Can we talk about the public flogging of Fani Willis…
Reality Check replied to Satchel's topic in Cloak Room
1. It's your opinion that Trump was the worst POTUS; 79 million people disagree. 2. So your argument is the anomaly in voting totals -- 100,000 more ballots cast for Biden than there were for any other candidate in Fulton County history -- should absolutely not be questioned? 3. Does the Atlanta Journal-Constitution confirming that 200 ballots were initially run through the scanners twice eliminate all possibility of erroneous tabulation, and therefore challenges to the election through the judicial and legislative branches of state government -- such as what occurred in 2000 -- are an unreasonable or somehow criminal pursuit? "Digital ballot images made public under Georgia’s new voting law show nearly 200 ballots — including one for West — that election officials initially scanned two times last fall before a recount. There’s no indication any vote for president was counted more than once in official results." Search for election fraud in Georgia finds 200 ballots scanned twice (ajc.com) 4. If we're going to throw people in prison because they use the legislative branch and judicial branch to challenge questionable conduct in an election, then we truly have no Constitution and we truly have no country.- 423 replies

Can we talk about the public flogging of Fani Willis…

Not according to the transcript. Regardless of whether he was right or was wrong, Donald Trump acted within his rights as a citizen to bring his concerns to the appropriate government officials. This includes his phone call to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. Trump, Mark Meadows and others stated their case throughout the phone call that there were multiple areas of reported voter fraud that Raffensperger could investigate, and encouraged him to do so. He never asked Raffensberger to create a fraudulent result of the vote; instead, he asked for a detailed analysis of signatures on absentee ballots and other lawful measures that would result in a disqualification of what he had been told were fraudulent ballots. Again, that is exactly the kind of conduct the First Amendment specifically protects. TRUMP: “But Brad, if you took the minimum numbers where many, many times above the 11,779, and many of those numbers are certified, or they will be certified, but they are certified. And those are numbers that are there, that exist. And that beat the margin of loss, they beat it, I mean, by a lot. And people should be happy to have an accurate count instead of an election where there’s turmoil.” MEADOWS: So, Mr. President, if I might be able to jump in, and I’ll give Brad a chance. Mr. Secretary, obviously there is, there are allegations where we believe that not every vote or fair vote and legal vote was counted, and that’s at odds with the representation from the secretary of state’s office. What I’m hopeful for is there some way that we can, we can find some kind of agreement to look at this a little bit more fully? You know the president mentioned Fulton County. TRUMP: Okay, whatever, it’s a disaster. It’s a disaster. Look. Here’s the problem. We can go through signature verification, and we’ll find hundreds of thousands of signatures, if you let us do it. And the only way you can do it, as you know, is to go to the past. But you didn’t do that in Cobb County. You just looked at one page compared to another. The only way you can do a signature verification is go from the one that signed it on November whatever, recently, and compare it to two years ago, four years ago, six years ago, you know, or even one. And you’ll find that you have many different signatures. But in Fulton, where they dumped ballots, you will find that you have many that aren’t even signed and you have many that are forgeries. Okay, you know that. You know that. You have no doubt about that. And you will find you will be at 11,779 within minutes because Fulton County is totally corrupt, and so is she totally corrupt. https://www.11alive.com/article/news/nation-world/full-text-transcript-of-president-trump-call-with-georgia-sec-of-state/507-776ec762-22fe-438f-948c-96a9d52257eb- 423 replies

You believe there was no voter fraud in Fulton County. That's fine. I'm not going to change your mind no mad how many negative reputation points you throw at me. But if you want a truthful, honest discussion, I and hundreds of thousands of other Americans believe these numbers are suspicious and deserve additional inquiry. Fulton County vote totals 2008 405,000 with 272,000 for Obama 2012 398,000 with 255,000 for Obama 2016 430,000 with 297,000 for Clinton 2018 424,000 with 307,000 for Abrams 2020 524,000 with 380,000 for Biden 2022 417,000 with 289,000 for Abrams Additional inquiry is what Trump sought through legislative and judicial relief, which he was ultimately denied. Nevertheless, his efforts to seek that relief are protected by the First Amendment's ability to petition the government for a redress of grievances, as it was in 2018 for Stacy Abrams, in 2000 for Al Gore, and in 1946-7 for the three gubernatorial candidates in Hawaii.- 423 replies

They abandoned that law after the Georgia Supreme Court ruling and created a new law/entity — signed into law this week — that removes the state court from being involved in the commission’s reviews and dismissals. Yes, the new law will likely be tied up in courts as well, but the likelihood of Judge McAfee putting DT on trial if the state commission has moved to remove Willis from office is pretty slim. https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/4534278-kemp-georgia-sanctions-panel-willis-prosecution-trump/ -

I read all 23 pages and think McAfee did a great job of explaining what the limited case history in Georgia allows him to do and acting within those parameters. It’s a very thoughtful and well-researched ruling. I think getting rid of Wade was probably essential because of the perception of a conflict. The sad thing is this should have been anticipated by Willis and Wade and when the whole matter was brought up he should have recused himself. The ignorance and arrogance to fabricate the “affair didn’t start until 2022” lie and she paid him in cash just dumped buckets of blood in the water for the sharks. Also, it brought Wade’s perjury in his interrogatories and abuse of the IOLTA into public light. He’s likely going to have to find another way to earn money for a few years without a bar card. Finally, McAfee took her to task for her unprofessional conduct in court. The big question now is does McAfee authorize the appeal of his decision before or after the trial. Not only do I believe he will — given the state’s expectation that this will take up two to three months of the court’s time for three trials, but because he’s crafted a connect the dots outline of his findings for the appellate court to finish the picture and disqualify Willis and the Fulton County DA’s office. -

She’s made herself the primary target for the state senate’s new DA Removal Task Force signed into law this week by Gov. Kemp. Not sure how quickly anything can get done in the legislature, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s gone — stemming from allegations of this affair, perjury, not prosecuting BLM protesters, and using the Feds’ anti-gang grant as a personal slush fund (whistleblowers’ claims) — before this ever goes to trial.- 423 replies

But will he come over between the hours of 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. so you can cram his pipes into your drains? -
No, that's not what I was doing. I was told that "fan engagement/attendance" was NEVER in the history of Texas basketball what it was under Chris Beard. Then I pointed out that in 2008 Texas had four consecutive sellouts cheering on a team that made the Elite Eight. But apparently the only things those fans cared about were the American Airlines halfcourt shot and/or when the Rudy's balloon dropped $2 coupons. They certainly weren't there to cheer for the basketball team, because Chris Beard was using his magical Pixie Dust in Lubbock with Bobby Knight then.
-
Depends on what his AdjD is in the KenPom ratings.
-
Exactly -- it's the same with Rodney Terry as it was with Chris Beard. The women's crowd vs. Kansas State was exceptional. But my point -- which you just made -- is that it's about the Moody Center, not Chris Beard. Chris Beard is NOT responsible for the Moody Center being constructed.
-
So now you've abandoned using metrics to measure "atmosphere and fan interest" even though fan interest is directly reflected by attendance. You've also conceded that the arenas are responsible for the difference. So that means it's not Chris Beard. I've been out of state/traveling a great deal but I did make it to the Texas-Oklahoma State game this month, my first men's game in the Moody Center. It's certainly an improvement in terms of atmosphere over the Erwin Center -- anybody with an iota of common sense or objectivity would agree. That was specifically what the arena was made for. But the difference would be identical with any winning team -- again, it's not like Chris Beard had some magical pixie dust to sprinkle over Texas basketball fans. They'll always come out to see and support a winning team. As bad as Gregory Gym was, it could draw a packed house when the team was worth watching.
-
I’ve got no problem with that. America’s Defense Department should be protecting America and its direct economic interests — NATO, Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea. It could effectively do so with 1/4th its current budget. Maybe less.
-
But I bet the atmosphere and fan interest in Ole Miss basketball is light years ahead of where it’s ever been in the entire history of the program.
-
-
Four-straight home sellouts to watch the Big XII Champion Texas team that earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament and went to the Elite Eight in 2008 is just nothing like Texas basketball ever experienced until Chris Beard showed up to go 22-12 (10-8 Big 12) and win a first-round NCAA Tournament game.
-
Unless you, you know, look at actual attendance figures.
-
In Texas’ second season in the Frank Erwin Center, the Longhorns finished fourth in the nation in average attendance with a 15,885 fans per game average. UT’s 6,737 fans per game increase from 1978 to 1979 was the largest in the country. Top Five Single-Season Average Attendance Avg. Year Home Dates Total Attendance Home Record 15,886 ______ 1978-79 _______ 14 _____________ 222,400 _________________ 13-1 14,629 ______ 2009-10 _______ 17 _____________ 248,697 _________________ 15-2 13,911 ______ 1996-97 _______ 13 _____________ 180,845 _________________ 12-1 13,815 ______ 2007-08 _______ 18 _____________ 248,673 _________________ 17-1 13,669 ______ 2010-11 _______ 18 _____________ 246,044 _________________ 16-2 Again, the guy improved off a shitty product offered by Shaka Smart. He didn't do anything that had not been done before.
-
Again, Shaka Smart put a shitty product on the floor. ShadowOp's argument is that Texas fans have never supported basketball and that somehow Chris Beard's pixie dust changed 118 years of history. That's flat out not true. Additionally, Beard's arrival coincided with the opening of the Moody Center, which was specifically designed to improve fan engagement, which it has.
-
Beard improved the product over what Shaka Smart had offered. He wasn't a miracle worker entering the enchanted land of fandom by waving a wand and sprinkling some magic fairy dust over the UT alumni and student body to wake us up after 118 years of not being aware that Texas had a basketball team.
-
The Abe Lemons years were equally as raucous, though not noted because of the cavernous Erwin Center. His post-game fetes at the Red Tomato were the hottest ticket in town. If a single sellout is your barometer for changing the culture, then the same thing happened for the Texas-Texas A&M game in Spring 1985. Credit Bob Weltlich for that one. The Erwin Center was regularly sold out for conference games in the early Penders years. And -- even though to fans in the mezzanine it looked like 10 Ken dolls fighting for a peanut -- they were loud if something exciting happened. The sold-out student section stormed the court against Iowa State in an early-2000s win courtesy of Rick Barnes. Again, you can't claim Chris Beard changed the culture when the pattern is the same -- half-empty Moody Center in November and December, packed house for conference games now that the team is good. The only difference between now and 1990 is the university has a basketball arena instead of a multi-purpose center that was LITERALLY designed more to accommodate for a Ringling Bros. circus (the tunnel entrance had to be large enough for elephants) than college basketball.
-
Sandy Berger -- in 2003 -- stole and destroyed documents when he went into the National Archives related to the Clinton Administration and its poor decision making that facilitated 9/11 . He was more than happy to fall on his sword to ensure there could be no blame for Bill Clinton and, subsequently, preserve Hillary's political future.
-
Again, I'm not sure how Beard gets credit for the UT Regents decision to blow up the Erwin Center and build a new facility for basketball, but you keep doing you.
-
At least Beard had such a stellar coaching resume that he was able to deflect any responsibility from himself and throw his players under the bus after they blew a 20-point lead and lost to TCU in their first-round Big 12 tournament game two years ago. You know -- shredded their dignity so they'd be ready to focus on reaching the Sweet 16 the next weekend. “I think we’ve got a bunch of guys that think they have the answers, but they really don’t,” Beard said. These people should be getting every penny that's spent on "climate science." They're actually positively impacting the reality of man's impact on world we live in. imagine what they could do with double or triple their budget. https://theoceancleanup.com/
