my point re: comedians having influence is that it’s dishonest to take what was by all accounts his most right wing sounding performance ever and act like that’s all he’s ever said or done, when in reality he is, at least in my opinion, a much needed voice that’s listened to by basically every rogansphere bro and young republican in the country. i feel extremely confident when i say say that he’s influenced more young conservatives to open their minds than he has influenced people think that rape is cool.

he said he’s not overly familiar with shane’s comedy but that every time he hears shane talk about anything “politically adjacent” that shane comes off a leftist.

which one, the gym joke where he said “women dress like whores”? yes, calling women whores is misogynistic. there were plenty of funny and accurate ways to tell ghat joke, and he went full bore to the right.

yeah, as i’ve said, i didn’t like the episode specifically because of the direction he went in. it made him look bad. how are you not getting this? you’re so out for some “gotcha!” moment that you aren’t even comprehending what i’m saying, you just keep being adversarial for no reason. this is reminding me of sam ehlinger and quinn ewers, where everyone around me is so tribalistic about their opinion on this guy that everything for them is all or nothing. they can never say that he had a bad game, or that something was his fault, and they assume that everyone else operates that way. so when i’m like, “yeah, shane fucked up, that was dumb, not funny, and crass”, it’s like they can’t process it, and just keep on arguing anyway. i’m able to be objective while you remain fanatical. it’s wild.

i went to barton creek mall in august, and it was back to school time, and it was just ass cheeks everywhere. i deadass ended up on an escalator behind some girl who’s about to start 8th grade (with her mom and little brother in tow) with both cheeks just out in the open. i had to more or less ride the elevator up backwards just to try and feel comfortable. i do not understand how we’ve gone this far the other way in the name of preventing “body shaming”.

replace “boots” with “$200 dirty white sneakers” and you’re describing the attire worn by the middle school girls at the parochial school where my mom and i worked. we’ve seen a second sort of “women’s lib” movement in recent times which has seen- in mine and my mom’s opinion- the whole body shaming thing experience a wild overcorrection that has made it to where young girls (not women, girls) are so “empowered” over the new lack of “slut shaming/body shaming” that high school and even middle school girls now regularly wear clothes to school that are deadass only appropriate if you’re home by yourself. the shane bit was crass, but this is a very real thing, and anyone working in education has seen the change over the years. i doubt i’ll ever be comfortable with it.

ok, i have already posted this video in this thread. i’m quoting it now. so there’s no more excuses that you haven’t been informed as to where shane gillis leans politically. because probably 90% of anti shane gillis posts in this thread wouldn’t even have been composed (at least not honestly) if you’ve watched this one minute long IG video. now when you watch that video, i want you to track your own reaction. because you’ll do one of two things: 1)”hmm. that does paint him in a bit of a different light for me. let me pay closer attention going forward if i insist on continuing to have an opinion about shane gillis and his politics.” or 2)you’ll watch it, shrug it off, and continue feeling exactly the way you already feel, ignoring the facts, which ironically is the most maga thing you can do. ignore all facts, keep pushing forward with what your feelings want you to believe. and i’m not even gonna say “no offense” here: you all have been more than educated on shane gillis’s politics now. if you choose to ignore the facts because you want to keep hating this maga person you’ve invented, that’s a)on you, b)sad, and c)a very very maga thing to do. no more “guessing” where he lands politically. use your eyes, ears, and your brain, and either accept it or don’t. you cannot say that you don’t know enough about him any more. we’re done with that.

1)he is into politics, very very openly so, he’s never claimed not to be 2)deadas, do me a favor: go watch Beautiful Dogs. it’s less than an hour long. if you don’t come away realizing that 40 minutes of that special is making fun of right wing people and their politics then i just don’t know what to tell you. i’m not trying to attack you, but it’s funny how consistently the people who don’t like/don’t watch shane have the most mischaracterized idea of who he is and what type of jokes he makes. he blatantly, overtly, repeatedly makes fun of how fucking stupid right wingers are, and again, has openly attacked- not made jokes about, openly, blatantly attacked- donald trump, his entire cabinet, and all of shane’s “stupid fucking republican family members”. you cannot pay attention to shane gillis and think that he’s either apolitical or right leaning. he’s so open about this. this guy sits on the fence ZERO percent, and yet it’s the people who admittedly don’t listen to his stuff who swear that he either is a trumper or is one of these “i don’t do politics” guys. it’s just so far from reality man. it’s blatantly false.

i wish that they would lean into his love of history and do more historical bits. i’d like to think that they could come up with half a dozen skits from just his george washington bit alone.

as i’ve said, i did not come to this conclusion on my own. this is not my own theory, which is why i keep saying, “i don’t know how much of this was shane and how much of it was snl.” but here are two facts: 1)when i went to twitter after the show was when i saw multiple accounts at the top of the page floating this theory, claiming that snl knows that this is the only way to trend on social media. that made sense to me after 2)watching him play a maga chud all night, which is absolutely not his normal shtick. quite the opposite in fact. he normally makes fun of those people, not says, “hey look i am one of those people.” you may believe that shane, on his own, changed his entire MO and leaned into n everything bad that people think about it, and that it just coincidentally got more people talking about snl than they have in years. i do not. it’s not a leap at all to think that snl wanted him to be as controversial as possible, in fact it’s what actually makes the most sense.

yeah that’s what’s disappointing for me. if you watch his specials or his own sketches and shows, here’s who he makes fun of, in order: 1.himself, by far 2.right wing dudes 3.donald trump plus he’s a history buff/college grad who was accepted to west point who’s spent years and years publicly talking about how he’s never voted for trump, he doesn’t like trump, hates/is embarrassed by trump’s cabinet, hates the holidays because of his “stupid fucking republican” family members, and on and on. that’s the guy i like. that’s when he’s at his best. i was really hoping that on this third run on snl that he’d lean into that, but it was just the exact opposite.

i mean when he said, “my friend joe rogan” straight into that camera/crowd i damn near jumped out of my seat. that was as blatant as it gets when it comes to being provocative for provocative sake. it’s like they gave him a list that said: Joe Rogan Theo Von women are whores fat bitches gay or hitler and told him to just knock em all out at one time for maximum results. i don’t know how much of it was shane on his own and how much of was snl’s prompting, but ive never seen him lean into the “im the maga chud you all think i am” like that before. and ive yet to find a fan of his who liked the show because of that. it definitely created the buzz they wanted though. snl will go months without being talked about this much again.
