  1. Those activities are allowed under the order. I think it's more just unifying the recommendations from San Fran/LA to the rest of the state instead of letting it go community by community.
  2. I doubt cruise ships would be retrofitted, but it’s more a possibility of where to put patients if hospitals are flooded. Think some of the colleges that were requiring people to move out of dorms were anticipating for the situation in which the dorms would be used for patients. I’d imagine it’d be the same concept for the cruise ships. If we get to that level, though, society is completely screwed.
  3. I'm sorry, but this is complete horseshit. China is the one that was dismantling research and arresting/silencing people that were trying to wave the red flag at the start of this. They are the ones who had wet exotic markets in the middle of major metropolitan areas when we knew from SARS and the other avian flus that it was a tremendous risk. Our government's response isn't good at all, but China bears a ton of responsibility for this.
  4. From the article you posted and where those new cases are coming from: Indeed, even as Hubei’s numbers have dwindled to zero, China is facing another concern as imported cases continue to add to the country’s tally of infections. The National Health Commission reported 34 new cases for March 18, all of them patients who brought the disease from other countries. the point is that if China and South Korea are unable to deal with people bringing it back in, that means the whole world will have to essentially go under the same quarantine rules to get back to “normal.”
  5. And in completely awful news, China and South Korea are seeing a rise in their number of cases. If this holds, this may be months upon months for social distancing.
  6. Honestly, those articles are great compared to some of the twitter journal papers that we are seeing. I've been reading their articles in the morning, and they are pretty damn good in terms of actual research.
  7. On the other hand, Fauci came on Pardon My Take, and he did a pretty good job of not being so grim while being serious about it.
  8. I don’t think it’ll necessary be a death count but more whenever we have images of hospitals making wartime decisions on who gets treatment and who doesn’t ala Northern Italy.
  9. Is that per person or as a married couple?
  10. Eh, when you get these viruses, it doesn’t matter if you run all the time or not. I was consistently running half’s and whole marathons when swine flu came, and never felt sicker in my life. Had to get steroids to help with breathing. its crazy how the body reacts to these respiratory viruses and how they affect you.
  11. Pretty much if you skied last weekend, you need to quarantine. Also, the ski season is over as Vail and Loveland announced that they are closed for the season. High country is really going to be hurting both from a hospital perspective where they don’t have the resources and financially from all the business at the end of season dissipating.
  12. Austin should have done it earlier. Also, fridge/freezer died overnight. Seems like the worst possible time for this.
  13. "All models all wrong, some are useful." After reading through the paper, his overall conclusions that the US and UK need to go into a suppression instead of mitigation is correct and that's generally what we are seeing with the shutdown of bars, restaurants, etc coming down now. However, his model is definitely wonky and doesn't seem to be calibrated against China or South Korea's performance. There's a lot of smart conclusions in there in regards to policy, but the model seems off with those second peaks. I never thought I'd defend Reviewer #2, but a lot of this research that is being published to twitter instead of being checked is the reason for that reviewer being a complete jackass.
  14. I was thinking there had to be a reason why Hopkins was traded in case he was old or a bad contract, but seems like he's absolutely in his prime and his contract is extremely manageable. Not a Texans fan, but the owner should have fired BoB on the spot when he brought him that trade.
  15. Is there a defined time for another press briefing today?
  16. With Vegas and NYC shutting down, it sounds like the guidelines released tomorrow is going to be similar to NYC's ban.
  17. Thankfully they also don't get nearly the visitors that way as well. Hope she ends up okay though, I'm sure Alamosa and surrounding areas aren't as high on the food distribution/resources as other places.
  18. Sorry that is along the front range are screwing up for y’all in the high country. I think it’s going to get awful up there as y’all just don’t have the capacity.
  19. It seems like it really depends on how wide the clusters are and how dense they become. Examples of that is the #31 case in South Korea who ended up fucking over a significant amount of people by breaking quarantine. Lodi seems like it's a bit further removed from the Milan area and density as it's not quite as developed towards there, whereas it seems like there's a relatively consistent population center towards Bergamo. They are within the greater metro, but I still would think that it affects it significantly. One of the authors of the study did say they were going to address it (and it's crazy that all those cases in Bergimo came from only 2 clusters!). I didn't mean to harp on you, but it is one of those things that a reviewer would really make the authors defend.
  20. I don't want to discourage people from social distancing and these shutdowns are super important and should happen now, but Bergamo is 2.7x the size of Lodi and with a population density that is 3x that of Lodi. It's not all that surprising that they are being hit harder than Lodi, regardless of the implementation of the shutdown.
  21. Rumor going around that Colorado is going to shut down all non-essential businesses including all restaurants and bars.
  22. At this point, and after the shitshow of people being morons on St. Paddy's day, it's absolutely coming.
  23. Seriously, NYC's excuse is bullshit. Other districts are coming up with contingency plans to deliver meals or have it where people can pick up boxed lunches.
  24. Governor Polis closed all ski resorts in Colorado, essentially ending the season. That explains why Vail / Steamboat & Winter Park all closed. It definitely sucks, but it's clearly the right thing to do. People can't be trusted to not be morons and go and be disease vectors in areas without the proper health care.
