All the people talking about Herman being an asshole and CDC seeing it and it being a factor....didn't CDC work pretty well with one massively sweaty asshole in Fort Worth for a good amount of time (and make no mistake that guy is a grade A sweaty asshole)

Wasn’t there a big push by Houston BMD to hire Herman in the first place?  On some level I could understand that - nearly all of us thought he was the next big rising star, too - but I would assume some of those people would have had a level of access to Herman during that process which might have raised red flags.

Yes we did and then he went all Charlie on us when he got here. He brought in Orlando which I hated at the time because the OU win proved nothing other than receivers were running wide open and got missed and OU beat itself. Tim Beck was a freaking joke and the only excuse left for Tom was that he would pay more attention to detail than Charlie. Well, now we all know that is crock. So what is left? Nothing other than the hope that he is relatively young and can adapt and learn from failure or that he fails big time next year and he is gone.

Jimbo's record so far at aggy is 16-9 (.640). He has played two FCS teams since taking over the aggy program. He won both games. Neither of the FCS titan programs he beat finished their season with a winning record. His five wins over teams with winning programs all happened in 2018 - Kentucky, So. Carolina, UAB, LSU, and N.C. State.

Against FBS competition, he is .560. Against SEC competition, he is .563.

Since joining the SEC, A&M is .650 overall, .571 in conference play.

In the big 12, aggy went .567 overall, and .527 in conference play.

In the SWC, aggy went .587 overall, .532 in conference play.

So they are right. They are doing better in the SEC than the BIG XII.

Well if you buy into that article Ash should be the guy.

Yea but it is clear from the article that he was targeted because he had had success in the BIG. I am on record saying Ash will be learning on the job because he comes from a BIG background. I contend we will all be very frustrated while he learns. Some folks here are saying my argument and those of others is bullshit and are making successful arguments for Ash being viable due to the following:

    a) Was a safety as a player so his first love is defending the pass

    b) His main background is coaching DBs

    c) Has a masters degree so he can't be all that stupid. (i.e. Bosworth is not his role model) - This one is mine

    d) Turned Ohio State's pass defense around in one season

    e) Was good enough for Ohio State fans to be unhappy to see him go.

    f) Was on the rise and good enough as a DC to get a head coaching position

    g) If successful he is not going anywhere soon because he has failed as a HC

    h) Recruits can be told he has won a NC as DC for Ohio State

Those on the Ash train need to give those of us not on it a few more reasons to jump on since Boom came in from the SEC and was able to adapt quickly for a time. So we are listening.

If Ash has any recruiting ability, I’m all good with him being the DC.

Ash is going to be seeing ghost like Sam Darnold when he tries to defend BIG XII offenses with the skill set he brings to the table.

  6. Here is the thing, I think Tom Herman is Dan Hawkins and needs to have his own Chris Peterson type coordinator. At Boise all the success was attributed to Dan and that is why he was hired at Colorado even though some poster on hornfans kept telling us that Chris Peterson was the reason for Boise's success. Dan got to Colorado and failed without Peterson. Peterson got to Washington and turned the program around this year not withstanding.

We are all excited about guys with good numbers even though we may not agree if it is Brady, Harrell, Cumbie, Morris or Lashlee. So personally this how I rank the options.

    Would not be upset:

Harrell - Good numbers and we know he ran the show at UNT since even though the head coach was an OC  in the past the offense sucked before Harrell got to UNT.

Cumbie - At some point he had good enough numbers to be the #1 choice by many here for our OC. We know he runs the show. Patterson is a defensive minded coach.

Popular with others but I am not sold:

Brady - He does not have enough experience running it all

    No Way Jose:

Morris - He ran a shit show at Arkansas when he was in charge. He will not help Herman run a tighter ship.

Lashlee - I think Dykes is running that show and it has been said that Malzahn had to take OC duties back because Lashlee just was not doing a good job. So his success comes from the head coach. We know Herman is not that type otherwise Tim would have been great.

    Holy hell

I didn’t notice it live but Cook’s “technique” on this play is atrocious.

That is why I put Jason Washington on my list.

Joe Burrow was an inaccurate, unfeared quarterback last year and now he's a Heisman winner and likely the first QB in the draft. While I have Graham as my preferred choice, Burrow didn't make Brady, it's the other way around.

No one is arguing that Brady did not do a great job at LSU. Those of us not sold on the guy make the point that he is inexperienced. Things worked fine under the LSU structure but here he would have to run the show. Therefore, it would be a high risk hire with a large upside but it could easily turn into a learn on the job situation that fails. Herman has shown he does not pay attention to detail. This means his coordinators would have to pay attention to all the details across all positions and their assistants. Sitting there designing a game plan and calling plays does not mean your the guy making sure everything is working like a fine tuned engine. They are two very different jobs.

that first extension was in 1926. you are either full of shit or really really old. I'm guessing it is the first and you are full of shit and don't know shit about Memorial Stadium history dantheaggy boy.

I was not alive for that one. So first extension for me which was the SEZ as it is today. I guess now I have to go back to getting rid of the track and going to grass. Bullshit like yours reminds me of grammar cops on this site when they have nothing better to say.

Can someone explain why everybody thinks UT pulling Joe Brady from LSU to be the OC is gonna be hard when Joe Brady is only a non-playcalling Passing-game coordinator/WR coach for LSU?

If we do not have an OC by signing day then it means we are going after Brady. I am not sold as everyone on Brady. He has been very good for LSU under that structure yet it does not mean that he would be just as good when he is running the show, since he has never run the show before and Texas would be the first time. Harrell would not have as much upside but would be less of a risk with a decent upside. Go ahead and be critical of my logic but I hated that many thought Orlando was great due to the Oklahoma game when the tape clearly showed OU beat themselves and receivers were running around wide open on Houston.

  11. Harrell would be a big improvement on yards per play. He did better than Texas by a lot with backup quarterbacks. Ranked #7 as far as P5 programs go as compared to #15 for Texas right now. I excluded all the group of 5 schools.

Charlie Strong is now available.  I hear he's a good position coach or coordinator.

Charlie may be a good DC but how bad would it get around here with a HC and DC that have proven they both do not pay attention to detail.

If it’s Ash I can’t believe he’s hiring another guy that just failed. Beck, Meh, and now Ash. Hrrrmph.

Guys that fail as head coaches can be great coordinators. Plenty of examples. The problem I have with Ash is not his failure as head coach, it is that every time we get a guy that is not used to defending these offenses just gets frustrated and learns on the job while we suck. They think what they used in the BIG or SEC will work without major adjustments.

  14. Never underestimate a person with the ear of someone in power. I am now afraid offensive coaches convinced Herman it was all a defensive issue and we may not see enough changes on offense. That would suck big time.

Watched the ISU game again.  Our blitzes never got home.  Their QB had the correct protection for them every time and and just found the guy in the middle of the zone or running 1 on 1 with whatever slow player didn’t blitz.  It’s just maddening to watch play after play where secondary guys telegraph blitzes from 15 yards out then run into a brick wall while receivers eat up open grass.  It’s happened against every team all the way back to game 1.  The only guy who didn’t really figure it out was Sanders but it was his 4th game and the coaches handcuffed him.  Even the WVU guy who is now benched figured it out.

Green is what we saw in that famous OU vs Houston game. OU missed wide open folks to take the lead a couple of times. When I brought up the fact that for most part Houston's defense sucked and won due to missed open reveivers I was rediculed and told Orlando was the man. Wonder how those folks now feel about the man. I wanted Aranda but Orlando has shown a few times that with proper guidence he may be OK. I just don't think that will ever happen under Herman.

  16. Herman will be just like Mackovic and when asked to go get the best he took a guy that is already here to give us the finger. Larry Fedora will be the new OC next year. That is what artogant people will do. Already set it up today by calling him a mentor.
