  1. My immediate team of 11 people represents 10 nationalities, only 1 of whom is a native English speaker (not I!). We communicate in English though, and I don't begrudge anyone for not speaking it perfectly. I just don't see the point of guy doing all of the talking when he's understood by perhaps 5% of the audience.
  2. There's this really high ranking technical guy in the company who's got a SEVERE stutter--both dragggggggggggging words and rererepeating words. And the company keeps dragging him out to give speeches and talks to big audiences. And nobody can understand a goddamn thing he says. I'm very sympathetic to people with different accents and language abilities, but I don't understand either. It's painful for everyone to stare at him blankly for 40 minutes, unable to process anything. Sure man, the guy might be an absolute genius with a thousand patents and great technical advice, but what is the point in making people sit through this stuff? By the way, he's not a 30 year old, he's senior aged, so it's not like they're doing this as a form of exposure therapy to reform his speech; all of this has to be voluntary from him. But goddamn why?
  3. This is actually not the stupidity of my wife, but the stupidity of her employer. They ask her to go on a business trip in May. She just booked the trip. Now they go back and say please cancel the booking, and to re-book the trip in April (Q2), when it likely costs more, because they don't want to recognize the cost in Q1. Nevermind the trip is like 0.00000% of company financials and etc.
  4. Buyers probably arent pretending to be flying a war plane in the dark of night to need the legibility tho
  5. Fungibility sometimes be like that.
  6. So i had no idea about this, but apparently the value of federal gold (eg ft knox) is valued, based on old ass decree, at $40/oz. Thats about 80x below market value. Which means that the govt has almost 1 trilly in gold, instead of just 10B. Which is 3% of US Debt. So they got that going for them, which is nice.
  7. Yeah, Bessent has not been coy on his comments about the stock market. The heated bond market (as flight from equities and/or expectation of lowering rate in response to economy) is good for the treasury in reducing the cost of rolling over the debt coming due soon. And theres a gigantic mountain of it due, in part to the recent administrations issuing them as shorter maturity bills and notes.
  8. Ill sell you 5 years of capital loss rollover credits for $4000 and an xbox 360 🤔
  9. Does today mean the markets are up in the southern hemisphere?

  11. Ur gonna have to move from fremont to antioch
  12. I enjoy the dicing. It's the peeling of onions and carrots and garlic and trimming the ends and cleaning the shreds of skin and washing of the board that slowly triggers my curmudgeonliness. There's an appeal to just tossing shit together just to do the actual cooking. Hence the growth of the meal kit business.
  13. Ank earned it and deserved it. Lots of people were unhappy with the fight. I think its more that they were unhappy with the result? It was a good, tense, striking match for 4.5rds and stall grappling for 0.5rds but thats why its called mma ?
  14. This would be the neatest commuter car, but i didnt know that it was never in the US, or that honda killed it entirely https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a46104688/honda-e-ending-production/
  15. Spacer is furthermost away from you when facing the device with sideways port
  16. I really miss living next to a major airport hub. From my current residence, anywhere we need to fly are all best served by a hodgepodge of nickel- and diming- discount carriers. For leisure, for work, short haul, medium haul, doesnt matter. No full-service legacy/flagship carriers unless flying long-haul, and thats with a minimum of 1 stop for basically anywhere.
  17. I identified with this meme for a long time, until one day it dawned on me the plastic spacer thing is meant to go on bottom. Once you realize that, hit rate goes up to 90%
  18. Anyone have memorable pizzas in Rome? I wanna sample all of the top favorites but have limited time. Tried Nerone, Ai Marmi, Dar Poeta. Only one I want to revisit is Bonci (serving al taglio squares).
  19. Get rich business idea: sell sprouts that are halved with the outermost layer already peeled.
  20. Thats a good sampler. Depending on what you’ve booked and how you plan to get around, I might swap Madrid for Basque country because you’ve already got BCN for a big city. The other cities will be for regional/cultural exposure.
  21. The slightly lower weight actually does feel more comfortable for longer use, whereas the pro feels more premium and substantial. Was looking forward to the Apple Intelligence features but so far its quite garbage. Have not used anything where I can appreciate the 16’s higher horsepower, but the lower refresh thing is a constant reminder of the impression that it is slower (ie appears laggy). I’ll just keep it around for a bit because it’s a free upgrade due to corp. cycle. Then I’ll give away one or the other to family.

  23. On the ooni i do 3 things to get the bottom heat in balance with the top (at lowest setting): preheat longer; flip/rotate the stone during preheat; and cook the pie at the front of the oven away from the rear flames. It also helps to do neapolitan pies that have much thinner crust
