  1. historically, for whatever reason, the top rated conference often underperforms in the tourney. i’m very high on several sec teams, but it won’t be super surprising if only 3-4 make the S16.
  2. if y’all watched any tv at all yesterday then you’d have had a lot of your questions about unc answered. the committee people who were all over the various networks spoke ad nauseam about predictive metrics and specifically cited kenpom where again, unc is no.33 and we are no.44. analytics play a huge role in the selection process these days, and like it or not, unc’s metrics are better than ours, even though we played in a superior conference. i mean what did we do that was so great? our amazing Q1 wins are a bunch of ugly ass home games vs the likes of a&m and missouri, two of our six conference wins paired with 12 league losses. that’s impressive? no. it’s really really easy to just zone in on unc’s Q1 record and say, β€œthey’re disqualified”, but you could easily do the same thing by saying, β€œtexas won 33% of their league games, they’re out.” if you widen the scope a little bit you can see that why this is a discussion.
  3. tennessee has been to the sweet 16 or further in three of the last four tourneys, including a trip to the elite 8 last year.
  4. a)who in the hell do you see pining for barnes? and b)you shouldn’t admit to something as stupid as being done with rick barnes smack dab in the middle of his run of 5 sweet 16’s in 7 years. i haven’t out and out insulted anyone like this in a very long time but you’re a fucking idiot.
  5. when the committee is parsing through the respective records of true bubble teams, all of whom have suspect records and easy cases as to why they shouldn’t be let in, then yeah, who you schedule matters. one of those posts above that showed record vs tourney teams showed that we had 20 opportunities to play against tourney teams, while the rest of the teams listed had like 10 games against tourney teams. unc wasn’t going to play a lot of tourney teams in their conference so they scheduled a bunch of final four contenders in their non con. Texas meanwhile did the exact opposite and sought the weakest non conference schedule possible, and ended the season with a 19-15 record and a .333% win percentage in conference play. i’ve seen you post that all we had to do was beat south carolina or georgia to not be on the bubble. i’d argue that replacing the SEVEN ooc teams ranked 228th or worse (an embarrassing FIVE of which were against teams ranked 308th or worse, FOUR of those being vs teams ranked 349th or worse) with teams ranked between 80-150 would have been more than enough to make the difference. there’s a reason that UNC is 11 spots ahead of us in kenpom (33 vs 44). 22-13 with a brutal non conference schedule vs 19-15 with *the worst non conference schedule i have ever seen*. it’s not about rewarding unc, it’s about not rewarding Texas.
  6. we are 19-15 with THE worst ooc schedule in major college basketball, ranking 280th in the country. meanwhile UNC is a 22-13 team with a top 3 ooc schedule. ooc UNC played kansas, auburn, michigan state, alabama, ucla, and florida read that again ooc UNC played kansas, auburn, michigan state, alabama, ucla, and florida meanwhile, texas’s ooc schedule included houston christian, chicago state, mississippi valley state, delaware state, arkansas pine bluff, new orleans, and northwestern state we are 19-15. what do you think our record would be if instead of scheduling the sisters of the poor we had an ooc schedule like unc’s? 17-17? 15-19? the committee not only needs to leave us out of the tournament, they need to come on tv and specifically say that you don’t get rewarded for going 19-15 with the most pathetic schedule that anyone’s ever seen. period.
  7. these whistles are killing me, and this game. jesus.
  8. yes, previous jenkins is me. my mom hasn’t officially joined yet but she will today. πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ
  9. holy shit, you think we’ve had enough whistles? my good, these two giant, athletic, aggressive teams are going to be playing 4 vs 4 by the end of the game.
  10. every time we’re in this situation, like we were with shaka, or now with RT, i find myself watching games like this florida vs tennessee game and going, β€œholy shit this looks nothing like a typical Texas game, we do not even play the same sport.” really, really looking forward to seeing Texas playing fast paced, competent, confident basketball again soon.

  12. need to find a way to get freddie freeman on one of these teams.

  14. i can’t imagine tre not deciding to skip the NIT, and with him out i don’t see why the rest of our team of final-year mercenaries would want to participate in such a second rate tourney that none of them even want to be in in the first place.
  15. in favor UNC? that’s the exact message it would send.
  16. lol seriously. three guys in the lane, and none of them converge on the guard to cut off his path to the rim. queen with a half assed, late effort, but that’s about it. thanks for playing.
  17. derik queen just slapped the ball out of the hands of the michigan inbounder and the official did nothing. πŸ‘€ im watching auburn tennessee earlier and they won’t even let them play, just constant whistles early and often in the 2H, and now later on in the day i watch an official just refuse to call the most blatant violation i’ve seen all season. the inconsistency across the sport is maddening.
  18. if ben mccollum is able to recruit well, handle NIL well, and particularly work the portal well then he’s going to be a success wherever he goes. those are some big-ass β€œif’s” that a lot of people want to ignore. iu should not take on that risk. iowa seems like a more appropriate landing spot for him imo. especially if iu still has any big boosters who care about hoops (which i have to assume they do).
  19. some guy from the tourney committee just said on cbs, β€œaway wins are critically important to the committee because the tourney is played at neutral sites.” we won two regular season games vs tourney teams on the road (oklahoma and miss st) and two in the league tourney (vandy and a&m).
  20. jesus christ tennessee just got fucked. terrible officiating. could decide the entire game. well, ball don’t lie.
