Stupid take digs heels in for stupider take

OK so water changes. I read that I should replace about 1/5 of the water each week. To do this I siphon out into a bucket then replace the same amount, but treated with the betta water conditioner? And make sure the temp is the same... How long do I have to wait after putting the conditioner in the new water to add it to the rest of the tank? How good do I have to be about removing all of the junk or bits of food in the gravel when I do this? I try to make sure to remove any food that isn't eaten in 20 minutes but sometimes my daughter feeds the fish and I find pellets at the bottom at a later time. Also I got test strips for the water. If those show good levels do I have to switch out the water as frequently?

Time for another ‘my dog is awesome’ thread
Hornin04 replied to Patricio Swayze's topic in Daily Texan
Well the time has come for hard decisions. My almost 14 year old Maltese Coco has been acting older over the last couple of years. The vet had said she had signs of heart disease in the past year or two, and attributed her cough and wheezing to it. This past weekend she fell down about 15 stairs, stairs that she usually never climbs because they're not carpeted and she slips on them. She had been extra clingy lately which is why she followed me up thy stairs. She got up and walked away like nothing was wrong. But yesterday morning she had a seizure, which she has never had before. Wife took her to the vet and they did xrays, which showed her heart being very enlarged with fluid around it, compressing her trachea, which probably accounts for the chronic coughing. We started her on meds for the heart (ACE inhibitor and diuretic), but today she had 2 more seizures. After the seizure she's a little out of it but otherwise looks normal. I can't help but think the fall is causing the seizures, possibly from some head trauma. But vet attributes it to heart as well (?? wife was there so I couldn't ask questions). No anti seizure meds were offered. Vet basically said consider putting her down soon, as it's a matter of time given how the heart looks. The hard thing is that when she isn't having a seizure she looks like her normal old lady dog self. Isn't acting particularly uncomfortable or as if she's in pain. She has lost a lot of weight and isn't eating well or drinking much, which concerns me since she's now on a diuretic. It's just hard for me to come to grips with putting her down. If she keeps having frequent seizures though it will be hard to just let it go. Luckily only my 5 yo daughter likes her, for whatever reason the older 2 boys never cared for her. I think because she's small and not a really playful dog, and she didn't ever care much for them. She's my adopted dog daughter, my wife had her for about a year and a half before I met her. So before we had kids she was our only child and got way more attention than she has since we had our 3 kids. We've started prepping the 5 yo for what may come, and she doesn't seem too upset when we say Coco is sick and may be going to doggy heaven soon. But I'm not sure she gets that it means she'll be gone forever. Just venting and looking for advice. Pic attached. -
Clip ons are key. I got the deal last year where they threw in the shoes, weights and HR monitor (Thanksgiving weekend) so I kept the stock pedals. Looked into switching to SPD pedals prior to purchase, as shoes with those clips are more abundant, but ended up getting my wife a pair of shoes and LOOK Delta clips for her pair, which she has since used all of one time.

OK I'm wrong, but it's confusing on their part. When I log in, it says I'm subscribed to the Go Big package that's no longer offered, and when you view packages it lists that one as $85. But when I go to my billing it shows that I'm only paying $60/month + tax. So I feel better about it - getting more channels (that I don't watch) plus HBO (that I do watch) for cheaper than other streaming services. But I'm still in a spot where I don't get NFL network and have no option for redzone. Wish I could get an add on for football season that has it doesn't make sense that a service formerly called directv now doesn't offer it. Also no longhorn network, but I have a log in for ESPN app that worked well to stream it this past weekend. Also an HBO question - does HBO Go exist anymore or did HBO Max replace it? I'm getting the impression that I have to pay extra for HBO Max if I want it, but how do I stream regular hbo shows now like I used to with my provider credentials on my fire TV?

Just PR'd with Olivia (looks-wise my fave) live this morning and got a shout out for ride #200 (check the 32:50 mark). Pretty intense ride, like hers usually are. Oh and my 200 rides are all legit for the most part, none of those nonsense warm-ups or cool downs to inflate my numbers (when I hear a "Happy 5,250 DoucheRider!" shout out I rage a little bit inside). Why don't we have a hashtag for folks on this board? Just created #SurlyHorns if any of you degenerates want to ride along.

I have it... But it's not 65 anymore. It's 85. And I think HBO max was just a promo, no? I've had the go big plan since directv now came out and the plan was 35/month. Debating ending it and finding something else that includes NFL. Strange that the former directv app doesn't have it included.

Well that was quick. Wtf. Dead in 2 days. Going back to petco for their 30 day replacement guarantee. Never ate once despite giving food twice a day and removing if not eaten. Water temp was low 70s but mini heater is arriving today and I read that they are supposedly hearty fish, didn't think a temp in 70s would do it. I think I just got a defective fish. Do I have to clean out the entire tank and Retreat some fresh water before putting a new fish in? Sent from my SM-N986U1 using Tapatalk

Just bought my 5 yo daughter a fish. We promised her a hermit crab when she insisted on bringing home a regular crab she caught at the beach this summer. When I quickly Googled hermit crab care I nixed that and talked her into a betta, which is supposedly easy to take care of. I briefly owned some goldfish that probably died within a week when I was a kid, and that's the extent of my experience with fish. So I picked up a 1.6 gallon Aqueon tank with a filter and light, some hot pink pebbles and girly silk plants (her picks), some betta water conditoner and a pretty little pink and purple betta male that she promptly named Snuggles at the pet store today. Daughter was thrilled with the setup. We watched a YouTube video by some obnoxious teen on how to introduce the betta to its new home. I set the cup in the water to acclimate it for 20 minutes. Then I scooped him out and put him in his new digs. We all squealed with excitement as he zipped around to explore his new tank. Then my daughter began screaming in horror as he flipped belly up and sank to the bottom of the tank. Luckily he snapped out of it after a couple of minutes and seemed to be OK, swimming around the tank. I guess he was in shock? Temperature difference? Tank water seemed a little warmer than his cup. He didn't want to touch the few betta food pellets we put in there, so I fished them out because I read it's not good to leave it in there. Anyhow, now I need to know what to do to make sure this thing doesn't die right away because my daughter loves her first pet that's "only hers." Do I keep retrying to introduce food until he starts eating it after a few minutes or leave it floating for a while? Also I think I need a thermometer because I read they like Temps in the high 70s. And do I get a heater? Our house is usually between 68 and 70 degrees, and in the winter some rooms get chilly. The Aqueon mini heater seems to heat up too much per Amazon reviews. And I'm supposed to siphon off 20% of the water each week and reintroduce more fresh water? Anything I'm missing? Any cheap gear I need? Thanks Sent from my SM-N986U1 using Tapatalk

Looking for new streaming option. I signed up for the "Go Big" package on DirecTV Now back when it first came out, it was like $35/month. Over time they've gradually upped the price (now up to $85/month, which they want me to appreciate because it's a package with 105 channels that isn't offered anymore and includes HBO). Compared to their $80 Max package, I am getting quite a few more channels, but I don't get LHN or NFL network. Also don't get Boomerang, which the kids like for cartoons. It looks like for Youtube TV I'd be paying at least $65 for something comparable (10 fewer channels but I don't even watch 80 of the 105 I get now), without HBO but WITH the NFL. I don't think I get LHN up here, but I can stream that on ESPN app. Bonus would be getting Redzone on a month-to-month basis during NFL season w/ Youtube. I primarily watch sports channels, the local networks, major news networks, and kids programming (but now they mostly stream netflix, disney +, hulu, which we have).

I just switched my cell provider from Sprint/T-mobile to Verizon, which is the best in our neighborhood. I get a signal on 1st and 2nd floor, basement is a no-go. So if I'm in basement, I'm unreachable (workout room down there, tv, kids playroom). No telling what carriers our babysitters will have in future. Won't be a primary use phone so a little lag is no big deal. Just need bare bones functionality and ability to place a handset on each floor.

Wife is insisting on getting a home phone line because neither of us have great cell phone reception in our house. We have had issues contacting babysitters in the past while out, and now that our kids are distance learning with a teacher she's panicked that she'll be unable to reach someone in an emergency. I have Xfinity internet but their "triple play" option is overkill. I stream everything and don't need physical TV boxes or channels etc, and phone packages only come with TV and internet bundled. I've been looking into home VoIP options but most reviews seem to be at least 4 years old. The Ooma Telo seems like a good option from what I've read. We have a UPS that backs up all our router/modem/home networking hardware as well as a whole house generator that kicks in within 30 seconds of a power outage, so I realize that VoIP is limited if power goes out, but as long as our cable internet is running we shouldn't have interruptions of service. Any recommendations? Sent from my SM-N986U1 using Tapatalk

Help me back up 10k photos/videos from a micro SD card
Hornin04 replied to Hornin04's topic in Can You Help Me With This?
OK so I'm having a harder time with this than I think I should. I put my micro SD card into the port on my Surface Pro 4. It can read all the files and I can see the photos and videos just fine. I got this new Samsung Portable SSD T7 500GB in the mail today. I plug it into the USB port on the Surface Pro 4. I set it up, created folders for transfer, etc. So I drag and drop the files - chunks of them transfer, but all of a sudden the transfer speed slows down to a crawl then it freezes for a while. Then it gives me this message: "request could not be completed because of an i/o device error " and lists the specific file it can't transfer. So I have to skip that individual file, and sometimes it moves on and completes the transfer, other times it freezes so long that nothing can get done. I researched it and made sure to download the latest drivers for the USB external storage device through Windows, tried different cables thinking maybe the USB 3.2 cable included with the new SSD was not compatible with my older Surface pro 4 regular USB 3 port, but it keeps happening. Any ideas as to what to do? Is this SSD too "new" to work well with my older Surface Pro 4? Is the SSD defective? Should I try the older HDD that I ordered (arrives in like 4 days) instead? In the meantime I just decided to back up the old photos and videos from my note 8 to the Note 20 using Samsung Smart Switch - luckily it is a smooth process between Samsung phones and gives the option to transfer all media from the SD card over to the internal storage on the new phone. I might then try plugging the SSD into my note 20 ultra and seeing if I can transfer the files to the SSD that way without issue. What a fucking headache. -

Help me back up 10k photos/videos from a micro SD card
Hornin04 replied to Hornin04's topic in Can You Help Me With This?
Not japanese. Basically they are photos dating back to 2011, and in that time I've had 3 kids. That's explanation enough. So I just got this on Amazon and it will arrive tomorrow: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0874XJL6M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_XWrsFbQ2F2YVX But this is the one that's already being shipped : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F5LVTO4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_RVrsFb2PN43B7 From what I've read the Samsung is very quick for transferring and the ssd is less likely to fail. Obviously less storage for my dollar but I'd probably not even fill half of the 500gb with what I have to transfer now. Thoughts? Sent from my SM-N986U1 using Tapatalk -
Help me back up 10k photos/videos from a micro SD card
Hornin04 replied to Hornin04's topic in Can You Help Me With This?
Well I'll be damned. How have I owned this thing for about five years and I'm just now seeing a Micro SD slot? This is the magic of surly. Thanks. Much better idea than the poorly rated HDD I ordered. Sent from my SM-N986U1 using Tapatalk -
So I got in the habit of backing up my cell phone camera photos and videos from the phone to a 128gb micro SD card on my original Galaxy Note 4, then carried that same SD card over to my Galaxy Note 8 and continued to do the same. Part of the problem was that I only had 64 gigs of internal storage space in those phones, so I had to remove the photos and videos or the phone wouldn't work. I upgraded to the new Note 20 ultra and said F that shit, never again and I have 512 gigs of internal storage as well as an expandable micro SD slot. Prior to migrating to the new phone I had moved about 100gb of photos and videos to the micro SD card. All of these are backed up to Google photos, but I've always felt that I should have a physical backup as well. The initial plan was to move the micro SD card to the new phone, but when I insert it the phone gives me a message that I have to format the card, which I obviously don't want to do. I decided I wanted to put everything on a portable hard drive and researched some that had built in SD card slots. I have a WD My Passport wireless pro 2TB HDD on the way that I snagged for about 100 bucks but now I'm reading that it's not necessarily the best option. I picked it because I thought transfer would be easier just putting the card into the HDD, and because my surface pro 4 laptop only has one USB port. What is the easiest and best way to back up these photos with a hard copy? Leave them on an SD card? SSD instead of HDD? Flash USB sticks? I'm contemplating putting the 100gb from the micro SD onto the internal storage of my new Note 20 ultra and then transferring from there to a newer larger micro SD in the same phone, but that transfer process will take hours. Suggestions? Sent from my SM-N986U1 using Tapatalk

Ordered my peloton after last Thanksgiving. In past 8 months I've done about 175 rides, mainly 30-45 min, and over 100 strength training workouts along with about 25 runs and a few other Cardio workouts. I love it and find it highly motivating. I had never gone to a spin class in my life and used to hate exercise bikes. I sweat more during my rides than I do running or any other Cardio routine. It works well if you're motivated to work hard - I usually try to do higher resistance than the range suggested, and try to beat my own and friends' PR's. If you're not a motivated person or if you get one and are content to loaf along at the lower end of recommended resistance/pace then you might not get the results you want. I frequently see people who have done hundreds of workouts and like to post about it on social media yet they're still unhealthy and out of shape looking. Then you look at their outputs and realize they are burning the same amount of calories in 30 minutes that you do in 5-10 and you understand why. That and the folks who ride a lot but don't modify their eating habits, etc I wish they'd incorporate some weight lifting workouts with a bench, since I own one, but their weight routines are pretty good. Back before the pandemic hit I even went to NYC and rode live with Alex for my 50th and got a shout out. Check me out on January 25th club bangers wearing the white Longhorn t-shirt to the left of Alex in the mirror!
