  1. TCU has the #1 SOR, so they've done more than any other team being discussed.
  2. So do we put Purdue in? Head-to-head means something more than any other single game, but I'd rather have the team in that had the better overall season, not base it on a single game.
  3. This is correct. My thinking was the title game. It's a $2MM bonus for the FF, less ~$1MM for having an extra team in a low bowl. So it is worth more or less $100k to UT itself ($1M to the conference.)
  4. CFP payout only increases by the expenses of the game itself. So it is virtually the same regardless of if TCU is in or not. It's actually a net loss because it's one less bowl payout.
  5. Ohio State has a better schedule than both even after you factor in the 13th game for each (both of which should be easy wins). There is an argument to be made for 1-loss Michigan and head-to-head mattering. There is also an argument to be made that Michigan played no one non-con (OSU played ND), and lost to a pretty bad Purdue. UGA's schedule isn't any better. Oregon doesn't make up for how bad their in-conference slate is. But sure, SEC! SEC!
  6. I don't think any of the top 4 can afford a loss. tOSU should feel good about their chances, imo.
  7. My first thought on the position change post was Liebrock or Juan to edge.
  8. I'm not sure if I'm surprised or not surprised that a TE hasn't announced yet.
  9. For people like me: Troy Omeire - wish him luck, couldn't get over the injury bug. Prince Dorbah - I'm not sure whether Dorbah or Burke logged more snaps this year, which isn't a good sign for him. JD Coffey - Jerrin Thomson practically never came off the field. I guess this is the safety we are losing to make room for ??? Andrej Karic - loved this name as a recruit but he wasn't ever good. It's fitting his last play was a strip-sack TD. Jamier Johnson - started the year as the #3 or 4 corner. It was obvious when he was on the field - in a bad way. I think he can turn into a good player, but he's below guys younger than him now. Hudson Card - not shocking at all. He looked a lot improved this season. I wish him luck. DJ Harris - Kind of surprising in the sense that he has a lot of football left to play. Dropping two edges means we are confident about getting someone from the portal?
  10. Yeah yeah. I looked at the last two pages and didn't see it. I'm apparently 4 pages behind.

What's the total number of holds across the Big 12. I've always had the impression it's just less common here.

Maybe more realistic: 2 calls in 400 snaps at 30 snaps per penalty is 1.4th percentile. Any way you look at it, it's either extremely rare/unlucky or something else.

It's not that simple because of a small-ish sample size. I think the right way to do this would be offensive/return snaps per penalty and a binomial distribution. However, even if we go really simple and conservative: say there's a 60% chance of a team getting a hold in any game. Over 9 games with only 2 called, it's below the 3rd percentile.

Holding is the most common NFL penalty. It's more frequent in the NCAA at around 3 per game, but false starts overtake holding as the most common penalty.
  15. Same. Never liked the idea, and I think he's a good coach.
  16. Mr Tumnus is out of eligibility. Prince Caspian would be a good get.

Yes. A sideways pass behind the line of scrimmage is always ruled forward and from beyond the line of scrimmage is always ruled backwards.
  18. Bijan was the year we "missed" Zach Evans and Ty Jordan.
  19. Tennessee named 12 players in their internal investigation and Huepel seems like a decent hire for the time being. We don't know the full extent of what their punishment will be yet. Pruitt's buyout was $12MM, which is about the same that we paid Herman.
  20. I think they are at the point where an internal investigation will find that one of their outbound players took illegal benefits. They'll take the infractions hit in order to get out of that contract.
  21. His Husky teams were 21-3 when favored and 12-26 when not favored. They were slightly above average at getting the upset, but very good at winning when favored. And he never had a year losing more than 1 game when favored. If you just go by Vegas he was 33-29 but should have been 24-38.
