  1. Reading this thread makes me feel like a Handyman savant. But I'm sure whatever disaster '21 has in store for me will involve something I'm incompetent at (lots of possibilities).
  2. I have these, have not tested them though: convert a small tank to large size output https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XQL2RGC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 Convert 5lb and larger tank output to 1 lb type output or fill 1 lb tank w/ 5 lb https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082KB26GK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
  3. I meant either. Edit: at idle it takes longer to come to correct operating temp. Then once it does the oil pres. at idle may be too low (common practice to set idle at 1k rpm for new cam/ifter break in to ensure sufficient oil pressure, for example). Either/ both are our concern, dude. Thank you though.
  4. Don't know if this is still the case but a while back I had an "imcomplete" 2003 f350 that was amberlamps spec and it had a high idle feature that kicked in after a few seconds. But any computer managed cars these days can probably handle it. My understanding is that at idle damage can occur because engine is not up to temp and oil pressure is too low, and I would think any modern car's ECU manages those things sufficiently.
  5. I don't think that is bad for a modern car, though it is not ideal. Probably going to wear out the alternator though. edit: my limited experience with inverters is they don't rate what they say they will. Most cars today are going to have 140 amp or so alternators, so do your math conservatively (maybe you can get 100 amps out of your car then?).
  6. lol. Bobcat. I learned to weld on an old, crank-start only Lincoln DC welder (you might be on my lawn). Unfortunately my dad gifted that to a neighbor of ours a long time ago. Sure wish I still had that thing, nothing welds like an old DC machine.
  7. Hmm if the grid fails in August and you have more than, I dunno, 1,700 sf you're probably pulling more than 15KW. Or maybe not. As for the genset you don't need to buy a Generac kit, you just need the switch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GTZTF4W/?coliid=I2V5OENC7FV2Y5&colid=2TVYNXM23F8RU&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it and an electrician. But you do obv need a gas-powered genset so you can plumb to your nat gas supply (probably want a propane or gasoline backup). That said good sized diesel powered gensets are easy to find and cheap to buy but you don't really see gas powered ones over 7.5kw or so on the used market. csb about 15 years ago my dad lost power at his ranch in SE OK, in July, and we ran the AC separately (off the panel) with our welder and the rest of the panel with our 7kw yanmar. genset /csb geterdone
  8. Your hot water heater should have a hose bib on the bottom, as well as a shut off up top for incoming water/pressure. Remember this if you ever run out of water, you should still have 30 gals or whatever in your water heater. csb Had a leak detected in my slab once by disconnecting service at meter, running hot water through the pipes via (gravity and) a garden hose from the hot water heater back to the meter, and then using thermal heat guns pointed at the floor to find the water line and the leak in the slab. /topical csb
  9. Didn't listen to it but if I were that guy I would change my name and appearance immediately
  10. Right? Did they even ask if it was open ffs?
  11. The door will re-engage itself: leave door closed, operate door opener (from up to down position) and walla
  12. I don't think it does, it seems the issue is that the cold snap just resulted in much more than expected demand. Or maybe not but hey According to this they were surprised by demand to the tune of almost 10MW then lost a bunch of nat gas (and some wind?) gen cap on top of that
  13. ^ Long story but I went north through Dallas around then hauling livestock (freightliner + 45 footer) and my orig. itinerary had me going through around 2-3 AM. Shit went wrong and I was going to go through around 5-6AM and didn't want to go all the way around with my sched and I thought, "well fuck it how bad could it be." HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Never made the 35 to 75 change and had to negotiate surface streets to get to 75. Fuck all of you that were there that morning.
  14. the point I'm making is you elided his mention of waitress and jumped on Amazon driver.
