Here's some stuff we did – part 2 (base package)
Now "base" doesn't mean most common or default anymore. It just means 4 DBs. Our default defense most of the season will be the above nickel. We rolled this out against 12 personnel, and it didn't see the much use this game.
We played a 3-4 Tite with DMO replacing the nickel and DTD playing Will. This lines up well with how we were using DMO in certain pass rush sets. Dorbah rotated in for DMO. The first time it appeared was Sweat, Murphy, Broughton up front, but the defensive line was already rotating at that point and I wouldn’t read into it. If you read anything about anything last year you can probably stop here, but part 3 is immediately following.
It’s not always a 50 front (5 on the line), DMO played like a OLB when they set twins to the field:
This one is interesting for three reasons: (1) this is likely the starting lineup, (2) we use the boundary safety to take the slot so that the Jack (Ovie) can stay on the line - this is one of the rare times we aren't two-deep, (3) we slide the formation over to the right guard to handle the overloaded front, but do this by flipping over a DE (Sweat) to the guard and sliding the Nose (Coburn) into the A-gap, which I think kind of makes sense so they can play against the same OL they've seen all game.
I didn’t really see us do anything special as far as calling. Sorry, this one is pretty lame. I've already got Part 3 drawn up, which is also pretty simple but actually new this year and something we've been missing.
