  1. beard had a buyout of $4m and a $5m annual salary. all of sudden a $5m buyout and a $7-8m salary (which even according to gerry is a given) is too much? Texas Athletics either can’t or is unwilling to spend that to hire a HC whose expectations will be to have Texas as a premier hoops program for the next 20 years? that makes sense to y’all? that sounds to you like that’s how CDC operates?
  2. i’m arguing that there is literally nothing in the history of CDC being here that says that we’d rather have a lesser coach than to drop a few bucks, *especially* after building the moody center. i’m also arguing that CDC’s track record >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> gerry hamilton’s dumb ass speculation. if i actually believed anything gerry says, which i clearly don’t, then id seriously rather just keep rodney terry until we fail so miserably for so long that we “change our minds” and decide that the money that this AD finds in the couch cushions is worth spending on a top tier men’s basketball coach.
  3. chris beard cost a lot of money, didn’t bring in any stars or nba talent, and had our program flying after one transitionary season where we still won our first tourney game in 8 years. shaka smart and rodney terry didn’t cost a lot of money, between them they brought in a bunch of top 10 classes and players like tre young, and they make us all want to poke out our eyeballs with rusty spoons when we watch their teams “compete”. a great coach is worth more than a million five star recruits or transfers, *especially* in this sport. there is not a single sport on the planet where winning is more directly affected by the HC than men’s college basketball. the coach is the crown jewel; the coach is the one you break the bank for; not the players.
  4. and on this subject, the posters here (and there are surprisingly a ton of them) who spend all of their time between the football board and cloak room and never really post about baseball, soccer, books, movies, art, etc are the most mentally ill people on the planet, and that’s coming from me. anyone who purposely subjects himself to those two boards on a daily basis is an absolute psychopath and a threat to public safety.
  5. i wasn’t aware that i had anyone on ignore until i went to put someone there just now and saw that i already had one person there. both of them feature prominently in the same fucked-up ass thread from the blood soaked, nightmarish hellscape that is the football board. the guy who was already there: he’ll blame your dead grandmother for UT football’s struggles before he’d blame quinn ewers, and he’d do it 30x per page. the other guy thinks that quinn ewers is a pussy.
  6. CDC: “we want to be top 10 in every sport. that’s the standard………..unless it costs money to hire elite coaches, and in that case we’re not really interested in being good, or winning, or filling that $375m basketball arena we just built.” yeah, because that makes sense. so on the one hand you’ve got chris del conte who has stated in no uncertain terms what our athletic goals are, backing it up with elite hires across the board, not to mention a $375 million dollar basketball arena, and then on the other hand you’ve got gerry fucking hamilton, who knows fuck all about anything, saying that a $5m buyout is too rich for our blood. gee, just a really tough call on who to believe.
  7. jokic gets fouled so, so much more often than SGA, and yet: vs
  8. then just keep rodney terry and come out and say, “we don’t give a shit about men’s basketball.” i don’t for one second believe that Texas was willing to break the bank for chris beard, see overwhelming success virtually overnight, then wander through the desert with terry, only to say, “we’re not spending any money to get a top flight coach to replace RT.” gerry hamilton is full of shit.
  9. what a nebulous, non specific statement, that’s addresses nothing in reality. so if nate oats and tommy lloyd have a higher buyout than ben mccollum then we’re just going to pass on those two for ben mccollum? and that’s going to pay off in the long run because instead of getting decades of a tier 1 coach we might get another tre johnson for 5 months? this shit makes zero sense whatsoever.
  10. what the hell does this even mean? the richest athletic department in the country isn’t going to consider any coaches with large buyouts because that wouldn’t be smart? on what planet? why does anyone listen to anything gerry hamilton says?

    preseason: post season:
  14. ok so in the conference tourney we beat vandy; then we beat a&m, because they suck and we’ve already done it once; then we beat tennessee because BaRNeS iN mArCh; then we beat ole miss who upset 1 seed auburn; then ok, we lose to florida in the final, but we’re in the tourney as an 11 seed. round one we play 6 seed marquette, beat them by 30, obviously; round two we play 14 seed lipscomb who beat 3 seed a&m; S16 we beat 10 seed utah state, who beat 15 seeded bryant, who upset 2 seed wisconsin in the opening round. voila, we’re in the elite 8! are you REALLY gonna sit here and tell me that this can’t happen?!? you sure about that? you sure about that?!?!
  15. i don’t know anything about karen aston, but tom herman is a huge prick who embarrassed the university both on the field and off, so that’s a pretty easy one. and again, i’ve said from the beginning that it’s unlikely, but your idea that there’s just a zero percent chance that CDC could sit down with RT, explain to him that we’re moving on, and then see if he can help RT find a new gig makes zero sense to me. seems like would pretty much be SOP, and far from “fantasy land”.
  16. we kicked shaka out the door without firing him, so it’s not only a thing, it’s a thing that we’ve already done. the two situations aren’t 100% analogous, but it’s possible to let RT go without leaving him out on his ass. is it likely? no. is it possible? yes.
  17. apparently i give CDC more credit than many of y’all do. again, we’re talking about case where it’s blatantly clear that the only reason we are winning games is because of our 19 year old lottery pick who is going full chris jackson on the competition. absolutely nobody thinks that this is a good or well coached team, even as we continue to win games. if you think CDC can’t still choose to move on from RT in that situation then that tells me that you don’t think very highly of CDC or his ability to do his job.
  18. well first off, nobody here said that. second, shane gillis has fooled countless people into thinking that he’s a right wing, bro rogansphere, trump supporter all while making fun of those exact people on a daily basis. his sister is married to an arab man; he has black, arab nieces and nephews; he’s volunteered multiple times with the special olympics; his podcast cohost and best friend is a liberal nerd with a black wife and mixed race kids; and perhaps most glaringly obvious, he kept on drinking bud light during every public appearance after the right had canceled bud light, to the point where he became a bud light spokesman. the funniest thing in this thread is people like you thinking that he’s a right wing comedian and then scoffing at the idea that his work has any nuance, when in fact his entire routine and persona has gone over your head. he shares the exact same values as you, makes fun of the same people as you, and you’re over here mad at him because you don’t even get it.
  19. it would take some maneuvering, but he doesn’t have to be fired. CDC could potentially find him a soft landing spot, we can make up some BS reason for RT taking that other job, and then replace him without actually firing him.
  20. real simple: Tre Johnson goes bananas in the conference tourney, then puts the team on his back and leads Texas to the Elite 8 averaging 25+ throughout the postseason. Does Rodney Terry keep his job if this happens?
  21. this might be kinda drastic, but should we consider moving the playoffs up by like a month? every time i get this far its like i compete in the playoffs with an entirely different roster then the one that got ke there. so many late season injuries and then people resting and preparing for the playoffs. not really sure what to do about it.
  22. i’ve been seeing headlines like this for weeks now, and i have a better question: when were we ever in the title race to begin with?
