yet is Weckl. He hasn't sessioned with "everyone" the way some of these guys has, but he's a monster drummer. I'll never get tired of this: EDIT NOTE: On that clip above, the black drumheads Vinnie plays crack me up. Goes so perfectly with his mullet. EDIT NOTE 2: After watching that clip above for easily the 200th time, I've never been so certain that Gadd is on another planet. Maybe not the technical chops or finesse lots of guys have, but Jesus what a musician.
  5. Those Buddy Rich tantrums are amazing - straight out of another era.
  6. Also, JoJo Mayer's pretty gnarly.
  7. I've played drums more or less for 25 years and I still can't play that shuffle anywhere close to that smoothly and perfectly. There's a reason he always showed up to sessions with his sign, 'You done hired the hit maker."
  8. Steve Gadd, number one with a bullet (for me) Manu Katche Vinny Coliuata Jeff Porcaro Bernard Purdie

    Chills

I started a thread at the old place about "songs that my you say holy shit" but thought I'd amend it over here to be a little more specific to the intent.... really, just points in songs that make you say holy shit, but also maybe what the fuck, and, ultimately, just gives you chills. For me it's usually just tiny little sounds or licks that are just kinda perfect. Here's my first example to get it going: Lots to love about this clip, but there's just a special moment - at 4:30-4:34 where it's the most perfect Leo Kottke lick over Lyle's song. Even Lyle nearly cracks when he hears it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxaAcmoaBsM PS - how do I embed video?
  10. The recipe was for 4-6 people. I had to multiply it for a hundred people..... I GUESS I GOT CONFUSED.
  11. Thanks for asking... my personal philosophy is this: - Queso = pile style - Shredded cheese = individual style For example, at home I'll often do a big batch of chips/bean/cheese and spread across cookie sheet and broil topped with jalapenos. In college, by contrast, I would get the Super Nachos from TC and mash that shit all up into a delicious nacho casserole-like substance.
  12. 2-strike, 2-out Grand Slam is a step in the right direction!
  13. You see Elaine, Billy was a simple country boy. You might say a cockeyed optimist, who got himself mixed up in the high stakes game of world diplomacy and international intrigue.”
  14. My wife grew up there and her mom's still in Kennebunk, so we're there a lot. In town, Allison's is fun as is Bandaloop. Arundel Wharf is good, too. For a nice meal, go to Earth at Hidden Pond - great chef and menu (we got married at Hidden Pond). Old Vines is a nice little wine bar to sit outside. And definitely worth driving to Cape Porpoise to go to the Ramp for some beers downstairs. Also, check out the Colony hotel bar. Never eaten there, but great setting for drinks. Also down the road from there is Mabel's which is a little diner with a great lobster roll - it's where the Bush's used to eat every few days in the summer. Also, if you drive by to see the Bush compound, please don't stop your car in the middle of the road to take pictures/selfies.
  15. Vodka vs. Gin.... only one is a proper martini, sure, but why not have both and make a Vesper.
  16. Not sure why this popped into my head but this was an underrated performance:
  17. Speaking of breakups: "Well, I'm sorry I'm not Brad. I'm me. Pleased to me ya!"
  18. Maybe it's me, but a bowl of some vanilla ice-butter doesn't sound all that bad.
  19. <Secretly, just for a brief moment, closes eyes and tries to visualize whether this could look cool in my living room, maybe spray-painted white; kinda want, but $17.99 seems pretty steep>
  20. 52-80, appreciate the thoughts, but you might want to double check that you're not a Russian bot.
  21. As a dad to a 3.5 yo girl, I'm going to go with 3.5 years old. Requires far more patience than I ever expected to experience in my life. I used to listen to Louis CK talk about making his daughter breakfast and arguing about "Pig Newtons" thinking that was hyperbolic for comedic affect. Nope. That kind of shit happens daily. Newborn/infant was relatively easy once you adjust to having a person who required 24/7 attention.
  22. Gail Stanwyk: Look at her! Would you look at her?! She looks like a hooker! Could you love someone who looked like that!? Fletch: What are you talking about? Of course not! ...five, ten minutes tops, maybe.
