  1. I don’t disagree with your assessment for FEMA, but one of the biggest misconceptions is using Return Periods as years. The more realistic way of looking at things is that a 100 year return period event has a 1% probability of occurring in a given year. Over a long timeframe, you could have the 1% event happen in back to back years, then not occur for a long time. Obviously, the idea is to use data from events and update your models (as well as including some data from climate models to look at the sensitivities in terms of how the return periods will change). However, most of these models and flood maps should have incorporated the previous flooding events.
  2. Not really the issue for this flood. In Houston and other areas, absolutely, but in this part of Texas, you have a thin top soil over limestone that really transmits water to the creeks and rivers. Unless there are karst sinkholes or caves, water really flows as the limestone limits infiltration.
  3. Agreed, especially given how little data we have over the course of history and how those climate change models still are a bit in flux. It’s why I really hate using PMF or PMP as they imply something that isn’t really correct given how much we actually know.
  4. Except we do look at these events and a lot of the engineers who are working on evaluating these conditions are explicitly accounting for climate change and associated impacts in terms of evaluating these facilities. - an engineer who designs dams throughout the southwest.
  5. The amount of engineering that goes into stuff like this is incredible.
  6. If you are flying into Istanbul or Ankara, there shouldn’t be an issue.
  7. Guessing it may be wrong
  8. Apparently the one survivor jumped from the plane? Will be a crazy story to see what was going on.
  9. The better one is that it is P. Diddy vs R. Kelly.
  10. How was that third Panthers goal not offsides?
  11. Was reading The Athletics survey of random GMs and saw one of the more hilarious takes about the draft. They called Jahdae a one season producer, which is such a shitty take.
  12. The issue with this logic is where could he have gone that was nearly as QB friendly as what Texas had? He had multiple draft picks in every position and still struggled, whether due to injury or not. I hope he has a long career as a backup, but he was never going to live up to his billing. Still brought us back to the big leagues, so love him for that, but it’s the truth.
  13. Smith on the Jets will be fun for the Post headlines when he drops key passes
  14. Holy shit, Ewers might go before Shadeur at this rate.
  15. We need the zapruder film on the Shadeur interview.
