  1. You said it. Good fund for sideways or bear market. V likely to lag badly in any bull market. My preference has been a combination of PDI (nice cash flow yield) and tax advantaged funds from Blackrock and PIMCO. My money market pays almost as much as CDs do and it’s completely liquid, so I keep about a year of funds in there. I think the main fear with PDI is ROC but they are very well managed with a long track record. A 12 percent yield is hard to find anywhere else.
  2. One depressing book. Worth reading for insight into the modern Russian soldier. Horrible stuff.
  3. Russian or Ukrainian cam girls? On or off topic?
  4. It’s funny because Elron is supposed to be a tech savant and the fucking dog guys from Ukraine hacked him. But not funny because he’ll probably cancel star link to teach them a lesson.
  5. In line at the DMV for registration?
  6. All eggcitement aside, this OPEC play is pretty predictable. They’re betting on the timing for China to start increasing demand to drive prices with a six or nine month cushion. Plus, the US SPR is not in a position to release and cushion prices. Looks like inflation is still on the menu boss.
  7. Bump. Just heard from friends in Travis Country they are selling and moving to Vermont. Out of my friend group about half has left Texas at this point. Wild.
  8. In this thread, a bunch of people telling is why the top ten places people move are shitholes. San Jose is pretty lame but well situated. Easy access to almost anywhere, decent weather, close to the coast and mountains. But the town is boring. All the other cities on that list make total sense. And I wouldn’t live in any of them today but I can see why a lot of people would. Especially young people with the means to live there.
  9. They’re not supposed to, but they do anyway. They’ll find a way to use transportation impacts to slow it anyway but should make for entertainment.
  10. How many school shootings since Dunblane in the UK? It can be done. It just won’t be.
  11. Interesting bill that affects my business coming up Monday - removing all county ability to regulate lot sizes and city outside their zoning jurisdiction. Going to be wild if it passes. SB 2037.
  12. I think this has transitioned from proxy war to one step away from conventional war. With NATO up in his grill and Ukraine about to mount a major offensive, expect something wild soon.
  13. I believe he was indicated. Minor spelling mistake.
  14. You just made the list brother. I love the evolution of a thread from somewhat serious to a fistfight to why can’t we get along. And my favorite post was the guy complaining about the topic after clicking on it.
  15. She’s probably in search of Madeleines to eat.
  16. Lol the opinion page of the WSJ has been batshit insane for a long time. I skip it. The rest of the paper is good and I’m a long time subscriber, let it lapse briefly a few years ago and found I couldn’t do without the news.
  17. Coming to this late as is my wont to do. My dad taught me how to shoot as a kid. I’ve never cared to hunt, was not my thing and I don’t like deer meat anyway. I’m a big dude so I don’t feel like I need a gun to feel safe, but my philosophy has always been toward de escalation. I bought a shotgun at my wife’s request at the start of covid and it stayed in its wrapping until I gave it as a gift to a friend who is a serious gun collector when I moved from Texas. The statistics around guns in homes with kids are scary and should give people pause. Everyone thinks they are the responsible gun owner, but my experience around gun owners has been pretty mixed. The guy I gave the shotgun to is one of the most trustworthy people I’ve ever known and I have no doubt if all gun owners were like John we’d have nothing to fear. But they aren’t. A lot of them are shitty people, but unlike shitty people without guns, they can do a lot of harm. Long story short it doesn’t matter, there are so many guns out there you just assume whoever you’re dealing with is strapped.
