Arch played winning football and mateer didnโt. the story all week was whether or not mateer would play, as if that would be the deciding factor, and in the end he was thoroughly outplayed by Arch against what was supposed to be the best defense weโve faced all year.
quinn being brought up on this page is appropriate, because for the last two years he consistently failed to meet the level of basically everyone around him, and with marginally better, more competent, more aware qb play we win at least one of the last two national titles imo.
today we saw something totally different from QEโs ineffectual, turtling ways. Arch, just like quinn, is an openly flawed qb, but unlike quinn heโs got all of that intangible shit that really matters: moxie, heart, leadership, toughness, etc. he did not singlehandedly lead this team to a win, but he never let them down, and he consistently answered the call. big 3rd down conversions, extending drives, making plays with his arm and legs, and crucially, he never turned the ball over. we have been missing a qb who makes winning plays and who shows up in big moments for years. Arch is not a great qb by any means (yet), but as a competitor i am extremely pleased to have him at the helm. heโs got that dawg in him.
