  1. Yup. Droughts end in floods, same as it ever was. There will be a time when LT is sitting at 685 and nobody will believe it was 630 just _____ months ago. But the cycle is almost certain to lengthen and the amount of time spent below 670 will become greater and greater, over time. _______
  2. "I know one ag that told me Michigan has been gutted, they lost their coach and many of their top players, and that necessarily implies they'll be terrible this year and if Texas doesn't win it'll be an embarrassment for the entire UT program. And during the next sentence he told me that the ags were going to be much improved, despite losing pretty much their entire coaching staff, and many of their top players. Same as Michigan. And yet different. I didn't bother to respond.
  3. I'd just like to point out that I'm not part of the argument about whether or not "rain bomb" is a stupid or annoying phrase, I don't care one way or the other. I'm simply commenting that the first time I ever heard it used was about the Marble Falls rain event in 2007, and that it was not used regarding the Memorial Day flood of 1981, at the time of that event. You know, for the record.
  4. So basically he's saying... Well, no kidding.
  5. Trattoria Lisina is good and the setting is great for a date night. It's another restaurant from the Mandola's folks.
  6. I spent half a day helping sandbag my friend's house that backed up to Shoal Creek, and I spent almost the entire next day helping them pump/sweep/shovel out all of the water and sludge that burst past our sad sandbagging efforts. Ain't nobody ever said the words "rain bomb" in May 1981.
  7. Yup the 2007 Marble Falls event was the first time I ever remember hearing the term.
  8. Yeah I like the slant-back soft top better than the square one. That's what I put on my Jeep.
  9. You're right about that. I doubt they'll have a 2-meat plate for that very reason. I'm anticipating a "tasting menu" that will have "small plates" of various smoked meats. A fancy small plate of brisket for $10 sounds a lot better than $80/lb, nevermind that you're only getting 2 oz of meat...
  10. I'm assuming they'll be able to bleed it down over time by releasing waters downstream? How long might that take? And do they generate hydroelectric from the Waco dam?
  11. Also, I'm a little surprised it's so difficult to do the swap. I think Bestop makes the OEM soft tops for both Jeep and Bronco, and on our Jeep it's super-easy to swap back and forth. I can do it in bout 15 minutes at this point, and all hardware was included with the soft top (that I bought after-market but it's the same as what Jeep will sell you straight from the factory). I assume that as the Bronco platform matures, more of this stuff will end up plug and play, as it is with the Jeeps.
  12. Looks good. Now pop those doors off and snap a pic.
  13. Buchanan will get some upward movement from this. These are the kinds of streamflow numbers you need to see in the watershed to make a dent in the lake levels.
  14. Every time they smash into one another, I just can't help but think of the hundreds of thousands of dollars coming out of private pockets. They can afford it, I guess, but nevertheless it causes me great pain and consternation on their behalf.
  15. Absolute best thread on the surl right now. Again with the anti-engineering hate speech? You can not oppress my people. We will survive. We will THRIVE.
  16. WTH? As an engineer, I feel threatened. What do they want with me, and my people?
  17. Old Austin died when the Lakeview Cafe moved down to become the Lodge at Lakeview.
  18. The son of my good friends is racing in FR Americas at Laguna Seca this weekend, check it out if you can. Usually at least some of it gets streamed on YouTube through Speedtour. https://ryanshehan.com/
  19. No problem with any of the protestors who are being peaceful and non-destructive and obeying state laws and campus rules. No problem with any of the counter-protestors who are being peaceful and non-racist. This is America, these are college campuses, this is how things are supposed to play out. The violence at UCLA on the other hand, is sad, and the local authorities and university administration failed miserably at getting it handled appropriately, early on.

Well then shut up about it already!
  21. This is absolutely the best and funniest thread on surly right now. It's certainly not what the protesters intended, but throw together a clownshow, and you're gonna get laughed at. (And possibly tazed because clownshows are scary)
  22. Mickelthwait scoffs at your miniscule wait time.
