there might not be one main character, but there’s like 20-25 characters before you start getting to side characters. there are hordes of new main characters every season. rhonda pearlman, jay landsman, maury leavy, shamrock, donut- these are the side characters of the wire.
and calling ron swanson “not a main character” on parks?
“tougher than it look though.”
”ok so that one is dead, we know that.”
”soon as i’m done with these birds.”
i still somehow find a way to use at least one of these every few days.
aaron judge just had a season that someone will equal (or best) as early as next year. in fact i don’t think anyone other than helo would say that judge had a better season than ohtani did this year. meanwhile cal raleigh just had a season that we may never see again. played a full season at catcher without a passed ball, managed one of the best staffs in the league, and had the greatest offensive season ever by a catcher (by a mile, as a switch hitter). this is dumb.
this is what i’ve been basing my loose comparisons to 2024 auburn on. we don’t have a johni broome, but much like that team we have like 7-8 guys who are all pretty close in terms of skill level, all good-very good college players- no scrubs, but no all americans. i really liked that auburn team (don’t google what they did in the tourney) and i’d love to see this Texas team resemble that squad in the sense of having 9 guys who all play a real role and who are dependable players. i feel like that’s the best version of this roster that we can hope for.
i loved that miller had the team running the offense and running at pace down to the very end. i’ve been wanting to see that for longer than i can remember.
