  1. Yup, I was thinking specifically of the ferocity of the fan base. As the old lone-toothers selling jams and jellies along the roadside die off, and are replaced by younger folks, many of whom are actually from the state of Texas and might have grown up Longhorn fans, I'm wondering if the fan base will harbor as much hatred toward Texas, as they have in years past. Sort of the 2%er effect but for pig instead of ag.
  2. Yup, Arkansas gives generous financial aid to Texas students. So do Alabama and some other SEC schools. Some Texas kids would rather go to a flagship in another state, than one of Texas' directional universities like Texas State, UTSA, or Texas A&M.
  3. As I'm sure you know well, why is divorce so expensive?
  4. Yeah the multiverse itself is the problem for me. It plays differently in movies, than it ever did in the comic books. I really just don't care about individual characters because there's an infinite number of replacements for them. Sure, some of them might only be 2D or might be pigs, but there's still plenty of them out there.
  5. Maybe so, but at least one of them I know personally, still wears UT gear when he's home in Austin. They knew all along they didn't have the grades to get into Texas, it's not like it was some huge surprise
  6. Yeah! Gulf, Martini, and John Player Special can SUCK IT!
  7. True, true. But in recent years, there are a lot more Texas kids going to Arkansas. I know the kids of three families in Austin, all raised as die-hard Longhorns, but didn't get in to UT. They're going to Arkansas now, but I wonder how much hate they'll be able to muster against the team they rooted for their entire lives? It'll be interesting to see if this new dynamic affects the moonshine-fueled fury of the jelly-selling hordes.
  8. Well, somebody's got to take up our mantle as Conference Bad Boy after we leave. Might as well be the Birds-in-a-Blender.
  9. I have no love for Mercedes, they can go fuck themselves. Toto is a dick, Lewis is a petulant child, and then there's that other guy. That said, the silver Merc livery is beautiful and the black Merc livery is boring AF.
  10. Yeah, the cost of that much meat is going to add up quick. You might consider searching for some cost savings by thinking outside the box...
  11. Had the BBQ gumbo at SS yesterday and it was pretty freaking great. Served over potato salad-- which I'd only ever heard of on the gumbo thread here on the surl-- and it worked. Also served with a link of boudin which was decent but not great.
  12. It goes further back than that, it's been a running joke in the national media since the late 80s. When will Texas be back?? After the devastating loss to Georgia in the 1984 Cotton Bowl, which ended up costing Texas a national championship, the football team wandered in the woods for over a decade. There was the one great "WIT" year in 1990, and at the time, the media asked "Is Texas back?" 46-3 later, that question was answered with a resounding "no." Then in '95 and '96, with back-to-back conference championships and Texas seemingly on an upswing, everyone started asking the question again. But 1997's disappointing season and the subsequent firing of Mackovic, seemed to once again answer that question as a "no." Then Mack Brown finally turned things around and for a while, Texas WAS back. And then, we weren't. So after every down period, the question is asked.
  13. I've defended the guy and agree with most of what you're saying, but I'm not sure we can make this conclusion, yet. Speaking strictly from the UT perspective, as you heard at the B12 CCG, he fired up the fans so mightily that there's zero chance of any reconciliation between Texas and the rest of the B12, for the foreseeable future. That may not affect ISU, but Texas Tech desperately needs as much exposure and as many butts in seats as possible. That's precisely why their administration has alternated between begging Texas to continue the series, and attempting to guilt/strong-arm Texas into continuing the series. The same is true for Baylor and TCU. But given Yormark's attitude, statements, and positioning, he's completely guaranteed that won't happen at any time in the future that would actually help the Texas schools within the B12. When all he HAD to do, was make some generic comments and let things go.

    Tex Mex

Santa Catarina is great. More along the lines of the interior-Mex than Tex-Mex, but they do have some Tex-Mex options that are solid. Good happy hour specials too. They have that location in Cedar Park, and another in Lakeway.
  15. Stiles Switch and Terry Black's both have full dining rooms and full dining hours, so they're a good choice for BBQ at dinner. Minimal lines at both except at peak lunch hour and even then it might only be 20 people in line. Not sure about downtown brunch or lunch. For Tex-Mex, Enchiladas y Mas

    Tex Mex

Yeah Mama Betty's is decent. Don't love their Tex-Mex enchilada con carne gravy but it's okay. They have other things on the menu that are better.
  17. Yup. But, they DO do it, every year in December. Some of the other "12 days" specials change up, but the chicken fried beef rib is a staple. So tasty, so ridiculous. Had the smoked chicken and dumplings today and really liked it. They have these Christmas specials dialed in. Don't think I can make it tomorrow but I'll be back on Sunday for the gumbo.
  18. Amen brutha! Like I said earlier, good Lord willing, my dream scenario is that Texas beats Washington in the Sugar Bowl, then Michigan in the championship game, thus claiming the conference championship titles of the B12, SEC, PAC, and B1G. Then we should challenge Florida State to a game a week later and take the ACC crown, too!
  19. I think all 4 teams in the CFP deserve their spots, I think they ARE the 4 best teams in the country right now, and I think any one of them could beat any other. That's going to make this year's CFP a lot of fun. It'll obviously be even more fun for us, if the Horns win. But if not, it's still been a fantastic season, and one I'll remember fondly forever. It's not like Texas has been just piling up the football conference championship trophies lately. This one is special and meaningful. Now, let's see the team go beat the shit outta U-Dub.
  20. I'll be at the brewery tomorrow if any surlys end up stopping by to say "muledick." I'll be the one in a burnt orange Live Oak t-shirt...
  21. I'm married to an ag as well. Similarly, she doesn't follow anything other than watching the games, which she is very passionate about. But she also watches Longhorn games with me and will pull for Texas when we're not playing the ags. She's been indoctrinated since birth so she'll never actually switch, but she's just fine with pulling for Texas under most circumstances. She also thinks horns-down is stupid and is extra cringe when the TV shows ags doing it in games when they're not even playing us. She says, "That's what ousux is supposed to do, but not us." On second thought, maybe she will eventually come around...
