  1. Planning to attend the UT game in Dayton on Wednesday night. Midweek / short notice means it will be a solo trip. Would be driving in Wednesday evening and staying overnight. Lunch Thursday in Dayton. Haven't decided if I will stay an extra night or not (leaning no, but can be persuaded). What do I need to know?

Indiana* and UNC (if they pull the trigger, which they absolutely should) both are bigger programs for a college basketball coach imo. Kinda sucks timing-wise.

    * might be the Nebraska of CBB now which always makes me laugh

Coincidentally, Indiana and UNC both opened in 2021 when Shaka left and Beard came to Texas. Of course, I would expect UNC to conduct a national search this time around instead of promoting internally.

Unfortunately for RT Sark has raised the bar pretty high in terms of our expectations of what a coach can do.

Every non-RT coach CDC has hired has raised the bar (TBD on the hires from the last calendar year, I suppose)

  4. I remember the Shaka era when there seemed like half a dozen instances where his teams reached a point of no return only to do something positive enough to keep things going. This feels like one of those moments.

If they win in Oxford, though...

lots of people in the game thread talking about “fire him at half time.” now that reality has sunk in, suddenly the “optics” of it all don’t matter so much anymore, do they? so for the “CDC had no choice” crowd, just imagine if TJO, tommy lloyd, or nate oates was on our sidelines right now while RT was stinking it up at some lower tier ACC or Big XII school. y’all still think the optics would have been some huge problem?

That's just game-threading. A midseason coaching change to an interim coach (different circumstances) is part of why we're in this situation in the first place

  6. Nahlin insinuating that Texas' penchant for rule-following could hamper their recruiting efforts if it comes to pass: https://www.on3.com/teams/texas-longhorns/news/a-macro-look-at-the-recruiting-landscape-as-it-pertains-to-texas-and-the-2026-cycle/

Texas has the chance to go back to back with the No. 1 class, however there is a major new variable to account for. Seemingly every cycle comes with a new variable to account for but we don’t always know what that is until it presents itself. Last cycle (2025), a number of kids received bags to simply publicly commit. This was independent of whatever NIL negotiations they had going on. They would accept knowing full well they weren’t going to that school. That has continued in the 2026 cycle in at least a couple of instances.

In this cycle, the variable is more public — collectives being rolled into athletic departments. I need to further investigate the intended and unintended consequences of this for Texas but we know Texas is much more likely to adhere to the letter of the law than other schools. A lot of schools won’t follow a hard cap. I’m not going to worry about that until I have reason to but it is something to be aware of. NIL has benefitted Texas specifically because of transparency. More transparency always benefits good-faith actors, especially when they’re as resource-rich as Texas.

    Update 7:09 p.m

As others have reported the name, OnTexasFootball can confirm the player in question in regards to the possible injury situation is RB CJ Baxter.

Baxter was spotted on crutches after practice and has been taken for an MRI this evening.

I urge readers to not jump to conclusion until the facts of the matter are confirmed.
