The thread title "...Losing Me" implies you were to some degree bought in with the hire. Then you immediately say you were not.
i never wanted him hired, but once he was the hire i was always going to give him an opportunity to show that i was wrong. we aren’t even two months into his first season and he’s already losing what little faith i chose to put in him. this roster is a terrible mix of a)no pg, b)no shooters, and c)frankly lesser talented players. our defense is the worst it’s been since tom penders. our recruiting class is three guys who all play the same position and who won’t be impact players for another two years. and fan interest seems to be at an all time low. it’s been a pretty spectacular string of failures to start his career at Texas, and the future doesn’t look any better. i wanted to be proven wrong, but i’m already losing what little faith i wanted to have in him.

african teams should all threaten to pull out of the world cup.

he didn’t break any rules or do anything wrong; he just got sick and they didn’t feel like taking care of him.

wtf is wrong with the kids. did the pandemic really give everyone autism? this might be the most concise and informative video ever, but i wouldn’t know, because i could only make it about 10 seconds before turning it off. seriously, who makes a video on this type of subject matter, a video that’s supposedly both informative and important, and decides that the best way to get their message across is to preach at their audience while clacking away at a mouse and staring at a computer screen while playing video games? i cannot believe that this is the generation that’s going to be tasked with fixing this shit.

miller got three years at xavier and didn’t build anything.
16-18 in year two, then a very “meh” 22-12 (13-7) year three in a much weaker league than the sec. he wasn’t on any sort of upward trajectory when we decided to make him our HC. we’ve got several years worth of data to look at that says that next year isn’t going to be a great year either, barring miller bringing in the type of transfer class that this AD doesn’t want to spend the money on.

Reserving judgement on next season seems wise when we haven't hit conference play yet, especially for a coach who has shown a history of player development and using transfers (pre-transfer portal era!) to build a competitive roster.
it’s hard to reserve judgment on the future when the building blocks of said future are so underwhelming and/or nonexistent. here are the current players who might return next season:
and of course we also have our three sg commits, guys who are developmental pieces. you add the two together and that is just not a good roster, there’s no two ways about it. Miller will have to pull in one helluva transfer class to paper over those cracks in year two, which seems unlikely considering that spending money on his program is clearly not a priority for the AD or the BMD’s.
you also say miller “has a history of player development”, but i don’t see it. you mentioned tj mcconnell, but that was a decade ago. who else has he developed since then? he hasn’t been sending guys to league, since, what, mathurin? who was only with him for one year. nico mannion was the no.1 pg and a top 5-7 national player coming out of HS and he shot 39% from the field in his one season at arizona and has never been heard from since. i’m struggling to name anyone else who miller has developed in the last decade or so. it’s not a long or prestigious list.

I don't think much about you at all, really.
clearly.
imagine wandering into the basketball forum just to start a fight with derka and thinking that makes you anything but a retarded asshole.

also speaking of things “that everybody already knows”, this lore about who i am and why i post and the attention that i seek has been outdated for such long time. the people who post where i post (ie the people who post in this forum) see me making thousands upon thousands of regular ass posts about basketball, baseball, or arsenal day after day, without starting any shit or seeking any attention, or trying to provoke a reaction out of anyone. i’m just here every single day doing my normal thing with the same group of people, for years now. it’s really pretty boring 99% of the time.
and then someone like ctj, a guy who i cross paths with maybe three times per year on this site, comes in here, where i am every day, to type out 1,000 words about how i really really need you guys’s attention right now so i’m gonna get it by (checks notes) making a topical post in the appropriate forum. yeah. that makes sense. that tracks. thanks for stopping by, and never come back again, please and thank you.

Is that really a question, though? We're all familiar with Derka's bullshit. He has a pathological need to play Cassandra on any subject matter in which he's interested. This thread helps him establish, firmly and full-throated, that he was out on Sean Miller first. He told all of us first. No one would listen!!! He told us and we sat by and did nothing!!! What the fuck is wrong with all of you??!??! Do you not know ball or are you just a bunch of fucking sunshine pumping CDC apologist, god damn you!!
Never mind that no one on this site outside of a few known pollyannas are doing anything but behaving like normal fans at this moment in time. There is zero entertainment or value in sprinting out to the middle of the forum and lamenting the shame and futility of the Miller hire unless you're a narcissist who needs to show everybody how right you are and how stupid everyone else is.
Most of us just want to root for the program and hope some of what they're seeing isn't so damning that we're going through the whole process again in 4 years, even though we probably will be and we all fucking know that, but there's no fun or value in starting with that premise right now.
The least surprising thing I've witnessed in a very unsurprising day so far is that Derka started this thread. It actually gave me pause and I had the thought: "wait, he hasn't started one of these already?"
i’m literally just starting the ubiquitous “criticize the coach” thread, but it’s cute that you think so deeply about me and my motivations for posting about the HC of Texas Basketball here in the Texas Basketball forum.

But, my question is what does constantly complaining about it do?
here’s my question, one that i’ve had for decades now, that still has no answer: why is it a federal crime to post judgment and negativity? why do so many of you react this way every single time someone is critical of shaka smart, sam ehlinger, quinn ewers, jarrett allen, rodney terry, ted lasso, game of thrones, rick & morty, and on and on and on? you can post a million supportive words that say “this coach/player/tv show is the best!!!” and nobody has a problem with it, but as soon as you’re like, “yeah this guy isn’t good enough”, or, “this tv show isn’t as good as it used to be” everyone is all ThEn wHy ArE yOu EvEn pOsTiNg AbOuT It??!?!??
it’s so stupid. and it’s antithetical to the entire purpose of shaggy. pancho, you were like the third member of shaggy and you’re in here making this weak ass argument? “if you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t post at all”? why are y’all like this? especially you? it’s so obviously stupid and backwards, and yet it never fails. NCAA: NO CRITICISM AT ALL. foh

do you want one dedicated thread for this or do you want all of the posts about sean miller not being the right coach for Texas to continue to permeate every other thread?

seriously, i mean saka >>>>>> palmer. so what is it? is it just because he’s english and white? why does this guy constantly get included in stuff like this?

I’m not ready to start the “Fire Sean Miller” thread, although i could have just as easily titled this thread, “We Should Not Have Hired Sean Miller In The First Place”, because that’s how i felt about the prospect of hiring him to begin with, and now only ~6 weeks into his inaugural season i’m pretty much checked out and assuming that not much is going to change that, not only over the course of this season, but going into next season as well.
as has been posted here many times, sean miller hasn’t really done shit in the last 10 years. his only good teams came more than a decade ago when he was cheating his ass off, and he showed even more obvious character issues with the way that he immediately ditched Xavier for the Texas job after Xavier had welcomed him back home with a soft landing spot and open arms after his fbi/cheating scandal at arizona. the guy looked like a star 10 years ago, but that’s eons ago in the world of college basketball. since then, his resume is “meh”.
miller has won a tourney game in two of his last 10 seasons. he’s missed the tourney three times during that span, soon to be four. he hasn’t made the elite 8 during that time, and he’s never made the final four. six out of the last nine years his team has finished the season ranked lower than where it started in kenpom. he also does not have a system that he can lean on and recruit to. he just gathers talent and then sees what he can do with it, and those coaches are becoming dinosaurs.
speaking of grabbing talent, our highly rated recruiting class for next year is three shooting guards, none of whom will be an impact player next year. in fact only one of the three projects to be a guy who gets more than 15-17 minutes next year. these are guys who will take years to develop as part of a more complete roster, they are not game changers.
so not only does this season look bleak, but the future doesn’t look any better. ideally, at this program, in year two, a player like Vok should be your 5th best player, maybe 4th best if he cuts down on fouls and silly mistakes. as of now he’s going to be our best player next year. so unless miller is able to sign a transfer class with four different guys who are going to come in and be better than Vok will be (and at least one of them needs to be a high end PG, and another needs to be a 2-3 level scorer) then i don’t see how next year is going to be markedly different than this one.
the guys i talked to when the miller rumors were really heating up said that CDC has wanted him for years and was basically zoned in on him. he figured he’d be a safe hire with a high floor who would cost a lot less than tommy lloyd, or anyone else we may have considered had we actually had any ambition when it came to this hiring. so now here we are, still wandering the goddamn desert like he have been since ~2012, save the oases that were shaka’s first year and beard’s cup of coffee with the program. and i don’t see no more oases on the horizon. i see a disjointed roster full of third tier sec players and a future that’s more of the same. i’ve never been this down so n a coach this early into his tenure, in any sport, but what the fuck man. there’s just no objective, fact based argument that says that sean miller has Texas Basketball anywhere near being in a good position- not now, and not for the future. shit is depressing.
