Who knows if it's true, but when I was a kid, I heard the story about Shelby finding out one of his players got 4 F's and a D on his report card. Shelby's response: Son, you're spending too much time on one subject.

Which one is Poultry Pimp?

Cannon Beach is great. Massive beach. Cool little town, easily walkable. Seems crazy you can fly into Portland in late July, 95 degree heat wave going on there, then drive a little over an hour and it's 67 in Cannon Beach. Hook 'em!

Here's a dumb/rookie question: If I am only able to get out to my garden once per week, will it just be too overrun with weeds, etc. to even bother with planting stuff? I'll have a sprinkler on a timer so water shouldn't be an issue, but I'm guessing that real gardeners are out weeding and checking on stuff just about every day. P.S. I found this growing on its own in the area I was tilling Sunday. Given how neglected this area was and these are still shooting up, maybe I should be planting some asparagus? Hook 'em!

I'm gonna try some gardenin' this spring. I am sure I will screw it up like the rest of my life but what the heck. Starting small (that's what she said). About 200 sq.ft. I weedeated the crap out of an area that has been neglected forever, then did a little hoeing. Added some compost today. Planning to plant some corn, beans, and squash in a few weeks.

Ever consider a different area of New England, since you have already been to Maine? We did a family trip up there a few years ago, and loved Maine, of course. But Burlington, Vermont, is a pretty cool college town on Lake Champlain, with a good trail for walking and biking along the lake. Only about a 3.5 hour drive from Boston, I think, through some beautiful country, and you could knock out a couple more states if your kids haven't already been there (VT and NH). I certainly love the Maine coast, though, if that's the vibe you are after. Hook 'em!

I keep seeing screenshots of comments from the Swiftee over there. That has to be one of us...

Dang, i think I'm keeping up, then realize I am several pages behind on this thread. Looks like i have a few of these.

Thanks for starting this thread. Many of the comments are reminders we often have similar goals and concerns even though we don't talk much about them with people around us because...who knows why... maybe people don't want to admit they are having issues, or they don't want to sound like they are bragging, etc. Anyway, the comments about grinding it out for awhile resonate with me. So, I'm personally trying to change my mindset on that and, in 2025, view my situation more as an opportunity to continue in a pretty dang good situation, with ability to help others along the way. Financially, I agree with others that I need to reel in expenses and prepare mentally for retired life, still a few years away. Also, I plan to sell off some assets I hardly ever use so I can invest the proceeds and reduce maintenance expenses. Keep up the great work, my fellow Surls! Happy New Year and hook 'em!
