  1. We referred to ENS as "The Toilet" because the halls were all lined with those little bathroom tiles. Man what a piece of shit. And don't even get me started on "The Penthouse" and the smells coming from those microwaves.
  2. See? COTA is a lot worse than that!
  3. This is what I'm hoping. Just gas up ahead of time, pack a cooler with food and snacks, and do it. I think a lot of folks are overthinking this thing. They see pictures of crowded highways from the last one and think it's armageddon, but none of those folks died from starvation on the side of the road. They all made it home eventually. Heck, I bet it's much worse trying to get out of the parking lot at COTA after a Formula 1 race or a Rolling Stones concert, than it will be traveling the highways of Central Texas on Monday.
  4. We're still camping all weekend at my BIL's property outside of F'burg, and we'll have plenty of beer and food. My BIL has basically just turned it into a Family Reunion, but only invited the best ones-- we're gonna have a blast. Might not even realize whether there are clouds or not by Monday...
  5. At this point I don't think the TX-OU game is in danger of failing to sell out any time soon. But yeah, there are options for TVs throughout Fair Park.
  6. My mom's a Delta Zeta and was at UT about the same time as you. Father?
  7. On the flipside, two nights ago I had rain at my house, when the forecast 2 days before that, said zero rain for at least a week. So, there you have it...
  8. Maybe but it still looks better than none at all.
  9. NW Travis County, around Twin Creeks.
  10. I think just about any SUV without a roof rack looks weird. Sort of too smooth and unfinished or something.
  11. 0.3 inches at my house, no hail, sorry ROFL.
  12. Still, if it's just some normal everyday rain, instead of the typical monsoon, it'll be worth it.
  13. SEC scheduling has always been wonky. As I recall, back before the expansion to 12 teams in 1991/92, there were years when LSU might only play 6 or 7 of the other 9 teams.
  14. Dude you're crazy. There's self-reliance and then there's pure stubbornness. I lost two loquats to the various freezes, took 'em down with my chainsaw in about 20 seconds each, and taught my kids the valuable lesson of-- don't fuck around and find out with a chainsaw. That tool means business.
  15. They have several good beers, for me their coffee milk stout is quite special.
  16. Absolutely get it. There are some things I choose to do on my own, because for me they are easy and quick, and I also enjoy the DIY aspect of a lot of things. But there are also things I know how to do, that I still hire out. For example I no longer change my own oil because the time it takes me to do the work, and then dispose of the waste, isn't worth it. The shop can do it more efficiently than I can and I'm happy to spend the money and let them do so.
  17. I think you'd have appreciated it. My dad was incredibly self-sufficient, and he DID force me to help him change the oil, the brakes, repair drywall, repair plumbing, and all of that other stuff. Naturally I was an ungrateful surly little shit of a child, but now, decades later, I really do appreciate it. Not only for the knowledge, but for the time I shared with my dad, that I didn't even realize was so meaningful. He was always extremely busy at work, so the times he took to slow down and repair something at home, were some of the rare times we got to spend a lot of time together.
  18. Exactly, all of this. I was speaking to the nuance. The message is not simple.
  19. Adrian Newey to Ferrari talk not going away... ... in my mind.
  20. That's fine. There are 8 pages on this thread that you could read, where a lot of people have explained why they're excited about it. But you certainly don't have to be. Well it IS also a way for municipalities to give non-essential employees the day off, so they're not adding to the mayhem in the middle of those towns, if they don't want to be. And also, the Dripping Springs announcement mentioned being able to force a shut-down of road construction during the event, which is one way to help out potential traffic issues that might have been caused by road construction companies deciding to work that day, and foul up the roads whilst scores of thousands of extra cars are filtering through the area. Now they won't have the option. More resources, shut down non-essential worker commuting, etc. "Disaster" sounds melodramatic, but it's really just part of a reasonable plan to manage the event.
  21. Very light rain in NW Travis
