  1. Just read the scouting and pay attention to the adjectives. They're paid for a reason, and despite what people may believe, get the physicals right close to 100% of the time One of these players is a tweener/project, which means limited upside given they were already highly developed coming out of Westlake. The other has elite traits that translate to the NFL level. Vasek's injury issues are likely the result of his frame just not being able to hold up at the position his skillset was best suited beyond the HS level, muscle mass doesn't change skeletal structure
  2. A true freshman that's rated #1 at his position in the country? How did Simmons do last year
  3. These guys don't really play the same position fyi. Burke/Vasek/Jackson are primarily run stoppers first, traditional 5 techs strong enough to fight off tackles/TE's to set the edge while having the ability to stand up. Moore is the true hybrid. Simmons is a pass rush specialist, but that likely changes as he gets stronger over time. Vasek really wouldn't have had much of a role this year with Jackson(if he's as good as scouting says) enrolling early and Burke still around
  4. Fans loved major because it was a cute underdog story, which they related to. Simms was 100% the better qb, and has ironically been revealed to be the better person as well post playing career
  5. This is such a biased, garbage take. Cam Newton did everything better than Vince. Everything.
  6. Because these are their returning starters WR1 WR3 RG FS They might also get back off WLB1 and CB2, aside from that everyone is gone. And they'll be starting a true sophomore at QB with 12 career pass attempts
  7. If you mean Shaw and Brevard, those were the 2 I was talking about. Shaw was a blue chip that hasn't developed well, issue could have been Mack's staff/scheme so potential may still be there. And Brevard is a 0/1 tech, so he won't be an every down player. Only other returning player is January. Bo Davis really fucked up interior DL recruiting in 2022 & 2023, amazing how Baker came in and immediately pulled the best class in the country
  8. DT/NT is the biggest question mark. Relying on 2 transfers, neither of whom were great at Purdue/UNC, will likely be a big step back from the last 3 years. The incoming freshman class will be elite down the line, but will need at least a year for S&C before being SEC ready.
  9. He's a 10.8 100 guy and could be an absolute matchup nightmare at TE. Also his frame projects more as a TE than WR imo, already weighed ~220 in high school. And there too much WR depth already between Wingo, Niblett, Moore, Butler, Lockett, Ffrench and McCutcheon. I'd be shocked if Terry didn't end up a TE or WLB ala Lefau
  10. 21st in 2015 1st in 2016 15th in 2017 with Sark running Shanahan’s playbook 10th in 2018 using his own
  11. And the Falcons were 2 yards away from beating the Eagles in the Dvisional in 2017, Sarks 1st year. Eagles blew out the Vikings in the NFC CG and went on to win the SB
  12. Looking back on it, what the fuck was Dan Quinn thinking firing Sark? If they score on the last play from the Eagles 2 yard line, they probably win the Super Bowl in Sark's 1st year as OC. And then the offense actually improved in year 2..who the hell fires an OC with a top 10 offense?
  13. Terry might be the answer at TE, but he'll need to gain 15-20 lbs in the next 8 months. Also moving away from TE and using 4 WR sets might be the plan, would make sense with how crowded the WR room is
  14. Baxter supposedly tore his LCL, if he's not ready to go 12 months later then he's just sitting out for the draft. That's not some catastrophic 12+ month recovery
  15. Dude stand up edges (Jack) are defensive ends. There’s a reason it’s called a Jack and not a weakside OLB

If he runs well, he’ll have played himself into the 1st round. His route running is off the charts
  17. I never said it was a good idea, but he has the skillset to punish the 3-4 the Eagles are using to dominate and the 4-2-5 that's the base defense for 75% of the NFL Elite athletes would never go for it, priority uno is being developed for the NFL and dos is having their skils showcased. And when you think about it, it is kind of fucked up that someone like Tommy Frazier might have had NFL RB potential, but was never developed because and pushed into being option QB instead, which was a dead end post-college
  18. The down lineman almost always included Collins, Sorrell and Broughton together. The 4th lineman would be Moore/Simmons/Burke dependent upon situation. Sometimes Moore and Simmons would be in together, but that was only on obvious passing downs. This is excluding Norton who is a 0 and only used in short yardage And a 4-2-5 can look like a 3-3-5 if it employs a weakside edge that drops into coverage, but it will get hammered by outside zone all day. FWIW I think a 3-4 that employs a bear front(2 DT at the ends and a NT over center) with hybrid backers at SAM and WIll, a standard MIKE and a combo LB/SS like Derwin James at the other ILB is the best possible scheme
  19. 5 tech-1 tech-3 tech-5 or 6i tech is common. The weakside end is frequently subbed for an edge rusher on non-short yardage downs and are sometimes subbed on obvious passing downs. But it varies by team, Texas uses a platoon approach and subs standup edges for 3 points from play to play, Ohio State on the other hand plays the same front 4 every down On the topic of the line getting it's ass kicked and how to fix it, I actually think a shift back to a more traditional pro-style offense(e.g. 2005 USC) and moving away from the spread matches up best with the current CFB defense meta. It's a bitch to implement and recruit due to complexity/the lack of high schools that run it, but Sark's ran it before, it attracts blue chips at every position, it's proven time and time again to have the fewest flaws and Manning is a great fit for it. Michigan won with it last year and if Notre Dame's secondary can hold up they'll win with it next week
  20. Noone competent runs 3-3-5 base, it's too vulnerable against the run. The alternative is a 3-4, but both schemes if done right will employee a platoon of LB/DT/Ends and sub/adjust based on opponent scheme/personnel/down and distance. And it's essentially operates as a disguised front 7 that can play as anything from a 5-2 to a dime post-snap depending on the ends/OLB responsibility(rush edge, spy, drop into zone). But the modern 3-4 typically typically runs as a bear front with a 3 tech, 0 tech, and 3 or 5 tech down, and then walks up 2 OLBs near the edge. The end result is something that looks like a 5-2, but can drop to become a 3-4 and causes chaos for the OL because which of the 4 LB's are rushing and dropping can't be determine until post-snap. But the 3-4 is extremely vulnerable to running QB's The 4-2-5 is nowhere near as vulnerable vs a mobile qb, but is not as challenging for QB reads and OL assignments and is weaker vs power. It's also much more personnel-heavy and requries 2 pass rush specialist edges like Simmons/Moore/Orogbo that can also drop/cover the flat, 2 traditional 5 tech DE that are strong enough to fight off tackles and set the edge/maintain B/C gap integrity while also being capable pass rushers(Lance Jackson/Sorrell/Burke/Vasek), 1 traditional 3 tech that's a run stopper first, but can get pressure occassionally(Collins, incoming Charles), 1 0 tech whose only job is to eat the center and both A gaps in run defense(Norton, incoming xfer from UNC, inc freshman Sharma), and a do it all DT that can play anywhere on the line and is the one making tackle for loss in run defense, getting sacks via interior pass rush an can ideally move out to D-end to play as 5 tech for bear fronts(Broughton, inc frosh Justus Terry). And that unit has no weaknesses as it can be mixed and matched to form a down 4 that's capable of defending any and all scenariors/personnel/scheme
  21. This years offense was largely residual players originally recruited for skillsets that fit an offense Sark designed for the B12 The offense shredded Bama last year because Saban tailored his 3-4 to defend Georgia, which meant leaving DB's in man on inferior X and Z receivers while the rest of the defense focused on the run and defending areas attacked with a slot/TE(Bowers and McConkey). And those same DB's had a 0% chance of holding up in man vs Mitchell and Worthy Meanwhile that same offense would have been dumpstered by Georgia, just like this year, as Kirby's 3-4 was crafted to shut down the pro-style spread run by Bama with Mac Jones and Bryce Young, which Sark recreated with Ewers Saban responded by switching to Milroe, a strong mobile QB with an elite deep ball + explosive WR capable of beating the press completely breaks Kirby's defense (see game this season and why every running QB torches Georgia), while Sark tried to make the impossible work with Ewers What's happened to Ewers is the same thing that's happened to Bryce Young. Their skillsets were great fits in certain systems, but those offenses have not only been made obsolete by Kirby, but also by new variations of the nickel that rotate dline personnel capable of exploiting both the run and pass, while incorporating hybrid LB/S like Jonah Williams who can both cover like a 5th DB and provide run support of a 3rd LB And given the nickel(4-2-5) is now overwelmingly the dominant base defense at the NFL/top collegiate levels and a strong armed mobile qb(hello Arch, but a new offense has to be installed)/power run game is the only way to counter it, the game has effectively passed Ewers by. This is also why Milroe will be a 1st rounder and Ewers is virtually undraftable
  22. You ran IZ zone last year because Texas was in the B12, meanwhile every playoff-caliber SEC and B1G team has nfl starter quality 0 and 3 techs. And you’re not running inside against them unless your interior line is all day 2 players or better, something Texas doesn’t have. Thus IZ zone is off the menu Also not sure why people are surprised at the run game struggles, the production vs Bama the 2 years prior was similar to what you saw this year vs elite run defenses. And that was with the #1 overall RBs carrying the ball Vs 2022 Bama 33 carries 79 yards 2.4 ypc Vs 2023 Bama 37 carries 105 yards 2.8 ypc
