  1. They just blocked Texas from enforcing the social media law. The four justices that would decline the application to vacate the stay are Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch, and......Kagan.
  2. Just booked July 4th weekend in Marfa and Fort Davis. Can't fucking wait.
  3. I don't want to come across as a conspiracy theorist and I'm not even sure this is the right place to post this. This photo has stuck with me for such a long time for one reason only: the man on the far right who isn't in the photo (I put a star where he should show up just in case it wasn't obvious). I remember seeing the full photo on the internet a long time ago and it was some CIA guy in a blue tie. I've looked everywhere but the original photo is nowhere to be found. It's like it was scrubbed from all sources. Even this Daily Mail article that makes mention of it is pretty much scrubbed. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2011345/CIAs-Osama-bin-Laden-hunter-John-NOT-pictured-Situation-Room-photo.html
  4. US District Court granted an injunction on the ordinance restricting strip club operating hours as violating protected free speech https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/USCOURTS-txnd-3_22-cv-00177/pdf/USCOURTS-txnd-3_22-cv-00177-0.pdf
  5. I'm assuming you're referring to magazine capacity. The Parkland shooter had 10 round mags. An obvious response being that he would have done more damage with a "high capacity" magazine but he was still able to do what he did with 10. What difference does it make when there are still so many victims? Does it make a shooting more acceptable if only 5 round mags were legal? I would certainly hope not.
  6. Front page of the Dallas Morning News
  7. Awww they look so cute. It's like looking at lions from the zoo. They look really threatening but you don't have to worry about them jumping over the fence to harm you. "Protect and serve" my ass
  8. Is Uvalde PD a civil service department? I don't think that chapter applies if they're not. They can be fired for any reason.
  9. Everything I've read suggests that the murders were done over the entirety of the 40 minutes. It wasn't 20 dead then wait 30 minutes. It was 1 dead here, two dead there, wait, more dead, wait, etc. Pure evil.
  10. Everyone loves to talk about our country's gun culture but the cop culture is just as bad if not worse. Growing up I used to believe that cops would fight to save a civilians life but these days it's almost the exact opposite. We value police lives so much that we don't want them being put in harms way even if it means innocent civilians dying in the process. I'm sure we'll hear more about it in the coming days but I can only hope that the story isn't as bad as the one the South Florida Sun Sentinel put together about the Parkland shooting. That kid had all the time in the world to kill kids, leave the scene, head to McDonalds for a snack, and the police still weren't inside the building. Uvalde doesn't need another Scot Peterson on their police force https://projects.sun-sentinel.com/2018/sfl-parkland-school-shooting-critical-moments/
  11. Personal anecdote about this specific topic. When I graduated college it was the first time I met the family of my girlfriend (now wife). Her stupid ass mother comes up to me and says "hey great to meet you, we're going out to dinner do you want to come with us?". Lots of pressure so I felt obligated to say yes. So I got to eat at a terrible restaurant with her family while mine stayed in the hotel and entertained themselves without me. I had grandparents, parents, and siblings there but also had aunt, uncle, and cousins that I hadn't seen in years. They were pissed and never came to another graduation for my family again.
  12. The audible yawn. That shit is so goddamn rude.
  13. What the fuck did I miss from all the coverage?
  14. I am VERY interested in this story.
  15. That really surprises me. SNL just isn't what it used to be. I've tried to watch it beginning to end but it's painfully bad. Guess that means Abe Simpson was right....
  16. I love my Luna II QX but my sleep dr hates it.
  17. Damn. I was top 10 out of about 300 in my class with a 4.6 GPA. Our valedictorian had a 5.1. She ended up doing community college for a year and then went onto UT Tyler (I guess that counts as the ivy league of east Texas).
  18. I would understand if this involved a lower level program like Western Kentucky or Texas A&M but an Alabama vs Texas matchup just screams night game. Is this what we have to look forward to in the SEC?
  19. I can't understand why municipalities don't just go all in on either fully allowing them or outright banning them. Aren't zoning codes supposed to be about building rights rather than restrictions? Why are Texas cities allowing STRs to operate in residential neighborhoods? That's what is happening in Dallas right now. Years ago our city attorney basically said that STRs are not residential or hotels and can't be regulated. They still ask the operators to pay HOT but most are calling the city's bluff. The council just needs to say "zoning for SFH doesn't allow short term rentals so cease and desist that behavior immediately" but they're dragging their heels. One council member even says that restricting STRs is racist (no CR plz). Also I don't buy the BS that most STR operators are mom and pop. That's definitely not the case in Dallas
  20. They spoke about this on the Ticket this morning. Of course this happened in Forney. This is the same town where a county deputy jumped on a girl because she was allegedly trying to run in front of cars and had her in a very questionable position. But now the family is claiming that the boy is a bullying victim and he went over to their house to confront them over frustration. Doesn't explain the whip and I don't know if the kid understands the implication. I'm sure we'll find out more once the guy in jail decides to run for mayor
  21. "My ass got fired but I don't want that to be the public narrative so I'll spin this as if I'm in total control of my job situation. Don't worry. You'll more than likely never hear from me again."
  22. Is Nevada the only state that allows distilleries to sell their bourbon directly to consumers online?
  23. @Gap03 nailed it. Sometimes you'll see it paired with an 88. 8 stands for the eight letter in the alphabet. HH. Heil Hitler. Disgusting shit.
  24. The N word and 14. Pure evil.
