  1. What's the functional difference between a tampon and medical gauze used to plug a wound? I've taken out an awful lot of bullet wound dressings that were just gauze shoved into the hole wrapped with tape/more gauze. Obv neither stops bleeding without being specialized quick-clotting fabric, but that usage is what I was getting at, and it seems better than nothing? Your last sentence is tragic, but until things substantially change in this country, very true. There does need to be more specialized education and supplies available to students.
  2. You go out with your back on the mat putting others over.
  3. An awful fact, but true
  4. Gerry Duggan owns hahahaha.
  5. Were they actually going to show up, though, with Biden at the top? Not all of them I bet
  6. This is their best course of action.
  7. No, from your perspective, what would a pro-genocide platform from Harris look like? One where you couldn't vote for her.
  8. What does that even mean? What is a pro-genocide platform from Harris?
  9. They're fairly horny.
  10. UAW speech begins around 15:20
  11. Lawrence O'Donnell spent about 24 minutes last night castigating the difference in treatment Trump gets from the press versus the Harris campaign. And then showed her UAW remarks in full, as no network covered it live, even though they all covered Trump's "press conference." The UAW stuff is def worth a watch at least.
  12. Of all the many remarkable Italians throughout history, so many Italian conservatives are weirdly wrapped up in idolizing a real piece of shit slaver and rapist. Oh I guess that tracks..
  13. Fuck that's still so embarrassing like literally what in the hell is wrong with me
  14. Y'all have no idea how many queer social workers there are in Texas throughout various governmental and private organizations. They're probably the only thing holding the fucking child welfare system in all of its parts together.
  15. Social worker, ski instructor, vegetarian, most of the outfits I've seen her in so far (tho to be sure, some of that is just Midwest chic to begin with), and just her general overall vibe. I know six people who are either lesbians or bisexual who are: a social worker, a yoga instructor, and vegetarian. Boxes were checked off, okay?
  16. Were you under the impression that I was demanding she come out? Were you under the impression that I thought she was going to be living in the White House? I'm not expecting her to give speeches or anything like that. Out and open existence is in itself important. If who she loves and dates is never made public knowledge, I will lose no sleep. But, if she chooses to make that knowledge public, and she is in-fact bi or gay or whatever variation of not-straight she might be, that would be really cool. That's all I was getting at. Yes, I was unaware of Emma Emhoff's entire existence. I think this may be the first time "Emma Emhoff" has ever appeared on Surly. I must confess I have paid almost no attention to the Second Gentleman, beyond being aware of his advocacy for reproductive rights, so I've paid even less attention to the rest of his family, like most of America. I appreciate you informing me! That's rad as fuck. But you're being a dick about this.
  17. Also, she's 23 years old. She's not a kid. She seems like a great young woman.
  18. Obviously it's none of my business who she sleeps with, just like it's none of anyone's business who anyone sleeps with. I would certainly never just ask her. 🙄 But an openly queer kid of a major political figure would be huge for every terrified queer kid in a state that is threatening their right to exist, not just young girls in general. So yeah, it'd be really fucking cool if she is some flavor of the rainbow, but if it's never addressed that's also whatever.
  19. Representation matters, gtfo
  20. I'mma just roll with it.
  21. Hope is giving very strong bi vibes, and I'm here for it. Gay up the campaign (obv not too much for the normies). eta: tho my recent gaydar history is not great
  22. That's just being a regular working person in America.
  23. At this point in America, what's the functional difference?
