  1. Not really; I'm just being charitable. Some readers will look at the juxtaposition and see no difference, except that the second version of the tenets makes explicit what (to them) is obfuscated in your version. Others will have more charitable reads, recognize legitimate variations within academia and so on. But if we collapse CRT into just the second set of tenets, it isn't hard to see the connection between certain tenets and the bad examples that run rampant in DEI and anti-racism efforts and the post-Protestant, performative liturgy of pop culture Wokists. It's a damn shame because some of the tenets, in either version, are interesting, albeit not as useful as other mental models. Discussion of CRT in groups is pointless; it is Covington scissors all the way down.
  2. There are different CRT frameworks. PSU Education Professor Uju Anya posted one on Twitter recently. This may be more telling since she an education professor who publishes in the CRT area.
  3. There are a couple of reasons to put Cheers ahead of Seinfeld: 1) It repeatedly, and successfully, dealt with cast changes. 2) It was good from the beginning. The best reason to put Seinfeld ahead of Cheers is that it was better, maybe much better, for longer.
  4. The show's good enough that I binged the entire season over a couple of days. I'm not a comic fan, so it is hard for me to articulate the problems that seem pretty obvious. This article explains the issue from the viewpoint of a fan of the comic. It's like someone heard a cool story and then tried to relate it back to a third party while in a psychiatric drug-induced haze, overemphasizing all the wrong elements.
  5. As satires go, the first season was pretty weak. Doesn't seem like anyone fully committed to their satirical role other than Seth Rogen.
  6. My sincerest condolences for your loss.
  7. Post-vaccine I get to see people I haven’t seen in awhile. Haven’t changed my life much except now I don’t even bother with a mask most places.
  8. It wasn't that bad. The Crosshair part of the episode was decent and answers the question of whether this is going to be a kids' show or more YA like Clone Wars. I could be wrong, but I'll call it: There is no redemptive arc for Crosshair. His brutality lives on in the regular storm troopers in Rebels, Ep 4, etc. There is no need for a push away from the clones. Their lives are too short and the Kaminoans' capacity for cloning presents a threat that will need to be wiped out.
  9. Almost seems like the state of Ohio was prepared and scrubbed stuff ahead of time.
  10. Lily is 32 now, which is the same as Pam in 1999 when she was with Tommy Lee. Might give the edge to young Pam, but not 32 year-old Pam. A lot of it comes down to whose face do you prefer and whether the bolt-ons detract or add to her appeal.
  11. I was wrong. I went back and looked at the Seinfeld episode list. Based on my feelings at the time, it peaked at season 8. It's just the last year that was not as good.
  12. The last two seasons of Seinfeld are a lot like the fifth season of Babylon 5. It was still good, but the edge was gone.
  13. Double post
  14. Yeah, but Fleabag would have shown her licking Jerry’s jock, with him in it, on screen. Two completely different shows from two different eras and two somewhat similar nations. I’m not saying Fleabag was better than Seinfeld overall, but rather that its two-season run did exactly what Seinfeld purported, but failed, to do. Sure, Seinfeld could have run for a few more mediocre seasons, but did anyone have the sense that there was anything left for the show? Contrast that with Fleabag, where the audience is left wanting more.
  15. Fleabag actually did what Seinfeld purported to do: Go out on top. Seinfeld had been coasting for a year or two before the end, maybe not for ratings, but definitely in terms of content. It wasn't as egregious as some sitcoms, (Modern Family or even Parks & Rec), but there was a downward trend.
  16. Sam Malone, no question, both in terms of quantity and quality. The joke with Dan Fielding was that he was pathetic. Yeah, he'd get some, but they were usually bored and ready to ditch him.
  17. I don't have a problem with the top 10, just not in that order. Both Seinfeld and Cheers have very strong claims to the top spot. Don't think Sex and the City belongs on the list. Not sure about the rankings of Scrubs and Murphy Brown. Shocked at the lack of Married With Children, Family Guy, etc.

    The Wire

I would play the hell out of that.
  19. I’d imagine it starts with him being busted down to night court DA after a sex scandal. Harry’s “daughter”, (Rauch), takes on his role as the night court judge. Would love to see Brent Spiner as a regular.
  20. The movie was alright when I saw it as a teenager. Definitely enjoyed Harrison Ford playing against type in the movie and wish he'd have done it more often. Tried to read the book about a decade ago and didn't make it past the first chapter or two. It's still sitting on my bookshelf. That has more to do with not being instantly hooked than anything else. Haven't even bothered to watch the trailer, but might give it a shot.
  21. Hard to look at? Interesting. Now I like redheads like Vic likes fat women, but it took a few eps for her looks to grow on me. She’s always striking in looks, but it takes a bit to see her as attractive.
  22. The cast of the Clone Wars was too large and unwieldy. It stretched the series out. Caused it to lose focus at times. It's no surprise that some people don't like it.
  23. Groomed and then abused for 2-3 years, which sent him running to both the school and the police.
  24. What, you don’t want this to end up as the Adventures of the SS Bubba Bucky? Where Buck and Falcon ply the seas, trawling their nets, bonding, and fighting crime?
  25. There were two Clone Wars "series". There's the famous one that just ended, but there is a lesser known one that appeared as 5-minute shorts on Cartoon Network between the theatrical releases of Episodes 2 and 3 that bridges the gap. workswithweed is talking about the lesser known series.
