One of my all time favorites books and movies is Cry, the Beloved Country” by Alan Paton.
it’s about apartheid, race relations, justice and mercy in South Africa.
my favorite quote … Reverend Msimangu speaks when talking about hating the other side ….
"I have one great fear in my heart, that one day when they are turned to loving, they will find that we are turned to hating".
Look, today I am infuriated that people are upset about thoughts and prayers and not much else. I don’t think a non elected or unappointed political ideologue deserves this attention, he’s not a public servant, a victim of gun violence deserves the attention, sure but in my view for the purpose of real change. I find the hypocrisy so mind blowing I can’t even speak.
HOWEVER, I will not turn on my values. The truth is the truth. The right thing to do is the right thing to do. Forgiveness and apologies are the currency of love. I am motivated by kindness, compassion, love and reverence for all living things that inhabit the earth. This guy is one of them, and so were the kids in Uvalde and the queers at Pulse night club. We all deserve change. We all deserve to be free from this fucking nonsense. ALL of us, and I will not close my heart down to what is the right thing because the other side is too far gone or change isn’t happening or isn’t happening fast enough.
