  1. God bless the journalists who figured this out, but “This ICE attorney is an online white supremacist” has got to be the least surprising thing I’ve read today.
  2. Can’t have a depression if you fire all the economists! See also, can’t have a bird flu if you fire all the scientists! /we are so fucked
  3. We are shipping brown people to Gitmo and no one knows their names, their citizenship, or if they’ve committed any crimes. Trump’s administration is directing dismissals and prosecutions at the DOJ, and stopping payments or agency actions codified in law. He’s openly refusing to enforce laws like the TikTok ban and when ordered to stop by a court, the legal team just says “well we think this other thing gives us legal authority to keep doing it” and they just keep on doing it. He’s literally called himself a king now. That’s all to say, it’s not too alarmist to stand up and call out this fascist bullshit for what it is. Trying to cling to the idea that we need to wait for the next shoe to drop is how you boil a frog. We’re already in the damn pot
  4. Can anyone name one policy advancement in the last 4 weeks that doesn’t happen to align with exactly what Russia would want to achieve if it had control over US policy? -Crippling of government agencies to sow distrust of government within the US -blaming Zelensky for Russian invasion of independent and democratic nation -publicly capitulating to Russian terms on keeping territories -telling Europe we will not enforce their security problems -pledging to reduce our military by half -creating trade wars with our allies and China to isolate US influence -DOJ reassigned or fired those in charge of enforcing sanctions against Russian oligarchs -DOJ disbanded task force on protecting our elections from international interference Its impossible to conclude anything other than Trump has sold out our foreign policy and standing in the world and meanwhile he’s got a meme coin giving him the ability to accept limitless funds from anonymous international actors which I’m sure is a coincidence
  5. You’re likely going to have to wait until trial or for a party to leak something to YouTube (and even then, I’d take with a grain of salt, bc can be out of context or intentionally misleading) Discovery materials aren’t flashy and aren’t typically filed with the court (and therefore aren’t public.) So unless a court filing attaches something like Answers to Interrogatories or deposition excerpts to a motion, there’s not a lot of opportunity to examine “actual evidence”. There just aren’t daily/weekly public developments in a case like this. Discovery is a slow and boring process dealing with stuff like Subpoenas for documents, compromises over electronic discovery search terms, written objections, corporate designee testimony, deficiency letters, meet and confer meetings, motions to compel - and depositions themselves (oooo testimony under oath) can be 7 hours long or sometimes longer. Sometimes the most legally significant part of a depo can just be acknowledging or admitting that a document is authentic. All that to say, you can’t judge the strength of either side’s case yet - especially because I’m not sure they've started the discovery phase in the California or NY cases. And you’re likely going to have to wait a long time before anything significant happens in public
  6. Hundreds fired, and then attempts to get them to temporarily come to work to man our nuclear strike capabilities… just real genius stuff And never mind the lack of congressional authority or oversight for any of these actions. Incompetent cowards
  7. Honestly you have to figure that was already given willingly or placed in a vulnerable new computer system that happened to be hacked by Russia and China
  8. I’m currently reading this book to my daughter at night- too true
  9. We can’t expect a winning season if the team doesn’t address its inability to run the damn ball. The team needs a big improvement on both lines. Also, I think Parsons is wasted lining up as a full time DE/Edge, but that’s a separate conversation Odds of getting to the NFC Championship for the first time in 30+ years is frightfully small
  10. Trump and Putin have had untold number of secret conversations with no public transparency dating back before the election. It’s absolutely predictable that this admin hopes a peace deal will happen by way of Ukraine ceding territory to Russia, and a guarantee that Ukraine will never join NATO. I don’t think there is any way Zelenskyy will agree to either condition
  11. She read that the speech and debate clause gets her absolute immunity for defamation. The “swearing in” just more showmanship for bad faith bull shit
  12. Plaintiffs in the USAID case also moved showing employees not reinstated, etc. so I’m counting at least 2 cases where plaintiffs obtained an injunction and now have presented evidence that Trump admin isn’t complying. Will Elon and others back down before a court issues a criminal contempt ruling- or will we have the Trump admin publicly order the US marshals to fuck off. An unrelated aside, what’s the modern equivalent to dumping a ship full of tea shipments in the Boston Harbor?
  13. Any other roster spend 3x as much for offensive players compared to defense and also have both lines be average/bad? Nothing could be less shocking. It’s amazing he could be in football for 30+ years and still be clueless
  14. McConnell and the GOP had every opportunity after the failed coup attempt to bar that prick from ever holding office again but didn’t. If a president trying to violently stop Congress from certifying the election wasn’t enough for conviction by the Senate then literally nothing will be. It was the Sandy Hook moment but for impeachment. Once we let elementary school children get mowed down by assault weapons and failed to act, then we should just accept we will never do the right thing on the issue
  15. This is a full out attack on the government’s ability to do anything. Laws are words on paper- they have to be implemented and enforced by people. These attacks are intended to destroy our government’s ability to function. It’s sabotage and will be costly if not impossible to undo
  16. I will believe Elon will follow a court order when I see it. These haven’t stopped him yet
  17. This combined with the DOJ directive that they are the President’s attorneys is something I thought I’d never see in this country
  18. Counterpoint: https://www.vpm.org/news/2025-02-04/virginia-community-health-centers-close-federal-funding-grant-access
  19. Supposedly a 25 year old is writing back doors into our payment infrastructure. What could possibly go wrong
  20. 2 injunctions as to Elon’s stopping of approved funding. One applies to 22 states and the other was much broader. Neither seemed to have changed any behavior.
  21. There’s not going to be federal funding for education anymore. That’s what “leave it to the states” means
  22. the fucking Cato institute raising alarm
  23. Remember when Scooter Libby was prosecuted and convicted (and later had his sentence commuted) for leaking the identity of 1 CIA operative? I remember.
  24. You’re absolutely correct but the press has been lining up to pay Trump (personally) literal millions for the pleasure of not giving him unfavorable headlines.
