  1. Shaka is who he is. His 11 year body of work at VCU and Texas is thoroughly underwhelming, particularly when compared to his coaching counterparts at those schools- Penders, Barnes, Capel, Grant, and Wade. The only coach from that list who *might* not be a superior HC to Shaka is Tom Penders, but there's a real argument to be made there considering all of the talent that Shaka has had at both schools. He is not a Big XII caliber coach, and he's probably not even on the level of any school/conference that gets regular tourney bids. My hope is that this team's talent level is so high that we make a deep tourney run and some idiot AD is foolish enough to take him off our hands for us. Otherwise it'll probably be at least 2-3 more years of this clown coaching at Texas.
  2. but, but Shaka tells him he's the best shooter in the country every day!
  3. Notice how all of his highlights are from Big XII play? It's because Shaka, as he always does, refused to play his depth during the non conference schedule despite it being the weakest non-con since we joined the Big XII. Donovan's minutes during the non-con: 17 minutes vs N Colorado and Mcneese State; 15 vs Prairie View; 10 vs Providence; and then 6, 6, 4, 3, 3, 1, and 1 minutes played in the rest of the games. He played 6.6 mpg through January 20th. But then the injury bug hit, and he played more than 17 mpg from there on out. During that time he shot 35% from the field, 40% from 2P, and 27% from 3P. My gut says he wouldn't have fared so poorly if he'd actually gotten some run against that awful non-conference lineup. I dunno what it is with Shaka and wing players, but he doesn't seem to like them very much. edit: didn't mean to act like it was breaking news that he didn't get any run during the non-con, just watching that video and then looking up the actual stats really drove it home.
  4. our guards also suck at using a screen correctly. in fact our bigs often suck at running it crisply/correctly themselves. this is a constant under Shaka in several different areas- repeatedly sloppy execution of basic basketball plays/concepts, with no repercussions or corrections, as if Shaka doesn't even notice the complete lack of fundamentals. i can't count the number of times that i've watched a big set a weak-ass screen, only to see the ball handler half-assedly "take" the screen without ever even getting close to the screener, who himself is often already popping/rolling before the screening action has even been completed.
  5. i know you're not talking to me. i'm not the one who ran in here and crashed the party by needlessly berating a Texas fan who was busy celebrating the good news over some imagined slight that only exists in gsoda's head.
  6. yes, I said "GB III would be stupid to choose Texas over the G League", and I stand by the obvious sentiment behind the post. do i *actually* think that Greg Brown is stupid now? Am I like, "Man what a dumbass this kid is!" no, of course not. his parents went to UT, his family isn't hurting for money, he'll only get one chance to be a college student/kid/BMOC before becoming a full time professional, and his friends/family can watch him play here at home. I don't think anyone here doesn't get why he might want to choose Texas over the G League. Doesn't change my opinion that going pro would have been a better move. Lots of people in this thread expressed that sentiment, and I don't think that GB III choosing Texas has changed any of our minds. and i'm still completely puzzled as to why his commitment to UT supposedly requires anyone who said that to eat crow.
  7. THIS is the post that has you crying and talking about eating crow? This post? The one with all of the pos rep all over it? You're right about one thing- I really don't get it, "it" being what has you so riled up and demanding that I eat crow when you're apparently the only here with a problem with that post.
  8. can anyone not named gsoda explain wtf he's talking about? who is this moron and where did he come form?
  9. not only did I never even say any of that, you still haven't explained the part where someone needs to eat crow. do you even know what that expression means? serious question, because you really don't seem to know.
  10. Texas fans: "I hope GB III chooses to go to Texas instead of Kentucky or Auburn." Suddenly the G League gets into the mix, reportedly offering nearly half a million as a base salary, plus professional coaching and training, plus endorsement deals, plus NBA connections. Texas fans: "I still hope GB III comes to Texas, but he'd be better off going pro. GB III: "I'm going to Texas." Texas fans: "Sweet! He chose Texas!" gsoda: SO WHEN ARE YOU GUYS GONNA EAT CROW that about sum it up?
  11. yeah i still have no idea what the hell you're on about. but flame away about...whatever it is that you think has gone down.
  12. also, when we were all saying, "he should go pro", it was being reported that he was being offered a $450k base salary, when he actually ended up being offered $125k.
  13. right, because there's totally no reason to think that Shaka Smart is going to underperform with the talent he has. 🙄

  15. lol. Roy has a down year (with one of his least talented teams ever- at least when Anthony was out) and suddenly Shaka > Roy. I specifically chose Roy (and not Self, or Izzo, or Few, or Bennett, or Beard) because this is the exact type of roster that Roy Williams would take and score 83 PPG, and go 27-5 with in the regular season, and would make a real run at the Final Four with. Point being, this roster will seriously be talented enough to go to the Final Four with a coach who really knows how to optimize its strengths and mitigate its weaknesses. I am very interested to see what Shaka Smart does with it, because for the first time during his tenure at Texas he is stacked; loaded; he has the upper hand; he has a top 15-20 roster talent-wise; I know what a coach like Roy would do with this team. I'm extremely curious to see what Shaka will do with a team that absolutely should expect to be very successful.
  16. I've shown that I have zero problem eating crow when it's warranted, but I legitimately have zero clue as to why I supposedly need to eat crow re: Greg Brown. I'm just waiting for something specific to be cited so that I can address it.
  17. it took me like 4-5 watch throughs to end up liking Dave, but when it happened, he started cracking me up. same for me with Ross from Friends. I totally get why people don't like them, because I didn't like them either, for a long time. but with Dave, at some point i started appreciating how well he played his character. the episode where he wants to have a Navajo Thanksgiving, and the episode where he tried to set up Max with a gay guy (Jack Johnson 1 and 2) really had me cracking up once I appreciated who Dave is.
  18. You said a lot of stuff but the common theme was that you knew without a doubt going pro was the best move and you refused to consider it from any other angle all the while ridiculing and completely discounting other opinions. Not just you but several others also. You were just the most vocal. I don't particularly care, just found it rather fitting to point out since something coming this full circle doesn't usually happen so quickly. that's a whole lot of talk with zero receipts. I'm gonna need some receipts. because i don't recall anybody here saying anything about GB III that's worth this sort of self righteous call-out after he committed to Texas. Go ahead and link us to whatever it is that you find so egregious, and we'll go form there.
  19. I didn't say he would go pro, i said he would be stupid to pass up going pro to come play for Shaka Smart.
  20. yeah i think we were so excited that it didn't even occurred to us to take it off the tiny plate, lol.
  21. I'll say it right now: Roy Williams would win 25-30 games and go to the EE or Final Four with this roster. It's built for speed, and we may honestly have the most athletic lineup in America. Hamm, Sims, Kai Jones, Donovan Williams, and GB III is as athletic a fivesome as any team in country has, and that's not even considering that Andrew Jones was once a pretty damn athlete before cancer and chemo ravaged his body, so let's not count him all the way out of this list either. Shaka is an absolute moron if he doesn't run up and down like every game is a track meet with this team, and the days of Texas being painfully slow and low scoring *should* be a thing of the past, if only for one year. This is by far the best team Shaka Smart has ever coached. Anything less than a summarily satisfying season should result in his immediate termination. Good luck Shaka- you seriously shouldn't need it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
