  1. Damn hydromet shows 3 inches in the Llano basin already on the ground, wow.
  2. I was originally 20-25 rise. but new rain doesn't make our predictions more accurate because today's rain wasn't part of the equation, still 559 and predicting 661 means you need to work for LCRA!
  3. Buchanan watershed getting it right now. if it holds together Llano river and LBJ watershed are next, could make it's way into Travis after that. long line, horizontal across the highland lakes region. should all be runoff at this point. wow.
  4. the State apparently started the admin process to reimburse jurisdictions who rendered aid on July 2nd. That's the whole ruckus caused by the Austin Firefighters Association saying the AFD Chief should be fired. So the State WAS doing something to prepare.
  5. dang, those are some nice titties. edit - damn does this mean robert plant doesn't have titties?
  6. here are some of the top deadliest disasters... Galveston hurricane 1900 - 8-12K dead 1906 SF earthquake - 3K dead Hurricane Maria 2017 - 3k dead Central US Heatwave 1980 - 1700 dead Hurricane Katrina 2005 - 1800 dead Johnstown Flood (PA) 1889 - 2200 dead Floods only... Johnstown Flood (PA) 1889 - 2,200 dead Ohio River Flood 1937 - 385 dead Central Texas Flood 1921 - 215 dead Rapid City, SD Flood 1972 - 238 dead Big Thompson Canyon Flood, CO 1976 - 144 dead The Guadalupe River Flood of 2025 is most certainly an outlier... most recent in the top 6 (all those above plus the Guad Flood) other than this one was 1976. Pretty fucking damning given modern comms and weather predicting. makes me ragey.
  7. they can hide it and they are resilient to a point, but this kind of trauma isn't going away. as someone who suffered garden variety emotional trauma from shitbag parents during my entire childhood, it wasn't until my late 40s that I realized it impacts my every day and will never go away. I've done a lot to get better and I am not passing it on, but for example, I'm hyper, hyper vigilant and I can't sit still. I'm always worried about something, and I always feel a low grade bad when times are good. I'll die with those traits. These kids need help and they will need it for a long, long time.
  8. assuming 300 souls perish, my quick searching and chatGPT-ing suggests the following: 1. top 25-30 deadliest natural disaster in US history 2. top 3 deadliest floods in US history 3. deadliest flood in Texas history (apparently a flood in 1921 (Williamson county / CenTex) killed 215)
  9. that is unbelievably awful. I can't even imagine being woken up, told to leave, and then told those screams are from people actively dying. mother of god.
  10. you can get my boat for $70-85K. no one is selling (or buying) a 7 year old boat that was originally under $100K for $150K. it's not really depreciating at all though which is fantastic.
  11. And cost of boats and houses? 1997 first house, central Austin, $71,500. Axis 24 cost us $97,000 in 2018.
  12. You’re not wrong but it’s one good thing about teenagers. My 17 year old son is too busy for a job and so you can call it a glorified allowance but I put him on payroll and told him school, band and work, work can come third but you have plenty of time to meet all three mandatory responsibilities. He cleans our boat, makes sure it’s covered, wiped down, he’s got 2 cars and he handles all our difficult recycling too (foam, textiles, goodwill, plastic wrapping, non single stream recyclables, hazmat, electronics, batteries, etc). So on topic, our boat (and cars) always look great.
  13. The other thing I’m going to say and this is political but fuck guys and gals we can’t be partisan on this, a special session is being called for other stupid reasons but the public welfare and flash flood warning systems will take all the air, we absolutely need these fucking assholes to make real change. The good news is their people died so we have a legit shot at real, good, and lasting change. Let’s get on board and see to it that it happens.
  14. Y'all need to chill out. Snowflakes aren’t going to listen or change (DT MAGA). So it doesn’t matter. Furthermore, when “we” briskettexan a DT thread it does detract. Yeah, the state passing mystic’s license a week ago, Kerr county/kerrville minutes and more are absolutely fucking damning news and they get very little traction in DT - so what? Yelling at dumbfucks isn’t going to remove their moral cataracts. The reality is “they” politicize everything and then “we” rail on them for it and everyone is miserable. There’s no need for it. I’ll also say there are threads on DT that are safe havens for liberals, there’s a fair amount of DJT criticism on the Ukraine thread, the Elon thread is scathing at times, LA thread, Covid thread and others. so anyway, fuck the snowflakes and their feelings but cut imma some slack and you want to go full briskettexan do it in the CR it’s a fair ask.
  15. Jim Spencer’s assessment is 100% on point and it was easily known from about 9am on July 4th.
  16. Man I’ll tell ya, it’s a luxury I didn’t know anything about. Filtration is so simple. No scale, no spots, water tastes so good, rain style shower head is pushing … get this… real rain water out of the shower head. Man it’s so great. I need to get our water tested for PFAS (there’s some evidence it evaporates with water molecules) but even with a PEX plumbing system I’m confident we are well below average water supplies on PFAS. but if it tests positive on any I’ll just add an RO for added filtration under the sinks that we use for drinking water. It’s just an amazing water experience. It’s far superior to well water, that’s not even debatable. Key is the math, we did 75% of historical rainfall * roof surface area = max reliable water collection capacity, then add a proper sized tank and you’re in business.
  17. We got 4-5 inches total so up 14,000 gallons, at about 37,000 up from 23,000. That’s just above half full. We’re pretty much set at this point. We will have excess over the next 12 months even if we only get half the rains we usually get.
  18. He also said we all love pro football.
  19. Edwards aquifer up 3 feet … not surprised it isn’t more most of the water ended up in creeks rivers and lakes https://www.tpr.org/environment/2025-07-07/canyon-lake-edwards-aquifer-water-levels-jump-after-flooding?_amp=true
  20. 110 dead 160+ more missing. total deceased is going to push 300 it looks like, maybe exceed it.
  21. I just opened the thread to post this thought. Grrrr.
  22. Haha here in SMA that’s what I’m using and they are pain. Re your first post above - I’m all in on extreme physical fitness, true believer. Intense workouts are the best.
  23. I agree with this. The rants get in the way big time. I’ll admit I blew a gasket for about an hour or two mostly because I wanted my weather thread back and was told start your own thread which happened and didn’t really stop the parade of posts with dead little girls, second because FUCK dozens of little girls are DEAD and it’s clear gross leadership up and down the chain are the reason and I lost my shit. BUT THAT IS NEWS - not me losing my shit, the ABJECT FAILURE OF LEADERSHIP. I’m generally fine with opinions being censored in purely news threads BUT sometimes politics is the news because the news is about government leadership and the acts the government takes or doesn’t take. Drawing reasonable, short and rageless conclusions should be fine. As long as the news can be posted in news threads I’m good. But like he said, ain’t no one here going to change their minds. in the end what do I want? I want dead kids to stop happening. So you know what? I hope the lege and Abbott do their job in the special session. Won’t change my view they are bad for Texas but I would love if change happens and prevents me from adding to my list why they are fucktards.
  24. in many parts of Austin this time around is harder than anytime since 1986-1987. 2008-2009 was nothing really, a year or two of basically a pause but very little declines.
