the cotton bowl weather/travel thread
Good question. If this were like a normal bowl they'd be there almost a week ahead of time for all of the press and photo ops and trips to whatever the Dallas version of Disneyland is. But since this is the third round of CFP games, I don't know how they're managing it.

2024 Week 17 - Cotton Bowl CFP Semifinal Texas vs Ohio State
4 quarters of our offense scoring at least 2 TDs per quarter, while the defense allows no more than 1.5 points per quarter. Final score no closer than 56-6. Obviously.

Could it end up being that flying in from the midwest ends up easier than driving in from Austin, Houston, and other parts of Texas?

Michigan State will never be a more important football program than Michigan. UCLA will never be a more important football program than USC. Auburn will never be a more important football program than Alabama. This is the nature of being a little brother to a blueblood. It will never change.

2024 Week 17 - Cotton Bowl CFP Semifinal Texas vs Ohio State
I think the graphic was supposed to represent the divide between Texas and Oklahoma, not where the game is played.

They tried to open an Underwood's in Austin 40 years ago. It didn't take.

Sugar Bowl 2025
Terrible play call there, way too deep and slow.

Sugar Bowl 2025
Texas already beat the champs, in their own house. And Ohio State didn't, in their own house.

Sugar Bowl 2025
This is what we could have and would have done to Gunner Stockton if we'd had any time to prepare. Should have done it anyway but we have second half brain disease for some reason.

Formula 1 2025
It's crazy, for some reason my wife really loves F1 too. But mostly the interviews, and DtS. She only seems to tolerate the races on Sunday mornings.

Chili w/o beans
We're home for one day today after camping in Fredericksburg on my BIL's property for Christmas, but before going back out camping with a big group of friends in Georgetown for the next week. So I'm making a big batch of Texas Red whilst watching the Cowboys game, with intent to consume on New Year's Day, watching the Horns beat the hell out of ASU, when it should be nice and chilly all day. Thinking back over some discussion a few pages back about the steeping water being bitter, which has never been my experience, and I realized that something I always do but don't really think about-- I always stem and de-seed the dried chile peppers before they go into the oven for toasting, and thus before the chiles go into the steeping water. Another point is, I don't ever boil the dried chile peppers, just use hot water. I think either of those things, either steeping with the seeds and veins and stems in, or boiling the peppers, can result in bitter water. But as it is, if anything my steeping water always turns out a little sweet, most likely from the anchos in the blend. Anyway, just something I thought about as I was doing it and thought I'd post it up here in case it might help someone, when doing the rehydrated chile method.

Fuck jerryworld
Relax. TX-OU will never go to Jerry World. If it ever leaves the Cotton Bowl, it'll go home-and-home. But the current contract with the Cotton Bowl is through 2036 so the immediate future is secure.

Texas BBQ
Ballgame! The idea that BBQ chicken isn't proper Texas BBQ is... juvenile and stupid.

Peach Bowl: Texas vs Arizona State, Jan. 1, 12:00PM, ESPN
Yup. I've got a friend who refers to this is a "No, Dumbass" coach. Sark needs someone telling him, "No, dumbass, make a better decision."

Texas BBQ
Stiles Switch does BBQ chicken pretty well. At least the one in CP, I don't think I've ever had it at N. Lamar. It's funny though, it's getting tougher and tougher to find smoked yardbird on BBQ menus. 2-3 decades ago it was quite common, anyone who did brisket and sausage and pork spare ribs probably also did chicken. Now it's common to see turkey and pork loin, and less common to see chicken.

- Why Texas Stomps a Mudhole In Clemson's Ass
Similar thing happened for the game against the ags. Mediots picking A&M just because it was a home game for them and there's no way Texas was going to withstand 110,000 screaming ags in maroon. At night. Texas physically dominated and won then, and I expect Texas to dominate physically and win today. But to win comfortably, the Horns are going to have to avoid unloading the shotgun directly into the foot over and over and over again.- Eggnog Time, Mother Fuckers
Ha! Yeah my wife won't go near aged nog, either. Every time I have some, she keeps expecting a hospital trip, even though for many years now I've proven that it's just fine.- Formula 1 2025
Fairly true, but at the same time, I don't mind when the drivers let their real emotions show. I get so tired of cleaned and whitewashed sports where fierce competitors are expected to act like they all love each other. - Why Texas Stomps a Mudhole In Clemson's Ass
