  1. Cbs Austin forecast and if you rewatch he says tropical storm that’s going to move slowly over the hill country and could drop tremendous amounts of rain. The future radar even shows rotation. People just flat out ignored this. Across the board. Heads need to fucking roll.
  2. 2018, over 20 feet in 24 hours.
  3. LT up 17+
  4. So you rely on Texas and local government to tell you to be vigilant? the camp knew or should have known remnants of a tropical storm was causing the rain, NWS issued watches and warnings and their camp was dangerously close to the river. That alone is enough to be extra cautious. They didn’t need the state or locals for that part, they just didn’t. And Texas and Kerr county need to do better.
  5. Those are fair points but personal responsibility first. My ass would be up watching the weather. I mean I’m in San Miguel fucking Mexico and I’m watching the centex weather. Absolutely no excuse for the camp’s failure BEFORE any blame goes to the government. They were goners around sun down last night if not sooner.
  6. It’s about time to move the tragedy / news part off the weather geek out thread too. Edit - I think that’s what you’re saying. I agree.
  7. I said both are responsible but when you have custody of kids the buck stops with you - unless you need local resources once you alert local government of your need.
  8. Are you kidding ? A flood prone river with cabins literally feet from the banks. If I owned that camp I’d take EVERY rain event seriously and I’d be up making sure those campers were safe. Government is the fail safe and should come in to help but management and ownership did NOTHING until it was too late. They didn’t wake them up, they didn’t call first responders asking for help, NOTHING.
  9. I agree. I’d say though that redundancy is most important when planning for emergency preparedness. Here’s how I see the responsibility: - camp ownership and management - buck stops there - no way they should have had those campers in bed asleep at 1-2am. - city and county leadership should know the vulnerable parts of the city and county and the moment government outlets rang the alarm bell city and county resources - as limited as they may be - needed to be activated. Get the patrol cars, fire trucks, any other vehicles out and clearing the areas. - I have no real blame for the state unless or except to the extent state representatives were mobilizing and not interacting with local leaders over night. The part about the state that pisses me off is the god almighty crap, thoughts and prayers, and if they lied about what was known and covered up negligence which I think they did.
  10. Does anybody have that news person’s rant? I went back to watch and couldn’t find it.
  11. Jesus fucking Christ. The news is a flood, dead children, leadership that can’t fucking lead from the camp management to Kerr county to the state of Texas. It’s fucking news not my team your team. all separating this part out does is keep people from confronting facts. fucking snowflakes.
  12. Kids died, politicians shit the bed. You’re damn fucking wrong. it’s germane. Kerr county, Texas and Kerrville city leaders along with camp ownership and management. It’s at the core of what’s news. Flood, death, utter incompetence. Has nothing to do with teams.
  13. Watching remotely we have enough overflow valves to be ok. We can even open our hose bibs and drain that way too. Rain at our place is heavy but normal. I think we’ve had 4-5 inches total. We’ve gone from 23,000 gallons to 36,000 and counting.
  14. I’m not in a position to take a hard look I’m in Mexico so that was an off the cuff remark but the charity part is intriguing.
  15. 100% absolutely this
  16. The question was name an informative presser held by politicians not proper responses or who is a piece of shit. Doesn’t matter yall do you.
  17. It could fill but I’m not convinced it will. The next 20 feet are a lot more voluminous and as a designated flood control lake it has 40 more feet available for fill.
  18. Rudy during 9/11 comes to mind, CA wildfires come to mind, I remember the Bastrop fire pressers being informative, that’s just off the top of my head.
  19. 18-20 inches widespread north of LT in the last 48 hours. wow. LT at 652.5 ft
  20. I 100% disagree. That close to the river literally feet away I would be up all night ANY time it rains. You leave your kids with me I go to 11 on vigilance. Sleep overs, car rides, trips, you name it. I get some of you grieve with sadness, some of us think at least the tragedy with these little girls was at least to some extent avoidable. if I had those kids I would have been up at 1am - because I’m always up for weather events. The lack of vigilance pisses me off. I’m so sad but I’m also pissed beyond belief at adults who were entrusted with these kids.
  21. LT up 13 feet…. 651. Wow.
  22. We got caught in a minor flood of the fields at camp Mabry once as kids at a jamboree. Problem was it was near freezing and so when our tent flooded frost bite became a real issue. Older scouts climbed into the troop storage trailer and locked out the younger ones. Luckily a few dads showed up with cars and trucks and let us young pups dry off and sit in the heater. I’ll never forget knocking on the trailer door and some 16 year old assholes said go away. Fuck bullies in their goat ass. I swear we sat in the car for hours trying to warm our toes up. That was like 2-3 inches I’m sure.
  23. No apology needed. I don’t have people close to me but it still hits hard and some of us cope by getting angry. I’m fucking livid at local officials and camp management. I’ll stop short of going on the rant I want to - maybe it’s my lawyer brain - but I always worry about worst case. Man I want to go off but I’m also going to stop now.
  24. You only need 4+ inches to cause flooding. It’s not like you wait until it’s 10+ inches to act especially when you are close to a creek or river. Shit I grew up watching brushy creek flood on just a few inches of rain. It doesn’t take much at all.
  25. People don’t appreciate the risk. Too many watches and warnings that don’t materialize. Waiting for the warning that’s right on top of them. Assuming since it hasn’t happen to them yet it won’t this time either. Same issue with wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, etc. better to be wrong and prepared 99 times out of 100 so that 1 time you’re safe. That’s how weather professionals approach it and we FAFO and blame them. Nah man, you prepare every time.
