  1. valet parking only is definitely a top surly inducing thing. unless i need to park outside a crowded stadium wearing a suit, with my family, under a thunderstorm... theres basically no other scenario where the uneasiness of letting a stranger drive my car outweighs the inconvenience of me doing it myself. and then you have to pay them on top of that? pffftt
  2. As a professional mathematician, I can predict with 80% confidence that Texas will limit its first 3 opponents to -40 points in 5 years
  3. I say quarterly numbers are an issue for Samsung Electronics, because the economic interests of those numbers belong to outside parties, as do the controlling interest. If those parties don't like the numbers, they can pressure and enforce a change in company decisions. This is unlike something such as Samsung Constructions, where the major institutional and enterprise ownership are de facto aligned with the major individual holders... who are basically the descendants of the Samsung founder.
  4. Driver must be going to the optometrist
  5. Samsung's different subsidiaries are listed as separate entities. The one doing semiconductor manufacturing, Samsung Electronics, are de jure owned both in financial terms (common stock) and in controlling terms (preferred stock) by parties external to the super Chaebol. Majority of owners are outside of the country altogether.
  6. I did the loop in spring season. Weather agreeable most of the time, though at a portion was driving through heavy snowstorm (that quickly passed). Planning is simple because most everything is just off the loop, or a tiny excursion from it. And then most of that is walk/hike-up natural attractions, with only few things requiring booking or guides. One idea for itinerary building is googling movies scenes shot in Iceland. Theres a few common locations like the Glacier Lagoon. Pretty cool to watch these same movies afterwards (or new ones) and recognize the places youve been.
  7. $50 for a single pair of knipex is also, considering the function, an incredible deal, and you're free to buy as much of it as fits your conscience. i have multiple sets of them.
  8. Just a good ol' boys, Never meanin' no harm,
  9. it probably makes sense if you already use google fi as primary provider at home, and use its extension for international data for using google fi exclusively as a traveling provider, the flexible plan has base cost + data. pretend its a 1mo period using 5gb, fi is $20+$10*5gb= $70. airalo for 5gb of regional use is $20.
  10. these near-direct-to-consumer platforms reveal how insanely cheap manufacturing can be. almost magical, really. imagine you want to buy a pair of pliers: someone had to mine the ores, refine it, distribute it, it goes to a factory that stamp/cast/forge/shape it into pliers, its sanded, polished, grooves cut into it, pin affixed to it, some colored rubber sleeves applied to it, (fake) brand name etched into it. it gets packaged, shipped across the globe to your door in nebraska, with (pennies) of profits allocated to the supplier, the factory owner, the reseller, the selling online platform, the shipper, and so on... ...and it cost the consumer all of $3b. thats a fucking miracle.
  11. Think of how stupid the typical surlyhorn poster is. And that they represent a mid-aged graduate of a flagship university. Then think of how much smarter they are than the average person from the general population. And consider how dumb the bottom half of that distribution is. In a way, if not this, these people would do something else equally dumb sooner or later. Good to identify them now.
  12. Dude gets flown across the ocean and given a free blowjob and he has the temerity to complain. SMH.
  13. In the summer I would plan seeing an opera on the water in Bregenz. In Burgenland theres Oper im Steinbruch which is their version of Red Rocks. Imst in Tirol has the world's 2nd longest alpine coaster / toboggan. But there are a ton of other ones around the Alps region too. Many of the ski slopes do downhill bike rentals for thrill seekers. Places billing themselves as "sporthotel" typically have outdoor packages and facilities. Stift Engelszell near the Passau border hosts one of the few trappist breweries in the world, and the first outside of Belgium/Netherlands. Vienna has a stupid amount of free outdoor public festivals/events year round, but especially in the summer: e.g. music festivals, arts performances, wine/food celebrations, red bull sponsored activities, avp volleyball, outdoor soccer tournament projections, film projections (multiple types and events). Check Wurstelstand for the schedule. Popular local thing to do is hike around the vineyards on the foothills at the edge of the city where you can eat and dine at the taverns (Heuriger), often set outdoors. In comparison, Bratislava is pretty boring from a tourist perspective, but if you want to go there you can take the hydrofoil on the Danube and that in itself can be an attraction.
  14. Do rankings matter anymore with an expanded playoff
