1. Thanks for the tip. Didn't think the season started yet. Boys (and I) would love this. Would only be able to make the game on 6th if they're still playing
2. Thanks for the recs. The reason we chose downtown is the Marriott marquis, with its big lazy river pool and stuff we can do for downtime with the kids. Plus we stay at a lot of Marriott properties and like to earn points. We were originally going to do Disney that week but not willing to spend my dough on a sub par Disney experience, so we canceled and are last minute planning this trip. I like the idea of the city pass and the minute maid park tour if they're doing it. Boys would enjoy as they're both baseball players. Also very familiar with zoo and Hermann Park as I spent 8 yrs in the med center there, might do that too.
3. Moved from Houston almost 10 years ago to New England. My oldest was born there but hasn't been back since we moved. We're taking a trip in March during rodeo with the 4 kids. Looking for recommendations on stuff to do. My wife and I are already planning on visiting many of our old favorite restaurants, but I know a lot has changed since '12. Kids are currently 10, 8, 6 and 1. We are going to take the kids to the rodeo one day for sure. Gonna do the space center and children's museum. I want to take the oldest 2 boys to a rockets game if I can. Wife wants to take daughter to do some girly stuff, so looking for some fun activities for me and the boys during the day. What restaurants should I try to go to? Will have kids with us for these meals so we aren't looking for the fancy, high end stuff unfortunately. What's the best BBQ these days? Breakfast tacos? Have to get my fill of all the good stuff these Yankees are ignorant of. Staying downtown but have rental minivan, so I can travel (in style). How safe is downtown these days, specifically around discovery green/convention center, to walk around with kids?
4. Anyone see that chick doing horns down and yelling "horns down"? Wtf was that all about?
5. Damn. RIP. Met Chris through a friend and sat with him at a game when I was a recent grad back in the early 00s. Was a nice guy from my limited interaction with him.
6. Getting our shit pushed in by the SEC kind of fun? This team sucks
7. Another season where I've lost interest 5 games in. Never thought NFL would be more appealing than CFB as a Texas grad, but here we are.
8. Bijan has singlehandedly carried this team to victory. Holy shit. Even behind our shitty tattered O Line play.
9. Sure, if you don't have a bunch of pussies on the O line. We have shown nothing today that would have given me confidence in converting that.
10. I'm thinking of purchasing a seasonal rental in a beach town in the northeast. I'd rent it out for the majority of the summer but use it for personal purposes for the allowed time in order to claim rental income and all of the tax breaks that come with it. That is, until some time before retirement when I'll likely tear the entire thing down and make it my summer house. The property I buy will likely need significant upgrades prior to tearing down in a couple of decades. These cottages are mostly built in the 1940s and on, and many are still for the most part original. Anyone have experience in what can be claimed as a tax deduction when doing repairs and renovations to a rental property? For instance, I know by the books that anything that keeps the property in good working order would qualify as a repair... But what about refinishing the floors? Adding proper insulation (and some new walls along with it)? Replacing old appliances? Finishing an attic that is listed as a bedroom by adding built in, walls, insulation etc? Also, any idea how it works with a seasonal rental when you purchase it at the end of the rental season? So if I were to close this fall but not be able to rent it until summer 2022 are there any tax benefits even though I hadn't collected any rental income yet?
11. Mildly entertaining, tried to trick you into thinking gratuitous violence meant it had better content. Yet again DC just can't do it like Marvel can. Very meh. I think that The Boys does it much better with the whole dark superhero shtick.
12. Herman held out because who the hell wanted that dipshit? At least Shaka was a classy guy and other schools obviously feel he might still have something left in him. Herman burned all the bridges.
13. We're gonna lose to a team with a coach who has herpes all over his mouth
14. A 3 point deficit to Abilene Christian is insurmountable for this team
15. I just jumped through too many hoops with Comcast to only realize that their "promotions" are shit. I needed a home phone so was considering a Triple Play bundle - thought was that if I could get internet, phone, plus 200+ channels to stream live without a cable box through their X1 app, it would be as good or probably even cheaper than my current internet + ATT TV streaming app. I was paying about $115/month for internet + HBO Max, and my ATT TV just upped their price of my legacy plan (Go Big package w/ over 200 channels) from $65 to $75. So I was paying about $190 a month and thought Comcast could beat that - wrong. With all the extra fees, the total came out to about $185 a month. So I downgraded to just plain internet for $85/month (400mbs down) and will keep buying HBO Max a la carte (love the Batman the Animated Series, watching them each weekend with my boys and re-living my childhood). I still have the $75/month ATT TV plan but I'm wondering - what's out there that is better or cheaper? I primarily watch for the sports, , local networks (my OTA antenna only picks up CBS/NBC/Fox but not ABC and signal can be spotty), some cable news channels, HGTV, and whatever else my wife rarely watches. Of note, I also have the Hulu/Disney+/ESPN + bundle through Verizon, and I'm a Netflix and Amazon Prime member.
16. Anyone know how Puerto Rico is right now for travel? Looking to book a trip in mid-May just the wife and I to get away. I know you have to get a negative COVID test prior to going, but don't need one to return. Online it says hotels are 50% capacity, restaurants are 30%. We'd be looking to stay at the El San Juan because they have a crazy deal (buy 1 night get 1 free). Anyone stay there recently? I went back in 2009 but it has been renovated and is now managed by Fairmont which usually has nice luxury properties. We were underwhelmed in 2009, it was a bit sketchy then. The renovation was in 2016. PR has direct flights from where we are in the northeast. We just want to chill on the beach and relax. Other option is Florida, for the climate and how relaxed they are about COVID. FYI wife and I are already fully vaccinated, so I DGAF about covid anymore. Gonna live my life.
17. Forgot about that, did that end up being significant at all?
18. It was OK. Not bad, per se, but when the first recommended movie below it when you select this one is Seven, and the trailer gives you a Morgan Freeman-Brad Pitt vibe, you go in with high hopes. Rami Malek is always going to be Freddie Mercury after seeing Bohemian Rhapsody, so it's hard to get into his character. He needs dental work or something or else he won't be able to break away from that role.
19. I "hated" Brady 10 years ago because I was tired of the Pats winning everything and I hated Bill Belichick for similar reasons(I'm a Browns fan). Now I don't understand how you can hate on the guy. He's living the dream, does nothing but win wherever he goes. He is an unapologetic family man, which relates to me with my 4 kids now (versus younger college aged me). He's married to a super model. I'm rooting for him and TB, as are many folks. We all know this league belongs to the likes of Mahomes for the next decade. To see TB12 win another superbowl is witnessing history. Enjoy it, rather than hate on it. The comparison to MJ is stupid. I hated MJ growing up, because he was too good (I was a Cavs fan) and kept winning everything. But in real life he seems like the true asshole, not Tom Brady. Who would I rather meet and hang out with, TB12 or MJ? I can guarantee it would be a more enjoyable time with TB for 99% of the population. Even that last dance documentary made me (and many others) dislike MJ even more. I don't doubt MJ's greatness, but he's a prick.
