  1. The thing about gitmo … man …. That shit way back when started it, I’m not changing the narrative Trump is an authoritarian nightmare but we never should have detained humans without due process, ever.
  2. Most are saying this is the case. Truly the only way to stop him is mass public protest.
  3. He may get some around the edges action around the border and immigration but he’s not going to orchestrate a violent coup. It’s not really our style. He’s orchestrating a lazy coup, no violence required, courts will punt to congress, congress will do nothing, and that’s that. He does what he wants for 4 years.
  4. The constitutional crisis began day 1 question now is whether the people will force congress to remove him. And that is so unlikely there’s no real point to asking when, only if.
  5. pretty much. and mexico in the right places is a top 10 gay enclave. live like queens (homes we are looking at are probably at an 80% discount to similar styles and similar US locations (overlooking the pacific ocean or mountain homes), retire 10 years earlier, die leaving wealth to my kids. mexico is actually a ridiculously great option for anyone looking to retire early and escape the politics here. plus my identity (and IDs) will always be under threat here. I can wash my legal identity right now through the system in Mexico and always have my "F" identity. so yeah, Mexico is a FANTASTIC option.
  6. I agree congress is a joke but impeachment and conviction is the only option that will be given when the Supreme Court rules this is a political question not a legal one. we have 200 years of court rulings that tell us exactly how this will go. To expect different is insane.
  7. they haven't folded because their constituents worship Trump too. there is a path, an unlikely path, but a path nonetheless to removing him. this is coming from someone actively looking to leave the country (hoping we can make it 3-4 years).
  8. If republicans are forced by an avalanche of protests and constituents they will do it - but only if they think their power is truly in question.
  9. Yeah I was waiting for someone to reply like this. It’s nothing compared to what it’s going to be.
  10. I'm between you and brisket. I think SCOTUS will absolutely call it a political question and punt in a scathing opinion - one for the ages actually - hoping Congress does the dirty work. I think the opinion will be 7-2 or possibly 9-0 and will be the invitation, even the request that Congress impeach and convict (alito and Thomas will not participate in the majority if Roberts goes too far). then the question is how far does Trump have to go before Congress actually does its job and impeaches and convicts him. I think if that happens, he will be ousted. I'm not sure what mechanism will force him out, but I believe there will be an executive revolt against him at that time. secret service might arrest him. you wouldn't need the FBI and certainly wouldn't need the military. I do not think he will successfully orchestrate an armed coup, his coup is entirely dependent upon no one doing a damn thing about it - and that starts and ends with Congress. so until you see Congress grow a pair, there's no chance. none, not one iolta of a chance. zilch, nada, nothing.
  11. you are correct, though in theory and possibly in practice, Congress and the rest of the government has a chance at each violation to do the right thing. we have to hope that at some point it goes too far for even swarmy Cruz. I know, I need to forgetaboutit.
  12. and their coming up our ass too as we alienate mexico and other latin american countries. I bet Trump has no idea what the Monroe Doctrine is and its impact on our side of the world. This asshole is gonna let these motherfuckers Red Dawn our asses straight up the butthole. if Trump get his way, geopolitics in the mid east will be the least of our worry, these mother fuckers will be crawling all over central and south american doing economic development to gain influence.
  13. as a fellow lawyer, I want to believe. but let's just for a minute believe. First, who is going to enforce these rulings - truly? The executive branch is not going to enforce a ruling it does not want to follow - especially given the swift and decisive removal of anyone that is not loyal. The removal of J6 prosecutors, the offer to quit with a buyout, and all of their personnel moves are as much about removing dissidents and installing loyalists as it is about shrinking government. So you have to believe the executive branch will lack the power to enforce the ruling against Trump. Beyond that, there's nothing unconstitutional with being merely negligent in the administration of the executive. I think if funding can't stop the way Trump wanted, they will decapitate agencies by firing or putting agency leaders on leave (already doing this) and the agencies will spiral with no leadership and therefore cease to function properly, an end around on the rulings regarding funding and now the agency is simply inept. The only way out is political - there are only two ways this can happen - Congress grows a pair and impeaches and convicts, or in a two step electoral process (midterms and 2028 presidential election). sweeping the mid terms will only prevent harmful legislation it won't stop the executive train wreck. 2028 will undoubtedly go to the Democrats - possibly in the first real landslide in the current era but will it be too late? the executive and the constituent agencies in the executive will likely be eviscerated by then. So that brings us back full circle... will SCOTUS really rule against Trump? I honestly don't think so. They should, but the easy out is to say it's a "political question" and leave it to Congress to impeach and convict. You might even have Roberts author the opinion with a scathing rebuke of Trump and yet SCOTUS will still punt to Congress for the political solution. We are so fucked right now, it's not sad, it's not even funny. It's just devastating for everyone, including those that don't know it.
  14. PV has 35,000 expats and has an entire "neighborhood" Zona Romantica that is nearly 100% LGBTQ occupied. folks that live in austin, you'd be able to trade up to a nice ocean view condo in most cases - assuming you aren't mortgaged up all the way on your equity. it's hot and humid 5 months out of the year but 7 months are sublime. cartel is around everywhere but don't do drugs, don't sell drugs, don't bad mouth the cartel, don't drink in public to excess, go home at a reasonable hour and don't flash wealth and you're gonna be fine. basically it's no different than asking someone, "why in the fuck would you hang on on dirty sixth at 1am?" or "you want to eat a taco stand on east rutland at 10pm because why?"... follow the normal rules you'll be fine.
  15. they won't change in a way that eliminates the penny. cooter has the answer though. we'll see...
  16. Can’t remember which thread but someone and I were talking about counting calories… I just threw half a bag of frozen okra in the oven for lunch, for a second was worried about calories. Total calories in a 2.5 lb bag of sliced okra (unbreaded)…. 420 calories … 40 ounces of okra… it’s impossible to over eat a vegetable and fruit based diet unless you add the bad stuff to it. I’ll be stuffed on 210 calories plus another 120 of olive oil. 330 calories and satiated completely.
  17. All reasons why I’m dying to visit but know it’s not a legit place to live even part time
  18. The survival guide was written a long time ago - when persecution intensifies, find a real community of gays and queers and concentrate together in beautiful places. Our elders never had the freedoms we had for a brief minute so they never ventured out as much from those gayborhoods. Now the middle aged generations are going to flock back (SMA and PV are those places in Mexico, but there are plenty places in the US too). Not sure what the youngest generations will do, they didn’t grow up with that strategy. I didn’t grow up with that strategy either but I’m listening to my wife who does not speak loudly. When she says we may have to leave the country, I’m listening. straights who end up in these communities love it too. There’s no better YOLO community than the gays with some disposable income.
  19. You can also grab this cook book for wok cooking… the recipe above and the one in this cookbook will definitely increase your chances of getting laid. Bonus points in this book for how to prepare the meat to be velvety soft and tender. This guy will totally up your wok game to surly top 1%.
  20. Read the rest of the recipe. He adds chiles at the end and says if you want it hotter make it hotter.
  21. Grounded teenagers and an old worn out tooth brush, duh.
  22. They don’t seem to be nearly as far along as the US on anti-LGBTQ issues. As for the politics generally, I’ll be happy to say not my circus not my monkeys about their government. But your point about where other countries are is telling. Outside of Northern Europe, Costa Rica, New Zealand, and probably some South Pacific islands, only two of which are a legit option (Northern Europe isn’t really bc of sunlight leaving only Costa Rica), where’s one to turn? The whole world is burning and the free world has a flesh eating virus right now.
  23. For that heat we require the water. My ex has been to Merida says it was ok, Oaxaca is much better food scene. And at this point puerto Escondido sounds awesome - but probably only for a visit. SMA and PV have vibrant gay communities so they rise high on our list (PV apart time and SMA during the PV hit season). The climate in SMA is going to be great we think, and the home we are staying in is just incredible looking.
