  1. @Js1, you got those PA daily drops yet?
  2. If you have 5 more apples than I do, and I take away 3 of your apples, who has more apples?
  3. Brennan and Casey Thompson on Saturday
  4. For a longer version, read The Ice at the End of the World, by Jon Gertner.
  5. The last couple of months have been fun, but I'm getting tired of the uncertainty. Either way, I'm ready to find out if democracy is temporarily saved or if it's time to throw in the towel. This shit is exhausting.
  6. I believe it shows how many ballots are returned by each group D/R/I. And Ds outnumbered Rs by 30k
  7. Mild compared to recent summers. Still technically warmer than average historically
  8. In the midst of never-ending Austin summers, I've definitely have had the thought that inland North Carolina would be a good place to relocate. https://www.npr.org/2024/10/09/nx-s1-5137024/climate-haven-hurricane-helene-asheville
  9. It's incredible that these things that weigh less than an ounce cross the Gulf of Mexico without stopping, overnight, twice a year. OK, I'll stop. Back to the hurricane.
  10. My 2 year-old had 3 surgeries (for the same, minor thing) between 2 and 6 months. Fortunately, my wife is a greenspoint nurse and knew all the surgeons and anesthesia providers who would possibly be involved in his care. It was super stressful, but the issue did get resolved without any negative consequences. I get that a 5 year-old is a little different than an infant in that they'll be recognizing to some degree what is going on, but they are quite a bit more resilient than newborns. Generally speaking, the people taking care of your child work exclusively, or nearly exclusively with children and tend to care a bit more in my experience than your average adult provider. Good luck. It's not fun, but having that problem behind you will be a relief.
  11. I think the migrants are smart enough to not fly right into the storm. You can use live radar (birdcast.info) to see where they're moving and basically nothing is passing through Florida at the moment, nor are they expected to tonight. But I guess you are right in that the little guys staging to cross the Gulf that are already in Florida might be in a bit of trouble.
  12. When Harvey hit, there were a bunch of frigatebirds and all sorts of coastal/oceanic terns being seen at Lake Travis and Walter E Long Lake. There will be a bunch of stuff you never see from land being pushed right across the entire state of Florida.
  13. Last night, I got us into a car crash and tried to cover her up with dirt when someone came to investigate. Fortunately, I was with the toddler while she was with the newborn, so she had cooled off by the time I heard of my misdeeds an hour after she woke up. Close call.
  14. They know I'm smarter and at least as informed as they imagine themselves to be. They're probably more confused than disappointed, wondering how they produced 3 liberal atheists.
  15. I've been leaving this on the coffee table any time my parents come over to babysit. Certainly they've opened it out of curiosity by now.
  16. Pressing more than one button is hard. Learning about why you would press other buttons is even harder.
  17. I don't know if Las Vegas is safe, but it's not about to be 10 feet underwater.
  18. Your vibes are far more immaculate than Bozo's.
  19. But Tuesday's forecast is 81/56!
  20. October 13 looking to be a near record-setter at 96 degrees.
  21. It is a voodoo thing. I just had to come back to Austin 3 years ago to end your curse. Things were looking great when I left in 2010.
  22. I knew Arizona was crazy, but that 60 minutes segment was fucking nuts. And the people these crazy Rs flock to and follow are such pathetic nobodys.
  23. No need to explain. We'd be surprised if you of all people didn't drink raw milk. In fact, I'd be somewhat shocked if you didn't regularly partake in chicken tartare.
  24. My first son was born summer '22, and we all know how that game turned out. My 2nd son was born last Thursday. I'm guessing 98-0.
  25. That's nice and all, but I'm going to need to see some highs that begin with 8 and lows that begin with 5 before I enjoy anything outside, thank you very much. Well, maybe I'll enjoy the mornings, but begrudgingly so.
